NFT: We lost someone special today

MadPlaid : 8/7/2017 4:12 pm
It is with deep sadness that I must let you all know that my dear big sister, schnitzie, lost her battle with cancer this morning. She did not suffer, and although we knew the end was near, her passing was still a shock. She hadn't posted on BBI in a while, but back when she did, she thoroughly enjoyed the witty banter that often accompanied the lively debates on the forum especially when they were good.

I know that she made a lot of friends through BBI, and kept up contact outside of the site. She would want you to know that she treasured the things about BBI that made it great especially its community feel and how so many times it was there to help people in need.

Cancer flipping sucks. Such a merciless blight on existence. Remember to keep those people who matter to you close, and to let them know often how much you cherish them.

RiffRaff and I and the entire Plaid family will miss schnitzie greatly.

my deepest condolences. Your sister was a terrific person. I had the pleasure of meeting her a few times and went to a few Yankee games with her in 2007 and 2008 at the old stadium. She loved her Yankees. I remember going to an afternoon game with her in 2007 and she went crazy when Giambi hit a walkoff home run. She came to a Red Sox game later that same year and we sat in my seats in the bleachers. We only went to a few games together, but had a great time at each game. She used to bring seemingly half of her apartment in one of those giant bags to games, always made me laugh.

I had no idea she was sick and feel terrible about that. She was one of a kind and she will be missed.

RIP, Andrea.
Thank you. Everyone

Schnitzie was a big personality in real life as well as on BBI. She really had a lot of fun posting here.

Some the debates she participated in got contentious, but more often then not, they also included a great deal of humor. She would argue well with anyone, so long as they debated intelligently. If they slipped and showed their less than intelligent side, there would be trouble.

Now, I am not entirely certain of this, but I pretty sure that the phrase, "blast her in the butt" was a schnitzie original. I think it was related to a debate regarding sexism and the inevitable crassness that men may sink to. I could be totally wrong about this, but I do recall that the first time I saw it, was in a schnitzie post.
Mad Plaid. My condolences. She was a great contributor

You are half-right. It was a schnitzie original, but it wasn't in relation to a debate on sexism. Funny as it may sound, it was simply advice she had for a BBI'er who was complaining about some girl he was seeing.
p.s.--So sad to hear about her passing. She was a strong woman with an original voice and a refreshing presence on BBI.

Schnitzie was instrumental in a contest I won on BBI back in 2010 that ended up sending me, my wife, my brother and his wife to a Giants game against the jaguars. We won club seats and got to meet former Giant Philippi sparks. It was an amazing day for everyone -- my brother cherishes that day still. He doesn't frequent BBI but I will be sure to tell him this sad news.

Thank you for sharing the news, terrible as it is. For all the stuff life threw at Andrea, she kept throwing back love - for people, the world and those Persian cats. She was a wonder.
I really have no words

Such a generous and wicked smart woman. I learned a lot from her on and off BBI. So so so so sad to lose another sister in blue. I'll miss dzaaahlink Schnitzerella. I'm so sorry for your loss Riffy, MP and the rest of the family.

I met your Aunt a few years ago by odd circumstance. We exchanged funny schnitzie stories and talked of her love for her boys in blue (Yankees included) and those Persians!

Rest Easy dzahhlink. Muah muah muah.

So, so sorry to hear this

I always enjoyed her posts. Even if I found myself on the opposite side of a debate as her I still enjoyed interacting with her. She was amoung those who have stood out to me during my twenty years on the forum. I will miss her.
Oh,This is such sad news.

Schnitzie was a unique, genuine voice here on BBI. I believe she put me in my place more than once, but never in a hurtful or malicious manner. She was content to disagree by simply stating her position. Another important voice on BBI is silenced. May God bless her and all who loved her. I'm so sorry for you family's loss, Madplaid. My condolences to your brother (Rizz?) as well.

She was awesome. When she lived in Brooklyn we would see each other around occasionally and she was the biggest fan of the butcher and baker etc. on Court St. She loved that side of life. She was always talking about the flowers she was planting, and her cats. Then she'd appear on BBI and get on a good rip about something - it was all part of her personality. She will be missed, even from afar.

Losing a family member is one of the hardest things to deal with. I lost my son right after his 20th birthday and 16 years later, it still hurts. Time does heal, but no amount of time heals completely. There will always be a hole in your heart for losing someone you love. The way I finally dealt with it is to conclude that we all have a limited time on this planet. My son was given 20 years and 3 weeks. But I wouldn't exchange him for anyone in the world so I could have a son that outlived me. He was given 20 years and it was my greatest blessing that God allowed me to be his father during his time on earth.

My prayers go out to you and your family to find peace and comfort.
Oh... my.

The origin of schnitzie is simple. It was the nickname our father gave her. I think it was short for schnitzelbach or some nonsensical word my father liked to make up with a slight German bent. She was his little girl, so any time he'd call her, it was, "Hi schnitzie! What's going on?" Schnitzie this or schnitzie that. Very cute actually. No wonder she liked it so much. Perfect handle for on-line.
