Q: Could you explain what happened in your dust up with OL Adam Bisnowaty?

A: Practice is practice. You’re going to get things like that. You know, we just keep moving forward from that. We’re still teammates at the end of the day.

Q: Head Coach Ben McAdoo said the extracurricular stuff bothers the veterans. Is that because you want the young guys to understand it’s not about that?

A: We’re just out there trying to get better. Once you get in full pads, blood gets flowing and it gets very competitive out there. You know, that’s football.

Q: What do you see from T Ereck Flowers now that you’ve been through a couple padded practices?

A: As far as his hands, his hands are getting better. As far as technique, he’s improved a whole lot, I’ll say that. I know with Flowers, he’s always working on his technique and asking questions about what he’s doing wrong or what he’s doing good on. So, that tells me he’s somebody just trying to get better.

Q: Is he asking you the questions?

A: Yeah, we talk all the time. He’s asking what, as far as what techniques, as far as what he can give you. Anything to help each other get better.

Q: Are you guys excited about what LB BJ Goodson can do?

A: Yeah. BJ is stepping into his role and he’s doing a phenomenal job. As far as being out there and trying to step into those shoes and calling all the plays, we’re trying to get everything blended together and have all the communication down pat.

Q: Does he bring something physical to help this defense?

A: Oh yeah. You know BJ, he’s flying around, he’s moving. If he’s not on special teams, coming straight off special teams, coming to the periods and he’s full go. You know, we all see that. And, he’s hungry. So, we like that.

Q: Seems like every day BJ is taking a running back off his feet. Do you guys like that?

A: Yeah, he’s been hungry for a while and he’s coming in and trying to take that role. He’s going to be physical, that’s what we like. To be a part of this defense, you’ve got to be physical.

Q: Does RB Paul Perkins look more comfortable to you this year?

A: Yeah, I think so. He’s probably getting more reps, and being able to see more slowed down for him, you can see the biggest difference from last year to this year.

Q: What do you see from the young defensive tackles?

A: Those guys are working. One thing they’re trying to do is communicate. Even if we’re in the defensive line room, all those guys ask you questions, and that’s what you want. You’ve got to ask questions. If you’re not asking questions, you’re not going to get what you want. So, those guys when they get out there, they’re not just going through the motions. They’re trying to fight, they’re trying to earn a job, and they’re getting after it.

Q: With all the things you did on defense last year, is this group saying last year was good but this year we want to be better?

A: You always want to improve. You always want to improve on what you did last year and the year before that. Our mindset is right now, everything we did last year, that’s last year. We built a good enough foundation right now that we just keep climbing and keep focusing on the task at hand – September 10th against Dallas.
Well sounds like it's all peaches and cream...

Dave, haven't you heard? You can't believe what current or former players say about our players.
Can't trust Banks, can't trust OV.

Can you trust Sy'56?

Well, it's not the first time a thread of mine has been deleted.

Probably won't be the last time, either.

However, I take what Carl Banks says seriously, because he's been brutally honest in the past when he's been asked to assess a Giants player. He said it was way too early to "pull the plug," so to speak on Ereck Flowers at LT, and that going up against OV every day will help him to improve.

As for OV, it's easy to dismiss what he said as not wanting to badmouth a teammate, or, it just might be that the guys he was asked about actually are showing improvement, playing well.

In today's practice report, Sy'56 made it a point to praise the work of the offensive line, and had good things to say about Flowers. Sy has never been shy about pointing out his flaws, so when he says something positive about the guy it gives me confidence.

You can choose to be positive, hope for the best, or you can piss and moan about something over which you have no control and offer no practical solution. I choose to remain positive.
I'll call it quits on Flowers when there's a viable alternative.

Right now, there is none. He's our LT. Last year I would have drafted Taylor Decker instead of Eli Apple, but that didn't happen. This year I would have attempted to sign Andrew Whitworth, but that didn't happen, either. So, the hope is that Flowers will become serviceable at the very least, and just because he was struggling against OV in the first couple of padded practices doesn't squash all that hope. OV has a job to do, too, and giving OTs fits is a big part of that job.

So, first we heard that Flowers struggled against Okwara. The next day he owned him. Then he was struggling against OV. Today he did much better. That's what Banks was talking about...getting better by practicing against tough competition. Showing improvement, however marginal, from day to day.

And Sy also pointed out that while his pass-blocking still needs work, his run-blocking has been pretty good. God knows the Giants must be able to run the ball a lot better this year than they did last year, and if Flowers can help in that department then good for him and good for the team.

You can think for yourself but still keep an open mind. Seems to me that your mind is already made up. Flowers sucks and that's that. He's the worst OT in the league and he'll never get better. If you want to believe that, fine. That's your right. I prefer to let the preseason play out and see what happens.

I said in another thread that there are a number of things the Giants could do personnel-wise, scheme-wise, to help Flowers if he's still struggling. You chose to dismiss that out of hand. Flowers sucks and there's nothing the Giants can do about it.

You're the one with the predetermined conclusion.
