The Yankees have a long-standing tradition of not having names on the back of their jerseys. But due to a special event in baseball, that's going to change. MLB announced Wednesday that from Aug. 25-27 it will be celebrating Players Weekend across the league. What does that mean? It means players get to have creative names on the back of their jerseys, such as nicknames or anything creative they want. As part of the announcement, the league made sure to mention the Yankees. Yes, even the Yankees will have names on the back of their pinstripe jerseys, throughout that weekend series against the Mariners. Just imagine if this happened years ago, with the sight of Bambino, Joltin' Joe and the Mick over their numbers. |

This is the most.. un-Yankee like thing ever. How did this get approved?
Lol, Levine doesn't have anything to do with it. This is all MLB baseball responsible for this monstrosity. Sounds like the Yankees don't have an option. Pathetic.
Mine too.

I heard they can opt out. But Levine wouldn't do it

I haven't heard anything about that. If true, this is like the 30000th Fire able offense during Levine tenure. Guy is a complete shit stain
Can't be! Read the first few posts on this thread. It's a Yankees thing only!
It's significant to the Yankees specifically because of the fact that they've never had names on their jerseys in their history. No one cares if the Miami Marlins have dumb names on the back of their jerseys.
I have a few ideas on for some nicknames I would like the Mets to wear on their backs. Like Cespedes or Harvey for instance....
Either way, this is a stupid thing to care about more than, "Well, that's kind of dumb." The team winning some damn games is much more of an issue at the moment.
The only teams that have remotely decent ones are the Phillies, A's, Cubs, Cardinals, and Pirates. A couple others are passable- most are horrendous. Including the Mets.

As odd as you getting so defensive that anyone criticized it?
I'm a baseball fan and this is a message board. I'm pretty sure it's okay for me to have an opinion on this. I think the entire thing is stupid and I'm not sure how anything I said make it seem like I care about it beyond saying it's stupid.
Carry on!
Yuck - ( New Window )
Haha, they're so bad. "WALKIE"
Why, why, why....

I guess I just found it odd that someone who isn't even a fan of the team cared.

"My grandfather is rolling over in his grave" made it seem like it was more than that. But to each their own.
I like the Cubs and Angels one. I don't think it's a big deal since they're only wearing them for 3 games (1 series). If they were going to wear them for a week or more, then I'd step my shitting on this up. But for one series a year? Meh. They're just trying to sell some jerseys to some kids.
Weird.
May the wrath of the Bambino and Billy Martin be upon the league office heads.
Probably dumb kids and teens, that age-range would be my guess.
That okay with you or am I prohibited from making any sort of comment of the sort since I'm a Mets fan?
Head for Headley!!! Lol wtf
Brutal brtutal brutal.
Please. Feel free to share all of your opinions on the Yankees. :)
Always about the cash money
