Rosas looked pretty damn good.

robbieballs2003 : 8/12/2017 12:24 am
I just got done watching the game. I think our defense is not goimg to miss a beat. Bromley looks like it clicked for him. I could talk about a bunch of defensive players. I am still curious who our backup slot DB will be.

On offense I don't think the OL was as bad from first glance. I have been very critical of Flowers for a lack of execution/improvement over the last couple of years. He has improved so I will give him that. Lets hope he continues to improve. However, the running game is still lacking so we need to get that worked out.

Finally, there is not much you can take from the first preseason game of any season but if there is something that you can take I am very excited about Rosas. Maybe it isn't just this game but this game definitely justified all the reports we have read about him so far. He nailed that 52 yarder with ease.

He seems like he can be a real weapon with this defense. We love to play the field position game with our defense so kickoffs are important too. It seemed like if he wanted to he could boot it through the end zone but not only did his kickoffs have plenty of hang time the were also a few yards deep in the end zone. That is perfect. A lot of coaches want to entice the returner to bring the ball out. If you have a kicker that can get that hang time with that distance then you can trap a team inside the 20 let alone the 25. Yes, there is a risk you give up a TD but there is a greater chance that the return team commits a penalty causing the ball now to be placed at the 10 or less.

We can have this kid locked up for cheap and have a kicker for the foreseeable future.

A lot can happen so it is not a definite that he wins the job or even has ice water running through his veins during a game winning/tying kick but I am very encouraged by what we have in him so far.
TBH I didn't like his elevation

Low trajectory though he has a strong leg. I could see him getting some FG's blocked.
The 52 yarder definitely had a low trajectory but that is normal.

I will have to look at his other.
I would say it had a really low trajectory...
Torrag : 8/12/2017 12:39 am : link
...in contrast Nugent's 45 yarder was drilled with a high trajectory and imo went further than Rosas' 52 yarder.

Yep,at only 36, he has miles to go before he sleeps!
I liked what I noticed from both kickers.

I think we have a healthy competition.
I was impressed with him

Certainly kicking in his first ever game is as close as you can get to a game winning situation to this point in the season, and he looked unaffected.

As to low trajectory, isn t that something the coaches would notice?
.....
CoughlinHandsonHips : 8/12/2017 7:51 am : link
I only saw his first kick.

Don't 50+ typically have a lower trajectory?
I thought both kickers looked good
johnnyb : 8/12/2017 8:00 am : link
but Rosas impressed me with his kickoffs as well as that 52 yarder. He NEVER kicked a FG longer than 50 yards, so I thought it was important to give him that opportunity. Nugent has the experience but this kid is built like a safety- 6'3", 220lbs. He can only get better.
I posted this on Twitter

and sent to BBI. In the warm ups prior to the game, Rosas was blasting 50+ yard field goals that were going about half way up the net, with a good 15 yards to spare. I captured one of them here in this video. Yes, he did yank one that went into the stands, but you could see the difference between him and Nugent just in the way the ball went off his foot. Nugent hit a 50 yarder that cleared the crossbar by a couple of yard and was caught by a guy behind the uprights. Rosas' went well into the net. This kid has a strong leg.

That Rosas 52

Yarder was good from at least 57. Yeah it may have has a somewhat low trajectory, but it was 50+ yard FG. If he can consistently drill them like that the Giants are in very very good shape.

Also the run game didn't look good because the Steelers could sell out stopping the run. They know Josh Johnson is terrible so they weren't even worried about the pass. With Eli, Odell, Marshall, Shepard, Engram, Ellison, Harris, Powe, Adams, Lewis, Vereen teams aren't going to have the luxury of stacking the box.
I was comfortable
jpennyva : 8/12/2017 9:30 am : link
with the performance of both kickers. However, I would like them to only have the occasional opportunity to kick FGs as I'd prefer the offense score many more touchdowns than FGs. They rely on FGs way too often. Although they still do need to work on eliminating the block in the back penalties, I am mostly encouraged with the special teams play. I chalk some of the blunders up to nervousness for rookies playing in their first NFL game, preseason or not.
I am glad Rosas made his kicks and I am rooting for him.....

but I was surprised that his kicks didn't seem to have much power. The 52 yarder barely made it, and his kickoffs did not go through the endzone. Still, he showed guts, and THAT is the main thing. He hit a 50+ yarder too, which around here, rarely happens.
Keep the young kicker

for a change of pace, never been a big fan of Nugent.
This kid has a stronger leg to me.

Is everyone forgetting it was raining and everything was soaking wet when he had to kick from 52?

I mean, it was a 52 yard kick. There isn't a long list of guys who can blast a no-doubter from 55.
I like Mac's quote after the game:

Could see us go either direction but would obv prefer if Rosas panned out
For sure..
FatMan in Charlotte : 8/12/2017 1:20 pm : link
Rosas has a strong leg, but to me the 52 yarder was a mixed bag - the trajectory looked low and it only landed a few yards through the upright.

It seems harsh to compare him to Dan Bailey, but he's put some 50+ yarders well into the net. And the wind wasn't what we may see later in the year.

But then again - I'm pretty sure Nugent isn't going to nail it much better.

For seeing him kick for the first time, I was impressed.
Rosas got to be the man we keep
csh2z : 8/12/2017 3:13 pm : link
As young and strong as he is, we can't keep both on the 53. We need the roster space. If we try to stash him someone will scoop him up in a minute and we lose him. He simply has too much potential to risk.
Hasn't Josh Brown's exile

Barely made it? The kick literally split the uprights and when it went through the posts it was about 3/4 up the post. That kick was going to be good from at least 5 yards farther back.

It was fairly low trajectory, but it cleared easily (not barely) and was about 1 yard or 2 off center. What I noticed was all his kicks go almost dead center. He looks like the real deal to me.

Yeah it cleared easily. I have a screenshot. It's probably closer to the top of the post then it is to the middle of the post.

only BBI can find a way to complain about a rookie nailing a 50+ yard field goal
The guy has a video out there kicking 80 yard field goals
