We need to break out of this soon. Looks like Holliday may be heading to the DL, so that'll help, unless they insist on Romine catching more and Gary at DH.
Hicks hit a triple tonight in his rehab assignment.
What is the team record for striking out? This team has to be in the discussion for that. It's like home run or nothing for this team with very little patience at the plate. Everyone is up there swinging from the heels and not take many pitches. With a man on 3rd and less then two out the only players I have some faith getting the run in is Didi and Gardner. This team will live and die with Judge and Sanchez and right now these two are awful at the plate. I guess the days of the contact hitter are over.
On another note, Girardi better stick with Monty and put Garcia in the pen. Monty has upside and misses lots of bats and I would do nothing to impede his progress.
I said earlier in the year that when he goes into a slump people will be complaining about Ks. Even when he was red hot, he was striking out about once a game. Now that the hits aren't piling up and the HRs are few and far between, the Ks are being noticed more. But, they were there all year.

Judge and Sanchez have got be aware of the situation. Too many times they are swinging at that low and away slider with two strikes. They need to sit middle-in in those situations. Pitchers are not going to give them anything to hit if they continue to swing at ball 4. Yes occasionally Judge is swinging at up and in, but I'd venture that 80% of his Ks are balls way outside. Last night he did take a hittable FB away called third strike. But until that happens more often (the pitch) I think they should assume on a 3-2 count it will be a slider outside the zone.
We struck out 15 times and that won't win many games.
They are trying to limit his innings

Note to Joe Girardi: New-look Yankees pen can burn out, too - ( New Window )

The @Yankees have placed DH Matt Holliday on the 10-day D.L. (retro to 8/5) w/ a left lumbar strain & recalled 1B Garrett Cooper from SWB.

There's a surprise!

Wonder if Cooper is just a placeholder until Hick and/or Austin return? He didn't do a thing before.

I would think so...
