I called them and had them cancel the ST as this past month's billing cautioned that the 1st of the 6 payments will be billed next month. I'm so tired of their shitty service as their service is constantly interrupted by afternoon/evening storms. By cancelling the ticket, their service offers no tangible benefit to me and provides the motivation to cancel the service all together.
LOL, I canceled DirecTV completely and replaced it with FiOS.
I now coach my kid's youth hockey team and I was never home for the games and half were on national TV.
Just wasn't worth it to me anymore and DTV service is more expensive than FiOS.
I do miss it though on those rare Sundays when I'm home. Not going to lie, but was never as good as Mook in negotiating. and I had 5 TV's all with genies and DVR's and HD the premium programming package, etc. I want to say my bill was around $200 per month at least. It's less than that now with FiOS and I have internet and phone with them (phone because I work from home and have a landline).
anyway, good luck with your negotiations.
I love on this thread when people post their results and for half of you it sounds like DirecTV winds up paying you to be a customer.
but if I ever had to cancel I'd make sure to keep my $99/yr GamePass from NFL - which gives me all the games as soon as they're over and includes the All-22 and condensed versions of all games. I like watching 3-4 games of our upcoming opponents the week we play them in about 2 hours. Gives me a better sense of the league and the matchup. I also enjoy going back and watching the old games from previous seasons and all the old super bowls during the offseason. Worth every penny of the cost to me.
It was very easy for me to get a decent deal this year. I'm a 5 year customer who spends a lot of money with DTV in terms of overall package and always get NBA League Pass and Sunday Ticket. Last year I paid half price for ST-MAX (Around $175).
When I called last week I asked for retention right away and told the woman on the phone that I have a few friends who have been customers for a couple years who either got ST for free or half price this year. She kept me on hold for almost 30 minutes and got back saying she could offer me 6 payments of $35 to which I was almost ok with but as I asked to make sure that included the ST Max she said hold on and put me on hold another 10 mins. When she got back she offered me ST-Max for $89 total so I went with it.
I'm sure some of you can do better but considering I have $42 in monthly credits for DTV just based on having my AT&T cell plan and the on top of it another $30 or so in monthly credits I figure I'm not gonna do much better.
streaming all games this year also? I thought I heard that announcement a month ago. I have had DirecTV and the Ticket for the past 3 years (I live in Packerland), but I might drop it if I can stream games for free.

people who openly try and get it for free. When Direct Tv goes out of business look in the mirror
Yeah, they're going to go out of business because some people get sunday ticket from them for free. Never mind that ATT just paid a huge amount of money to buy them, they were definitely about to go under because of people like us if ATT didn't come in with a huge offer.
for MLB extra innings every year, NBA league pass every year, and NHL Center Ice every year, but they're going to go under because they give me sunday ticket for free every year on top of other discounts.
They would certainly be better off if I canceled my account and didn't pay them 200 a month for their service because they give me sunday ticket for free
I stream all sports I need. Everything is available if you look
I do this as well, but I honestly don't feel comfortable doing it. I don't want a free lunch. I just want them to make my lunch the way I want it to be made. Allow me stream it online for a monthly fee. I'd gladly pay $20 a month to do this complete with blackouts.
DirecTV will go out of business because the market is changing. People my age don't even watch the free channels on TV anymore. Bitch and moan at my generation all you want, but attitudes in your own generation killed off other industries.

Mook - have you done your retention call on Sunday ticket for this year yet? Or is this better left to do in August?

I always wait until august. My monthly credits expire in august every year and i call usually 2nd week of august. When I do call I will post what I got on here as I usually do

Also, you get the NFL app and games free for Verizon so I can just cast them to my TV.
I am switching to DirecTV streaming and I'll try to get it for free.
Wtf? No one forces them to give anything away. Giving away Sunday ticket to loyal customers isnt going to be what brings directv down.
Contract expires this month...lowered my bill about $45 and got HBO free as well. Not baf
Seriously?
Maybe you should call DirecTV and offer to pay more than the list price so you can help make sure they don't go out of business.
For every person who gets it free, if they get one volunteer like you to pay more maybe it can help save AT&T from going under.
LOL. Or....Directv makes so much money off of us, that this is their way of giving a little back.

And when it does, I hope their satellites come crashing down on their headquarters. Maybe then their shitty service will find the signal.

or something close to that...
