just looked it up and damn: Martin, Smith, and Fredrick are all 26. That is one young group of great players.
Luckily the Giants are almost uniquely suited to counter them. Although it remains to be seen if minus Hankins will mildly reverse that.
Hankins was solid, but no world-beater and, quite frankly, Thomas, Bromley and Tomlinson are no Kuhn!! I think we'll be fine. We've also got a thumper at MLB now too.
But I think they were an bit underwhelmed w Hankins. W Vernon Harrison and JPP on the DL he as only solid. Flashed a few times but he certainly didn't seem to benefit from The extra attention those 3 guys obviously get.
He was good but w all the other dollars tied up
There they drafted Tomlinson and like the other two guys there enough to roll the dice. Goodson is also a much bigger thumper in the middle
This year. Think it's all related. This D should be amazing again
I know Collins is struggling now, but he is little younger than the other three.
True. He's also nine months older than Ereck Flowers, and a full year older than Bobby Hart. They all entered the League at the same time, though Collins lost most of the 2016 season to injury.
Hart has the least naturally ability of the three, but they all figure to improve with experience. Collins probably faces the most pressure this year: huge contract extension, high expectations, Dallas spotlight, and limited depth behind him - especially if Green remains a question mark.
several examples of posters who say in one thread that the Cowboys OL shouldn't be impacted by their departures, who then talk about how difficult it will be for the DL to repeat the success minus Hankins. Heck, it is even part of the conversation here.

They say that because it's true. If you have a star on your helmet you're probably a pro bowler at the very least. I believe there are many here that will attest to that obvious fact.
which poster on this thread said both those things? Which poster even said the 2nd part ("how difficult it will be for the DL to repeat the success minus Hankins").
Please keep in mind how hard you regularly rail against strawmen.

In response to more compelling, less hall monitor-esque posters...it's indeed unlikely there'll be a huge drop off as several of you indicated (which is why I added the "mildly" part in my first post). 3 elite run defenders on the D-line + an elite run stopping SS should assure as much. Anything Goodson adds superior to the middling Sheppard is a further bonus.
I did like Hankins as a player - that New Orleans win where he beasted turned out to be huge given NY lost the next 3 games - but it was a judicious non-signing given what he eventually received from Indy. A very solid run stopper though who occasionally would surprise with some penetration.
reading comprehension to border on atrocious the past few weeks:

I didn't say a poster said both of those things here - I said the Hankins comments "were part of the discussion on this thread", and they most certainly are - there are at least three posts discussing the Giants D.
To create a strawman argument, I'd have to create a strawman, and yet, just a look at the BBI threads from this weeks, there are 7 that discuss the Cowboys OL and 5 that discuss our questions on the DL. And there are actually 8 posters common to both groups.
I hate that I wasted several minutes of my life there, but to point out your insufferable gripes about strawmen and hall monitors, it makes it feel like less of a waste.
I'll take your word for it. But there's not a single post on this thread even hinting at how "difficult it will be for the DL to repeat the success minus Hankins," hence it's plainly not "part of the conversation here."
All good to say you misread. Your head won't explode, I promise.

It is, however, amusing to hear you lament "insufferable gripes" when a huge % of your presence on this board is going from thread to thread nitpicking - usually complete with played insults like "mouthbreather" & "fuckstick" - what you view as inferior contributions. Like getting on Sonic Youth last week in the Adrien Robinson thread for what you saw as improper use of a pronoun.
I swear it's as if your entire middle-aged malcontent schtick here is based on involuntary projection.
That's in part what makes the board interesting. I thought, for instance, the Vernon discussion earlier this week was reasonably worthwhile even though you disagreed with my contention. You stopped responding after I cited Eric's reviews as evidence, but I suspected there were fucksticks to be called out, so I didn't mind.
Difference is: my discordant opinions on FTs are with few exceptions expressed sans invective and the aforementioned played insults. Your preferred style is no doubt excusable (in your mind) since, hey, "I also chime in as an X & O'er in between my BBI side job as a self-aggrandizing stomper of mouthbreathers." You'll have to excuse us when nobody confuses you with Sy.
I wonder, by the way, if you've even noticed how some of the more impressionable posters who fanboy you have adopted your vituperative posting style? To be fair, that would of course require a certain degree of self-awareness.
Guess you're not going to recognize you misread the claims on this thread...?
I don't claim to be Sy. He's a gem and one of the most valuable assets on BBI. The fact you even used the word fanboy is a bit creepy, and the fact you think they exist is a bit more.
I don't want to be the football guru here. I'm a fan, plain and simple. BBI is a place I learn and commisearte with other fans
I know enough about football to contribute on football threads and know enough about spotting bullshit, dupes and or morons to call that out in any thread. It isn't surprising that the posters who come at me, especially ones who say I have a schtick or that I don't post anything about football, are almost always the posters I think are fucking useless.
When I start calling out people making useful football contributions, let me know. In the meantime, the irony isn't lost on me that a guy so interested in what is or isn't being noticed, doesn't realize that it isn't "fanboys" who adopted a certain style, it is other posters tired of the shit that has clogged this board from morons or straight out intentional dupes like radar, Rich Houston, or the many iterations of area junc for years.
You are by far the #1 offender when it comes to ‘going after’ other posters. I would agree it’s sometimes warranted (minus the puerile & just overplayed insults), but it regularly spills over to fairly normal posters who, yeah, may not be John Madden but are perfectly capable of offering an interesting opinion. Or at least a wholly anodyne one.
I think you sound ridiculous when you do this. I suspect many others do too. I started mostly skipping over your posts (despite back in the day appreciating some compelling analysis here & there ) but you responded to my posts a few times in the past couple weeks including once blatantly misrepresenting my position, so I was again regrettably subjected to your banality.
My opinion of you won’t change your MO. Shit’s baked in, clearly. You seem to see yourself as a kind of martyr…someone who does the dirty work of taking out the (BBI) trash!
One must wonder, however, which contingent is the more starkly pathetic one: the “bullshit[ers], dupes and or morons”, or the guy who so readily & furiously devotes his time, week in & week out, to (in his mind) taking them down.
but with the talent on the DL and the price he signed for, it wasn't going to happen. We have too much invested in the rest to spend $10M on the 4th best DL player. We should be fine with Bromley or Tomlinson in there - Bromley has flashed in camp, and Dalvin is a talented draft pick in the Hankins mold. Hankins wasn't worth the $ he got to us - he may be to the Colts, who are much thinner on the DL. But out DE's should draw enough attention, with Snacks eating up double teams (or RBs if they don't double him), to leave to other DT with hopefully an easier job on the D. Just can't invest that much into a single position group, especially with a fairly young team like ours, and a lot of contracts coming up (Odell, Collins, Richburg/Pugh - all in line to make top 5 at their positions, if not the biggest contracts in OBJ/Collins case).
Because there are a good share of Cowboys fans that I think believe Hankins was Snacks and Snacks was Hankins, making comments like we lost our best run stuffing defensive lineman.
I know opinions vary regarding PFF but I found it interesting they had 2016 rated as Hankins worst season as a pro, and by quite a margin. They attributed it to Hankins playing out of position, relegating his former position to Snacks. I thought Hankins played well last year so I find it strange that he could carry such a low grade on a defense that was for the most part dominant.
Luckily the Giants are almost uniquely suited to counter them. Although it remains to be seen if minus Hankins will mildly reverse that.

The Giants match up very well with Dallas.

You go from thread to thread refuting what other posters have said too.
At least on the football threads with decent discussion, I can add some pertinent input.
I'd say that's what separates us, but you're probably focusing more on the times I call people fucksticks and that sort of thing.
