(CNN) How your spuds are cooked is key to your health. People who eat fried potatoes two or more times a week double their risk of an early death compared to those who avoid them, a recent study published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition found. |
I am hopeful that eating a good diet and exercising 3-4-5 days a week holds off the grim reaper because I eat too many chips.
This. In the CNN story:
They're not even looking at whether eating fried potatoes causes early death. They're just observing that people who eat fried potatoes two or more times a week die young more often. It doesn't even try to say why they die young more often. You could probably get a similar result with lots of other foodstuffs that people making healthy dietary choices tend to avoid.
Lung cancer rates are way higher for people who carry lighters vs. those that dont. You dont hear about it more because Big Butane owns all the politicians.
Ehh, this headline is going to save more lives than you think. Basically, by raising and reinforcing awareness. You'd be surprised how effective it is (if you dont believe me, ask yourself why Coke runs so many adds with ice skating bears).
Really? Now you tell me!
Not necessarily...

People who eat fried potatoes that often are more likely eating other crap and not working out either. It's not fried potatoes, they are ONE thing a person does wrong that is cherry picked by this particular study.
This. In the CNN story:

The study is observational, meaning the researchers simply tracked the behavior of a group of people and found an association between one behavior -- eating fried potatoes -- and another factor -- early death. Because it is an observational study, Veronese and his co-authors note it cannot be said that eating fried potatoes directly causes an early mortality -- it would require more research to draw such a firm conclusion.

The researchers also conveniently left out the fact that all of the study subjects died in falls...falls precipitated by slipping on a mess of fried potatoes.
How about a study to tell us which is better for you with a good burger - french fries or onion rings. Now that would be helpful.
And no water either - ( New Window )
Here's the latest photo of them. They do seem to be enjoying themselves.
If it's green, it's trouble. If it's fried, order double.

This. I can take or leave french fries, but good onion rings ... mmm.
