Dalvin Tomlinson

CMicks3110 : 8/12/2017 5:24 pm
been watching the game several times over and he just stands out above all the other DLs that played any significant number of snaps. He is EXTREMELY strong, very stout against the run, great leverage, hard to move, and caused a lot of inside pressure. Bromley got some accolades but I see this guy starting pretty early. He looks to be the goods.
he was mostly up against Ramon Foster

who is a very big and talented man. Rated 87 in PFF last year if that means anything ot anyone.
It's Bromley

If he can play like he played yesterday, he's the starter at least for now. He'll bring the inside pass rush that the team wants from a DT. Tomlinson looks like he can be a player but he more the Snacks clone. I think they want the inside rush and that is Bromley if the light finally came on.
Bromley was touted and drafted early

as a three technique DT. He has not shown those skills before this season. He looked good last night and hope this is his future from here on out. Because of Snacks he is getting one on one coverage so he just has to beat his man. Get it done Brom.

besides Barry Cofield (due to need) the Giants slowly integrate DT's, look at the snap counts of guys like Linval Joseph, Jonathan Hankins, Bromley, Alford, Austin (injury not withstanding)

Linval and Hankins both 2nd round picks and neither got a tons of snaps early. Linval only played 6 games as a rookie and Hankins played 11 with 0 starts.

So unless it's due to need I think the Giants will use Bromley and Robert Thomas more early.

I do think Tomlinson looked really good shedding blockers and disrupting the backfield the few plays I noticed him.

Taylor,

Bromley, & Wynn made Tomlnson look like the rookie he is. The defensive line gets a game ball. Collins, was a man amongst boys. I haven't been this excited about a safety since 42, traversed a field. Palamoulu (sp.), Reed, & Taylor be damned.

What's his rating on Madden? That seems to be important around here.

Agree on Collins, straight beast
Can Tomlinson play OL?
EricJ : 8/12/2017 9:28 pm : link
seriously... we need as strong guy in there
With Dalvin we are going to have one hell of a rotation

up front. its going to be awesome
I remember watching Linval Joseph

As a rookie, and how hard he was to move. He was a brick wall even as a rookie.Watching Tomlinson violently drive the Steelers guard 3 yards deep into the backfield and envelope the running back was the most exciting play I watched last night as a Giants fan. That's not a fluke play, he will be a player to keep an eye on going forward and I am excited about the possibilities for this defense.
Tomlinson looked good...
Dan in the Springs : 8/12/2017 11:31 pm : link
should look even better if he can get into the rotation alongside Snacks, Vernon and JPP. For that matter, any DT should look a lot better on that line.

I was very pleased with what I saw out of Dalvin last night. It seems like DT is one of the hardest positions to play well in as a rookie, but I think it was Sy'56 who said he was the most pro-ready to play DT he'd seen in quite a while. If not him, maybe Dave Te or someone. Anyway, last night seemed to confirm that scout's viewpoint.

You may be right but if done for a historical reason, that's just plain stupid. Every player is going to become serviceable at different points in time. If he's ready, get him in there when needed.
Have a 3 DT rotation is nothing to complain about
Scyber : 8/13/2017 8:30 am : link
This will allow the team to rotate in the players based on situation as well as keeping them fresh. I trust the coaches to put the best players in the best position to succeed.

I agree w/ mrvax statement (other than the unnecessary pejorative characterization) more than pj, and pj's statement allows as to the reality of mrvax's: "Cofield...due to need".

Linval didn't see the field because there was so much quality and depth in front of him, less so with Hank so Hank played much more his rookie season, so roster dependent, it's going to vary. Also think MacAdoo is much less wed to tenue/seniority/vet status than TC: whoever looks to be playing well will play.

I know you've been told this a million times recently, but you are dreadful. Seriously, why can there not be a single thread, about any topic without you chiming in about the "OL"? It's beyond old. A thread about Tomlinson STILL prompts you to go on about the OL? Jeezus man. Awful.
Drafting,

seems like we have good depth at DT. Reese's pieces seem to fit.
