And this is what a Chiefs blogger wrote about him after the draft:
Quote:
Brooks comes from a small school where he started two years at offensive tackle. His average size allows him to be more athletic while blocking. The Chiefs love guys who can get out in front of their runners for screens and sweeps. Brooks compares himself to La’el Collins with his hands and speed. His issue can come from being too aggressive at times and overextending. Against NFL competition, he will have to play within his means to get a roster spot. The Chiefs usually keep only eight offensive linemen on the roster, so its a tough position to get.
Strange time to sign an OL unless someone is being waived/injured.
Could be they are releasing Draughn or Thomas from PUP. With 14 OL on the current roster, maybe they want three complete 5-man units for practice purposes. And with 15 DL currently on the roster, that's a place where they may feel they have too many bodies for practice purposes (when it's only a 4-man unit).
and preseason games. This kid is very raw but he is extremely athletic. I hope he clears waivers and ends up on IR as he can still spend the year working out in the strength and conditioning program in order to earn a roster spot next year.
If Brooks can emerge as a Jonathan Cooper type ... Â

That would suck about Dunker. I figured him for the PS, but thought a year there would do him a world of good.

Not about Wheeler or Bisnowaty. They have a good chance to make it. The new guy is just a body. Could be about Jones.
At this stage in camp, for a rookie to be signed this late, it usually means they are filling an upcoming vacancy.

if this means Dunker is hurt worse than we knew.

Pat is also speculating (on a tweet) that Dunker will be the odd man out.
Dunker just waived
Doesn't look especially Permian either:
About 100 miles east of where I grew up in Abilene Texas.
At left (pulling ) guard, that would be a plus. We haven't been close to that since Seubert was here.
That could allow Pugh to go out and compete for the left tackle position that Flowers is struggling with.
