Head Coach Ben McAdoo

August 4, 2017

Q: No fights today?

A: No, we stayed the course today.

Q: What’s the plan for tomorrow?

A: We’re going to crank it back up. It’s going to be a heavy situational football day. We’ll have some pads on. It’ll be a good practice for us.

Q: Will certain parts be scrimmage-like?

A: They’ll be no live tackling at this point.

Q: There will be a bunch of live periods, right?

A: We’ll have a bunch of thud periods, yes.

Q: All distances?

A: All downs and distances, all situations, but two-minute.

Q: Behind your top three corners, who has stood out?

A: I think (Michael) Hunter has had a nice offseason. He’s picked up where he left off in camp. He’s a big, physical, long player, and he’s a young player learning the system. (Valentino) Blake’s a guy who can really run out there, and we look forward to getting him back in the mix, getting him healthy, seeing him compete. DD is a guy, Donte Deayon is a young man who gets football, who likes football, and brings a passion and energy.

Q: You didn’t bring in a lot of guys at that spot, is that a sign of faith?

A: Yeah, we evaluate everything and we’re confident in the players that we have in the position.

Q: How’s DB Valentino Blake doing?

A: He’s working back in.

Q: Getting close?

A: Yes, he worked back in today.

Q: What kind of offseason did DT Jay Bromley have?

A: Jay’s having a good camp so far. He’s playing physical, playing with a good base, and that’s a good starting point for him. I look forward to seeing him again in the preseason games. Big year for Jay.

Q: What are your reasons for jog throughs at this point?

A: The reason why we’re doing it is because it’s what’s best for them physically at this point. It’s not what we’d like to do, but it’s the right thing to do. So, We need to make sure we focus on the mental part of the game – that’s a big part of it. Communication is big; visually and verbal, clear and concise and complete communication is important. Just keeping yourself in a good football position, and making sure we don’t get into any bad habits. We gained some progress over the last three days, and we want that to continue.

Q: Is it strange to see QB Eli Manning off to the side?

A: Eli had a chance to call some plays today.

Q: Is that something he lobbied for?

A: We wanted to give him a chance to stay dialed in mentally, and get those mental reps.

Q: You’re going to call them once the season starts?

A: Yeah, Eli used a little empathy today. He got to see how challenging it really is.

Q: How much do you feel LB Jonathan Casillas has a bigger role this year?

A: Casillas has always had a big role for us and that will continue. He’s a good football player. He has a lot of experience, not just on defense, but on special teams. He enjoys paying it forward and helping the young players out.

Q: Any update on WR Tavarres King?

A: He has a rolled ankle.

Q: Expect him back soon?

A: They’ll let me know when he can practice.

Q: The MRI on WR Sterling Shepard was what you thought?

A: Yeah, nothing serious, nothing new.

Q: How is LB Keenan Robinson progressing through the concussion protocol?

A: He’s still in the protocol.

Q: Is it a relief, Shepard’s injury?

A: Yeah, injuries are an unfortunate part of the game. We take them all serious and we look forward to getting him back when we can get him back.

Q: How big is he to this offense?

A: Everybody’s important. Shep’s a good player. He had a tremendous offseason, he was having a good camp, and when he gets healthy and steps back in there, we’ll welcome him back.

Q: What can you get from DE Devin Taylor?

A: We haven’t seen much of him at training camp. He worked back in today. He’s a player that has a lot of experience, a lot of reps under his belt, and we’ll see what he has left as far as the pass rushing goes.

Q: Can he move inside a little bit?

A: He’s an outside player but has some position flexibility, yes.

Q: What are your expectations for DE Romeo Okwara this year?

A: Romeo’s a guy who learned a lot of football fast. He studies the game, he gets football and he works hard.

Q: There were a few guys sitting out today, is C Weston Richburg okay? It was the second day he was limited.

A: It was the plan for Wes.

Q: Do you buy into the idea that LB BJ Goodson shows signs of a middle linebacker personality?

A: Yeah, he’s a young player, a physical football player. Every time you see him move, he moves around like a MIKE linebacker. We’re excited to see what he can do for us.

that he'd be calling plays this season or did he just avoid the question? Hard to tell from the transcript without hearing it in context.
