Raanan, actually the coaches, seem to blame him for that Watt sack early on by running the wrong route. We were discussing this in the OL thread yesterday, trying to decide which OL player was at fault. If this is true I guess none were. It also explains why Flowers ignored Watt and went out looking for a LB or DB. If this was a quick swing pass then this would be by design.

It's an example of how you can watch the games on TV and still not know how to evaluate a play. There are things going on that we don't know about.
but he seems like he has a singular ability to screw up. Yeah he's fast but he can't play offense to his speed. Seems to drop balls at the worst possible time. Mental errors. Just not a guy you want the ball going to on third down because he is going to screw up some how.
Writers talk about keeping him for special teams. That makes me uncomfortable.

Peter, I put this in the thread discussing Dan Duggan's recent articles:
Quote:
Duggan's rationale for keeping Lewis instead of Powe is that Lewis is faster, and therefore more of an asset on special teams. I've got a bit of a problem with that.
Lewis ran a 4.57 at the Combine. Powe did not attend the Combine, but ran a 4.49 at his Pro Day. Now, even if you believe that Pro Day numbers are inflated, I don't think anyone believes that they're done so to a ridiculous degree. It's not like Powe actually ran, say, a 4.75 and they clocked him at 4.49. The difference in straight-line speed between the two of them seems negligible to me, and let's not forget that Powe is almost two inches taller and twenty pounds heavier than Lewis, and a hell of lot stronger (at least where the bench press is concerned), and put up better numbers in the VJ and BJ.
We also know that Powe was a pretty good special-teamer in college, with a blocked punt to his credit, and was only taken off special teams when he became a much bigger part of the Cal offense. I'd take Powe over Lewis every day and twice on Sundays.
He's had some horrible luck with injuries, but he's been fairly productive when healthy (which hasn't been too often). Initially, I didn't think he had much of chance to make the team. Now, I'm not so sure he won't, especially if the Giants decide to keep five Safeties (which I really hope they do).

that's even more true of J.T. Thomas. No way they want to pay him $3M to come off the bench. They just want him healthy enough to avoid an injury settlement.
Milton: You keep repeating the same thing about J.T. Thomas
No way they want to pay him $3M to come off the bench. They just want him healthy enough to avoid an injury settlement.
You're entitled to your opinion; that's fine. The team is thin at LB, and can use help on specials. A healthy J.T. Thomas could be part of a solution. Not saying he will be - just that none of us have a clue . Of course Thomas isn't worth $3MM, but that problem can be fixed with a pen.

I'm all for keeping Thomas at a reduced salary. And it's not unreasonable to think that they could come to an agreement on it, but why is it taking so long for Thomas to rehab an ACL he tore 11 months ago? The whole thing feels like a game of chicken to me with Thomas angling for an injury settlement and the Giants thinking they can wait it out and then release him at no cost. Or at the very least, have more leverage when it comes to negotiating a paycut.

Davis Webb didn't get a rep in team periods today. At some point fans will stop asking if he's going to be the No. 2 QB this season.
Barden made highlight catches in practice against scrubs too. LaCosse needs to stay healthy and produce in games - and that includes blocking. I hope he can. There's a place for him if he can grab it. It's not as though Jerell Adams or Will Tye has a lock on a roster spot, and two extra TEs behind Ellison and Engram is a possibility.

No, we won't. And we shouldn't.
Just don't see how people can think a QB who barely spent any time under center on college would be ready to be a backup. It's unrealistic.

Predominately, it is wise to defer judgment and tip your cap to the coaches that make the decisions because they should clearly know best.
And, every now and then, there are times like this that make you sip your martini on a Sunday evening and say "Why?"

And that's why he should be getting as many snaps as possible now.
What's unrealistic is expecting that Geno Smith or Josh Johnson would be anything more than they've been before - which has been deeply disappointing - should the need arise for one of them to play.
The odds that Webb could perform at Geno Smith's level

Duke Ihenacho is back on the field; left Friday's game with a hamstring injury-

LBs Mark Herzlich and Keenan Robinson are back at practice. We'll see how much they do.
DT Robert Thomas back as well. #Giants
Duke Ihenacho (hamstring) and Calvin Munson (knee) the only players banged up Friday are suited up for practice.
All of the players who missed Friday's game with injuries are stretching: Shepard, King, Herzlich, Rob Thomas, K. Robinson, Snead, Murphy.
JT Thomas (knee) and Shaun Draughn (ankle) still on the side.

Kevin Norwood was just helped off the field. On the sideline now limping on one leg.
Colin Thompson had his appendix removed, which is why he's absent.
