Let's keep NY sports relevant

until the Giants play in September. Without the Yankees, NY sports are dead until September.

At least win 1 and I'll be happy with a 4 game split.
I like this pitching matchup, too.

I have always been a Girardi defender but some of his lineups this season are inexcusable. If he's going to have Sanchez out of the lineup in game one, Castro needs to be in there. The bottom third of this lineup is a joke. Sit Castro in game two if his hammy needs a breather.

I like the thought process. He's a closer, so you don't want to overwork him or underwork him. And with a three run lead, it gives him so wiggle room as he works his way out of his recent slump.

I agree about them. Still didn't want to walk out there losing a 4 game series, though, which was possible given how the Yanks played for a full month going into the All-Star break.

Absolutely. The Sawx are only one games ahead in the loss column ahead. The Yanks have a bunch of games in hand. If they had held Friday, they would be one game ahead in the loss column....

Considering they beat Sale back in may in the 8th inning after being shut out, I would not concede that the Sox should have won yesterday. In the Friday loss, Chapman had two seeing eye base hits and then bad fielding after that before some bad walks. At least Kimbrel gave up a HR to a masher.

Price looks sharp.
section125 : 7/16/2017 8:41 pm : link
Might take a few innings to get to him.

As I said earlier, the Red Sox plan to pitch to the Yanks is breaking balls hard inside or outside corner, then throw high pitches away to get then to swing. Good plan and is working well.
So the Sox are formally
section125 : 7/16/2017 8:49 pm : link
proceeding with the Protest over the Holliday interference non call in Saturday's game.

Maybe doing it just to get a clarification on the play. Since nothing happened except for one extra batter in that inning, I doubt MLB would rule in the Sox favor.

considering how awful the previous month had been.

This. I think in a lot of ways we steadied the ship a little bit this weekend. Take away the horrific luck in the 9th inning Friday (2 sawed off inf hits and an error) The Bullpen was on another planet this weekend. Judge didn't hit a lick, besides the huge HR yesterday Holliday did nothing, and we managed a split. Hopefully the offense get going in Minny a park we've always hit well in.

Headley is Fucking awful. Looks like he's swinging a sledgehammer out there.

Good to get a split on the road. Especially when your best player was struggling.

Not mad at all. No ground lost. Nothing gained.

Perhaps they can win in Minneapolis and Seattle.

Why is Headley even pinch hitting for Torreyes it makes no sense both plays are not doing squat offensively

And meanwhile Choi was available to PH there. Listen the guy isn't Lou Gherig, but he has a way better chance to run into a Kimbrel FB than our worst everyday guy by far not to mention if we miraculously tie it, Choi would come in any way because they hit Gardy for Cooper. I've said it a lot this weekend, I love Joe but as bad as the team has been for a month Joe has been that bad himself with his mind boggling lineups and in game decisions at times.
Surprised that the Yanks didn't crush Price like they normally do

Missed opportunity considering Tanaka pitched a fairly good game.
Is it just me,
bigbluehoya : 7/17/2017 8:56 am : link
Or is there a really odd level of silence among the Yankee beats with Chase Headley. The guy is absolutely fucking terrible, and it seems Girardi never even faces a question about him.

I get the argument that "he's all they have right now", but the guy regularly hits in the 2/5 holes which is just inexcusable.

This isn't me trying to blame the media for the Yankees tough slide or anything g like that, because the problems clearly go much deeper than Headley. I just find it odd that the guy is so clearly mis-used and nobody seems to have anything to say about it.

Is Headley just THAT nice of a guy to the beats that they won't touch him?
Batting Headley 2nd is a Fucking crime
B in ALB : 7/17/2017 9:07 am : link
He needs to be in the 7 or 8 spot. He's terrible.

And agree about Choi. Let him get up there and try for a shot to RF.
the likely batted Headley in the 2 hole

in hopes of spreading out the lineup and getting Headley going. He's been pretty good the last few weeks.

The nonstop Headley bashing is tiresome. He's a slightly below avg 3rd baseman. Yanks will upgrade the position when they can. Outside oe batting Headley down in the order, something the Yanks have done for a good chunk of the season, there's little that can be done. Stop the presses, the Yanks have a below average hitter in the lineup. The horror.

Price

Was masterful last night. He got a little help from the ump. but I was amazed the Yankees got any hits at all after the first inning.

This isn't a good reason place a guy in the 2-hole (or 5-hole) who has an OPS just over .700 in his almost 2k at-bats as a NYY. It isn't a good reason to do it one time, but doing it pretty consistently over the course of about 6 weeks is mind-numbing.

There would be a lot less complaining about Headley if his usage was appropriate. It's less about Headley than it is about Girardi at this point.
how many times has Headley been in the 2-5 spot?
djm : 7/17/2017 10:14 am : link
I don't remember it being that often.

Whatever. You can't really hide bat hitters anyway. Best way to hide Headley is to replace him. If the kid didn't get hurt he'd be up by now. Bad luck.

24 times in the

2 through 5 holes. Add 15 more if you expand to 2-6.

Zero times in the 9 spot.

he was red hot in April. And he hasn't been terrible the last few weeks if memory serves.

You wanna get on Giradi have at it. I just don't get too worked up over lineups like others do.
Headley has been pretty good
B in ALB : 7/17/2017 12:35 pm : link
at the dish the last two weeks. But before that he was dogshit since the end of April. Plus he's already got more errors this season than all of last season - in half the games. He's a liability.
