You've stated that you axed them in part due to BBI'ers who threatened to withhold donations had you not done so.

Not a demand of course (it's your business), or a threat. Merely me "voting" with my wallet as a ying to the delicate safe spacers' yang. $1k is in my Paypal ready to go.

Not a day goes by where I don't thank God that I stopped allowing political threads. My decision is affected, but not driven, by financial considerations.

It's a quality of life issue for me.

But if you want to take into account financial considerations, allowing political threads would certainly drive up traffic and potentially dramatically increase ad revenue. But again, it's not worth it.

I imagine, for instance, the universities (who I've seen you criticize) that mostly acquiesce to their sanctimoniously PC student bodies likewise do not want to deal with headache(s) and simply want limited controversy coupled with the tuition checks rolling in.

Business decisions all.

I spend less time here than I used to, because politics has become my newest sport. Nevertheless, I heartily concur with Eric's decision to remove politics from BBI. Too many people here couldn't control themselves over politics (including Eric, btw), and this past year would have been spectacularly worse for BBI than anything that came before. Heck, people are getting divorced over politics. People are being taken out of wills over politics. That never happened before at anything close to the current rate.

Could it be controlled on BBI? Not hardly.

Can't resist agreeing with you about "not worth it." Not if the contribution amount proffered were raised to a considerably higher number. It isn't and wouldn't be -- even if I sometimes wonder about how and where the line is drawn.

but what prevents me from upping it is that BBI is without doubt the "dirtiest" site I frequent on the I. If I stay on BBI on any visit for more than 15 minutes, it routinely crashes my browser. This is across all browsers, irrespective of the device I am using.

First to occur is slowdown of loading, and I then know the fix is soon in, and then, inevitably, the browser will freeze, then the devices up and down buttons will freeze, and ultimately crash the device. Cleaning browser history does not help. Changing browsers does not help, because ultimately the slowdown impacts all tasks, even mail.

Without fail.

Eric, Gary, et al., please clean it up for a better user experience.
