Graziano ESPN: How the 2014 draft class could reshape NFL contracts
"Odell Beckham Jr., New York Giants
This wide receiver class also includes Tampa Bay's Mike Evans, Jacksonville's Allen Robinson, Miami's Jarvis Landry, Carolina's Kelvin Benjamin, Green Bay's Davante Adamsand, of course, Watkins in Buffalo. It was a big year for wide receivers. Beckham is the most accomplished of the lot and would do well to see where the deals for Landry, Evans, Adams, Robinson and 2013 Texans first-rounder DeAndre Hopkins come in before doing his deal.
Along with Hopkins -- who is currently scheduled to play out the 2017 season on his one-year, $7.915 million team option -- Landry, Adams, Robinson and Watkins are the 2014 receivers most likely to get big deals soon. That's because Landry, Adams and Robinson all were drafted after the first round and therefore aren't subject to the fifth-year option, and Watkins had his declined by the Bills. If one or more of those guys gets to the open market next March, and if Evans cashes in, Beckham could become a $20 million-per-year wide receiver once it's time for him to get his second contract.
One thing to watch here, though, is the Beckham/Evans dynamic. Because fifth-year option prices for top-10 picks are calculated differently than they are for picks 11 through 32, Evans (the No. 7 overall selection in 2014) has an option salary of $13.258 million, significantly more than the $8.459 million Beckham (No. 12 overall pick) is due in 2018. That could create more urgency for Tampa to do Evans' deal sooner than the Giants have to do Beckham's, and it helps Evans because he's starting from a higher level in his negotiations than Beckham."
"Weston Richburg, New York Giants
A bit underappreciated after three years as a starting offensive lineman and two as Eli Manning's center, Richburg is in line for an extension. He was a second-round pick, so he does not have a 2018 option. The Giants also have yet to extend 2013 first-rounder Justin Pugh, their starting left guard, and it's possible one of these negotiations impacts the other. Regardless, Richburg should expect a nice raise from the $1.085 million he's making in 2017, the final year of his rookie contract."

Detiller Houma Today: Tom Fears -- the first Saints coach
"One move Rozelle tried to use some influence on was strongly suggesting the team use the first overall pick in the 1967 draft on Florida quarterback Steve Spurrier.
“The NFL merger had just sort of set in between the AFL and the NFL,” Fears said. “Pete Rozelle suggested a few times for us to draft Florida quarterback Steve Spurrier. He was a Southerner who had a great career for the Gators and had just won the Heisman Trophy. But we were looking to get a veteran quarterback instead. We tried to trade for Fran Tarkenton. Jim Finks, then the general manager of the Minnesota Vikings, spoke to us and every time we made an offer he would raise the price in getting Tarkenton. I strongly believe Rozelle influenced the New York Giants to deal for Tarkenton because the AFL team in New York had a star quarterback in Joe Namath. If we decided to draft Spurrier, then Tarkenton goes to New York and the Vikings trade with the Baltimore Colts for Gary Cuozzo. Gary looked great in Baltimore when he subbed for Johnny Unitas, but he was playing behind one of the best offensive lines in the game and he had John Mackey at tight end and Raymond Berry to catch passes. I knew he would have trouble behind a makeshift offensive line, but Bedford Wynn, who was a stockholder in the Dallas Cowboys and good friends with both Pete Rozelle and Mecom, convinced John Mecom for us to trade for Cuozzo. It was clear that Billy Kilmer was our guy at quarterback and we dealt Cuozzo in 1968 to Finks and Minnesota for two first round picks.”

Kratch NJ.com: Giants roster countdown, No. 56: Can Valentino Blake be reliable 4th cornerback?
http://www.nj.com/giants/index.ssf/2017/07/giants_roster_countdown_no_56_can_valentino_blake.html
I automatically assumed if we kept four it would be Rhett Ellison, Evan Engram, Will Tye and Jerell Adams. I found out that Will Tye maybe doesn't work as hard as he should and to me that is just plain old stupid behavior for a young guy!
I figured LaCosse would spend a year on the PS, healthy, learning and would be called up if, god forbid, injuries hit.
Now I think it is Tye on the chopping block. And if we keep 3 TE's, it will be a healthy LaCosse to the PS.
As for the article on most improved player, BJ Goodson sounds like a good pick. He got some good pub by the staff and even was showing well in nickel defense as I understand it. We have some good competition this camp and potential with youngsters improving.
Go Giants!
And I doubt we could trade Tye for any value or any player of need either which is a shame.
If both of them have solid seasons as I predict (well, hope for...) they will get big paydays from someone. Personally, I'm hoping B. Jones, the Canadian, shows well as I believe we control his rights through next season. If we lose Pugh and Richburg to big money deals we can get some compensatory picks. I think next year we have a little cap hell to deal with so nothing is settled.
That is why I think 2017 is our year to make a run and win a SB, Eli's 3rd. Before all of our big contracts catch up with us.
Richburg's rookie season he played LG, a position he hadn't played except for a couple of games as a freshman in college. No surprise he struggled.
The next year he was moved to Center, his natural position, and he was outstanding.
Last year he tore ligaments in his snapping hand very early in the season and that affected his game, and although he was not as good as the year prior, he was still pretty good and didn't miss one game.
Bottom line: He's a keeper.
Biggest year of their lives and I hope they come thru.
Biggest year of their lives and I hope they come thru.
Did you miss the part about Richburg playing LG as a rookie? Did you miss the part about his injured hand last year? You make it sound like he had three sub-par years at Center, which is not the case. If you buy what PFF is selling (and I'm not sure that I do, but still), he was their highest-graded Center in 2015. Last year, he was their highest-graded pass-blocking Center.
Also, Richburg hardly needs to back up any talk since you rarely, if ever, hear him sound off like Pugh. He's a relatively quiet guy who should have gone to the Pro Bowl in 2015 - he was that good.
It will be a 1 year prove it deal if that happens.
Just my opinion, we can agree to disagree, no big deal.

Just my opinion, we can agree to disagree, no big deal.
Too bad the Giants didn't have your wisdom and put J.D. Walton at LG instead of Richburg. And it's two good years playing Center, not one. Outstanding in his second year, pretty damned good in his third. His body of work already speaks for itself, and I have no doubt the Giants will make every effort to keep him, no matter what the cost.
Pugh snap % by year:
2016 - 64.6 %
2015 - 86.8 %
2014 - 80.7 %
2013 - 100.0 %
That's a lot of missed snaps you can expect per year for a guy looking for 10+ mill per and retweeting and calling out guys for making that. Richburg calls guys out, but he doesn't go into the media talking about money. I'd much rather a guy using the media to motivate for the game than motivate for his pocketbook.
I'd franchize him before I sign him long term.
I'd prioritize Richburg.
Just don't see him getting a big payday without a big year. didn't think it was that controversial. if he struggles again it will be 3 out of 4
