Why does every single power rankings thread have to be followed by comments like this? Does anyone on the planet really take them seriously? What's wrong with discussing the opinions of others? Some people like the Giants and some don't. Everyone knows they don't mean squat until they get onto the field. You could have easily not clicked on the thread, right?

I wouldn't post these type remarks if people DIDN'T take them seriously..Have you viewed the angst accompanying power rankings that show us in a less than positive light? That show the others in the division to be better?
Perhaps once in the last 4 or 5 years. I don't even know why we get posts about power rankings. I even think the name is silly. "Power" rankings? How about, "Here's our opinion of how the teams rank right now from best to worst."
And, as mentioned, nobody's opinion matters. The rankings that matter are at the end of the season showing how the teams finished, and are based on wins and losses.
Yes, I know this post is worthless and doesn't say anything that any of us don't already know. I guess I just hope that someday I'll never see a thread again about power rankings. Wishful thinking, I know. And yes, I can and usually do ignore them. Stupid me for commenting on it.
Think about it - we have concrete methods of determining champions. We have playoffs and a championship game. This isn't like we are back in the ages of ranking college football teams so they know where they stand for a championship - this is regarding the NFL that clearly awards hardware to a team that wins the Super Bowl.
I don't understand who likes Power Rankings. I don't think most hard-core fans do. Perhaps fringe people who don't follow but want to know how a team is doing (but why they can't just look at standings for that is a bit perplexing).
Those lists might be useful for "Best Beaches in America" or "Top restaurants in the Pacific Northwest". But for the NFL? We know who has the power - the teams in the playoffs and then the Super Bowl winner. Simple.
not everyone views them as meaningless. Far from it imo..When they stop, I will stop
Why the hell do you care what others comment about whatever power rankings? Whether they agree, disagree, think the author is an idiot or is the smartest guy on the planet, why do you care? It's simple, avoid the threads.
It seems to me that it is YOU that takes them much to seriously. What would everyone do without '56 telling everyone how meaningless precseason power rankings are? Wow, you must save everyone a ton of money because without your input, they'd all be running out and buying Super Bowl tickets! Or, on the other end, selling their season tickets if they get ranked low! Thanks man! You're a life saver!
Their bosses tell them what to do and they do it. In this case Mr. Simms boss told him to do this, so he sat down and did it. You may or may not like his work or his boss' idea but is all this is. No more no less.
ratings. They are always interesting, and yes, just to us casual fans. Not to true experts. Casual fans like to see interested comment on other teams, absorb other points of view, consider what people think about teams on the Giants schedule. Its always fun too, to see how comments repeat what happened the previous year, and present it as insight. And, of course, see how the media favorites are always overrated, like the Yankees and the Cows. Then there is new insight, just to consider together with the BBI conventional wisdom. This guy makes some really interesting points. Washington should be taken seriously, Philly, not so much. NE has continued to improve. The Giants, on paper, now seem better than the Cows. Green Bay do not have their former depth. Reading the football mags, looking casually at different sites, watching the NFL network, like we casual fans do, and checking out Sy, Eric and Gidiefor, keeps us entertained in the offseason, which is almost twice as long as the onseason. It saddens me that our entertainments are so offensive to those really in the know.
I like them also. I just like to see if I agree or not with the writer. I love the Giants on paper but I'm not yet convinced they are the NFL's #2 team.
about the existence of power rankings. If you don't like other people's pre-season opinions on which teams are good and bad, then don't click on a thread that is pretty clearly about such an opinion. Then it's like nobody posted about it!
Some people like reading pre-season opinions - about the Giants and other teams that they don't follow as closely. Reading other people's opinions is not a sign that someone thinks it is truth, or a sign that they are only a casual fan. It likely shows they are interested in reading other people's persepctives which isn't a bad thing.
But please, let's make sure to let everyone know how they should be a fan and what they should and should not pay attention to!

On second thought, I'll stop..Others should enjoy if they care to click on them
