we won't know his progress until the bullets fly. Nothing that has happened off the field is any indication that he hasn't grown or he isn't in it for the team or he's not looking to progress as a WR. My only concern for him is that he loses it during the heat of the battle sometimes and it's something he is aware of and trying to fix.
show up the next time your team is in the playoffs
This is the answer.
See the problem is Beckham wants to do things his way at all times, and then not get criticized for anything he does.
Tough shit. Life doesn't work that way. Feel free to do whatever you gotta do but don't bitch when people question your actions. Either tow a neat line and blend into the scenery and drop passes in the playoffs, and the media will give you a free pass or go on boat trips and drop passes in the playoffs and the media will chew you up and spit you out.
Beckham's numbers may dip this year if only because of the improved passing options around him (Marshall, Engram, presumably improved Shepard, Vereen). How will he take that?
Even the people here that like him seem to freely admit that he is interested in being the best receiver he can be - not necessarily the best teammate. Is he the kind of guy that would be happy with 1000 yards and 8 TDs, and going an entire game or two as a decoy while his teammates get the lion's share of the targets?
Wherever you fall on him, I think it's a fair question.

He's repeatedly stated how much his team and teammates mean to him. I think as long as they're winning, he may not care about his stats. Of course, I wouldn't be a bit surprised if there's some moaning and groaning as well even if they're winning. But if the team is losing... AND he's not getting his stats, I almost expect him to complain about not getting the ball enough... as many of the past greats have done before him.

Can you stop with that shit already? All of you..Moss, Rice, Harrison, Carter, Owens et al have all had shitty playoff performances at one time or another..

When has he bitched about his actions being questioned? I've found his responses to media criticism to be remarkably measured, especially for a person to whom, at this point, they've basically given the permanent middle name, "immature". Did he double down on anything, snap at a reporter or get overly defensive when answering the media's questions this week? I musta missed that.
In college he was best friends with Landry and they constantly pushed and rooted for success for each other. In the NFL, he's been close to his fellow WR's every year and when they perform, he's the first one to celebrate with them. He's on record talking up Shep and Engram and he's recently taken Engram out to help him wiht the adjustment into the NFL. I'm just not sure how it can be questioned. Has any teammate ever said a bad word about him as a teammate?

You gonna beat this drum all offseason? We get it, the guy dropped a couple of passes in sub freezing temps. It happens. The guy isn't going to be perfect every game. The guy could prepare diligently and skip every off the field fun time activity known to man and he could still drop a few passes the next week.
It's like some of you need an excuse to bash a player and if any type of specific weakness is exposed you rail on and on about it.
He had a bad game. He's not allowed to say that he wants to play well? You're gonna shit all over him every time he opens his mouth?

There have been games where beckham's numbers were quiet and the team won. When pressed on it, and he was pressed, he repeatedly said all the right things. This has happened before and more than once. He's given no indications at all that winning takes a back seat to individuals stats.
Really, if you have paid attention to beckham's body language through his first 3 seasons the one thing the guy can't tolerate is losing. The reason why he was ready to go postal in that ravens game was they could not afford to lose that game. My impressions of Beckham are he's an insane conpetitor. The guy wants to win more than anything. Crazy theory I know.
Seriously, go watch grass grow in the fucking Euro champions friendly wtf tournament league and root for the diving divas that rip their shirts off and pose with selfie stick shots for 30 seconds after they score a goal. And then pose some more. Then a little more.
Oh wait that's not selfish or diva like or me first behavior am I right? Fuck outta here already.
Two excellent posts, completely agree with you on both of them. The one thing that stands out with OBJ is that he is a fucking insane competitor who hates losing.
He's the most exciting player in the league and half you guys just want to sit here and bitch about him missing a damn breakfast.
And to his immense credit he has worked very hard on maximizing that physical gift.
But could I not argue that the guys that went to OTAs and Eli's passing camp hate losing more?
It takes more than just talent to win a Super Bowl.
How many of those guys are paying out of pocket to work with a special trainer? If an NBA player skipped out on some first day stuff, to work out at Hakeem's big man camp, I wouldn't kill the guy for it.
I don't know, in part I'm sure because not everyone advertises with Beckham's enthusiasm.
I do know how many of them possibly do it in lieu of working with teammates at the OTAs, though.
I do, as someone who isn't a moron, resent being told that Beckham's unquenchable competitive fire dwarfs those of his peers, when he can't even be troubled to join them at OTAs. As has been brought up before, maybe he didn't need OTAs, but maybe some of his teammates would have benefited from him being there. He preferred to work on his own instead of with his team.
Feel however you want about the guy, but surely you can understand why I would roll my eyes at claims that he is so much more competitive than his peers. It's a silly statement to make.

I think if they're losing games and he's not getting touches, we'll see the bad side of this. But if the team is playing well and they're winning - he's smart enough to know to keep his mouth shut (even though he might be pissed off anyways, which is a serious possibility).

almost as pathetic as thinking these voluntary OTAs will have any bearing on his 2017 season
He's the most exciting player in the league and half you guys just want to sit here and bitch about him missing a damn breakfast.
You think every player in the NFL is equally competitive? You think they all care about winning the exact same amount?
What do you think makes OBJ such a great player? He's not the fastest WR, not the biggest, not the most experienced?
I'd argue it's his incredible desire to win and be great (combined with tremendous physical ability) that makes him so much better than his peers.
But could I not argue that the guys that went to OTAs and Eli's passing camp hate losing more?
