NFT: Yankees pitching

Big if, Betances is straightened out bullpen is strong part, is this rotation good enough to win a playoff series?

Tanaka
Sabathia
Severino
Montgomery

Can offense carry them? Could Mr 6 days rest be counted on to pitch games 1, 4 and 7? Can Sabathia still pitch on short rest?
I would not feel comfortable if Tanaka started a playoff game.

I just don't understand after all of his starts in MLB that he continues to pitch up in the zone. He should be living around hitters' shins.
He has given up 23 homeruns in 102 innings.
robbieballs2003 : 7/16/2017 8:29 pm : link
That is beyond horrible.

I haven't thought he was same pitcher since he hurt elbow year 1. Yet, we both know unless CC starts game 1, it will be Tanaka and potentially 4 and 7 also.
If Tanaka is pitching 3 games in a series I don't see how we

have a shot.
On the HRs

He was doing that year 1 also and it concerned me then too. I miss the Andy Pettitte masterpieces game after game.
Either Tanaka still has a bad elbow or

Mike Mussina needs to work with him.

If he is starting three games it means the yanks are 3 and 3 and they are in game seven. So I guess they would have a chance.

Haha. True. I mean if the PLAN was for him to pitch 3 games then that is not beneficial to us, imo.

True. I hope he pitches a no hitter tonight. Unfortunately, he's closer to going 16-16, 16-14 like Randy Johnson than the dominant pitcher I thought we signed and was so excited about.
Listening to Buster Olney
KingZ : 7/16/2017 9:23 pm : link
Last yr, could been one year thing. We will see if Cash holds true to his words or as Olney said Yankees are shopping.
They would have to be getting
section125 : 7/16/2017 9:32 pm : link
a very young 1st baseman ( I don't think they have given up on Bird) or starting pitcher. So I doubt it.

Zero chance they call Tex?
Odds Tanaka opts out now?
adamg : 7/16/2017 10:02 pm : link
10%?

Better question, would they trade him? I think his opt out was predetermined. Whatever the decision was, his agent got him the opt out but I believe him to be honorable.
Tex is done, he's said so since retiring.
Dave in Hoboken : 7/16/2017 10:11 pm : link
And Tanaka is not opting out now. He got put in his place with his own performance.
I think Tanaka might opt out and do the Yankees a favor
DennyInDenville : 7/16/2017 10:14 pm : link
Japanese culture includes a tremendous level on honor and if Tanaka feels he can't honor that contract and money he might opt out and go back to Japan for a couple seasons. Sounds crazy tho, even unthinkable.

Not sure what you mean by him being honorable and his that sould apply here.

As for trading, he has a full no-trade clause.
** and how that would apply here **

More of the reverse lol but if he wanted to return to Japan, I'm sure they would discuss.
