Weston Richburg...

M.S. : 8/9/2017 7:48 pm
...check out this video at about the 40-second mark.

Giants are strong right against a 3-4 Redskins defense, with Ziggy Hood (#90) shading to the right of Center.

Richburg, then a 3-year young vet, commits a cardinal sin --
he assumes Ziggy Hood is going to be in the perfect spot to be power blocked, but one problem.

Ziggy takes a quick step to the left, and in a space of 12 inches, Weston Richburg lets Ziggy Hood cross his face and completely fans on a 300+ pound man.

A complete swing and a miss that lets Ziggy Hood waltz into our backfield untouched.

The good news: A lot of running backs would have taken it in the grill, but Paul Perkins showed tremendous instincts that turned a disaster into positive yardage.

The bottom line: Every one is wondering whether or not the light goes on for Ereck Flowers in 2017. (Most likely, it will flicker from game to game.) But that's a secondary consideration to how well our second round pick out of Colorado State holds up!

The O-line begins with the Center, and when he gets it wrong, nothing works. Weston Richburg needs to perform at a consistently "decent" level all year long for this offense to realize its full potential.

You made a topic on a discussion board that people disagree with a portion of. If you go with a sweeping generalization and put words in people's mouths, you're gonna get some disagreement, especially when it's accusing other people of being wrong.

Frankly, Richburg really hasn't even been a conversation around here all offseason. It's been Pugh, who has made no secret of the fact that he can't wait to get a free agent contract, that everyone has tried to debate the merits of.

I didn't create the topic. All I did was offer my opinion. I never expected everyone to agree with me. In fact, I made it clear that my opinion was in the minority by saying Richburg is massively overrated on BBI. I just don't understand why my opinion has to be "crazy" or "a joke", when the proof is right there on tape. I keep getting told "he was injured!!!" I'm not buying it. Other players played through injuries and performed well (Vernon, for instance).

Again, I hope I'm proven wrong this year and Richburg adds the necessary strength and anchors our line to success.

You're not buying what? You think the injury was made up or you think it shouldn't effect the play of an OC?

A DE has the luxury of the edge and unless he's stunting, he's only going to have a player to his inside. It's not that difficult to see how Vernon and JPP were able to overcome playing with less than 2 hands.

When you're dead center on the interior, you need to anchor yourself upright. Try to imagine yourself attempting to brace the impact of a 300lb DT with torn tendons in one of your hands and stay grounded. You don't think it would be exponentially more difficult to do if you could only really grab and push with one hand?

Jesus you are exhausting. You're right, I'm wrong. Okay? Can you sleep better now? Wow.

I hope he proves me wrong and plays better this year and earns the "one of the top Centers" in the NFL designation that so many want to give him.

LOL, you're making these claims and then when someone refutes them, you get all flustered and don't want to discuss it.

I just thought it was strange to claim that you "don't buy it" when the injury has been well-documented at this point. I don't know how anyone in their right mind could assume that torn tendons in a snapping hand wouldn't have any effect on the play of a center.

Sorry for being "exhausting" - I thought this was a message board.

I guess people aren't allowed to disagree with you. I understand now. Excuses trump all. Got it.

It actually seems like the reverse is true. You're throwing a borderline tantrum because people disagreed with you.

I didn't say no one could disagree with me or that I had to be right, I simply backed up my opinion. You haven't done anything other than claim that Richburg is massively overrated and that torn tendons in his hand are somehow an excuse and that you "don't buy it."

Alrighty!

I wasn't the one who called your opinion "crazy" or "a joke". I've been completely civil in the discussion. All I've done is disagree with the excuses. All you have to do is read the thread. It's all right here in black and white.

Again, I hope Richburg proves me wrong becomes a top Center. I think we all can agree with that.

I actually don't think I used either of those words... you seem to be confusing me with other posters in this thread.

I was a bit of an asshole, though. So I apologize. I do think I made it mostly about football rather than personal attacks, though. And most of my comments were more civil than not.

Anyway, yes - we all agree that we'd like to see Weston have his strongest year this year and hope that he's 100% healthy.
Thank you.

last year or the year before Hart and Flowers need to show
improvement and consistency , Richberg and Pugh need to
up there game and I suspect they will as they are playing
for not just contracts but a shot at another trophy .
Jerry is a decent pass blocker and we have Fluker who
has not played all that great but he should be a decent
back up .

For what it's worth, I agree with you. So far it's been a mixed bag with Richburg. He's an OK athlete who's undersized. Certainly nothing he does ever makes you say wow. Had 1 good year out of 3. Yes he played G as a rookie, but not well. That's a bad thing, not a good thing. Played poorly through injury last year. Bad thing, not good thing. Harsh? Maybe. But it's a harsh business.

We can definitely all agree this is a big year and obviously as Giants fans we hope he dominates. Would think that goes without saying. He plays well, he validates himself. He struggles again....that's 3 out of 4.

Claiming, to this date, that he's at any point been the best C in the NFL falls into the pom pom waving category. IMO. I'm not going to rattle off names but there are some next level C's in this league and 1 of them is in the division.

Not really. Richburg is 6'4", 300. Average starting C is 6'4, 306.

That's all well and good, except I'm pretty sure no one did that.
