a game at Citi one day. Definitely going to look into it. Joel Sherman is a great source on this. He's tweeting like crazy about the though process and scenarios that were discussed.
If the Rays get the gate it makes a ton of sense to play the game at Citi. Field likely half full, at minimum. Teams wouldn't draw a fraction of that in a truly neutral venue (except Montreal, perhaps)
Sounds legit. Maybe I'll go out to citi, tix will be cheap I'm sure. Driving to citi blows tho nevermind
Imagine if you could have just worked through that little stream of consciousness all by yourself without posting it. If you're going to finish your post with "nevermind," then you can take it a step further and not hit "submit."
Somewhat dubious, but the only reason I can think of.
from RAB:
"NYC Football Club, the MLS franchise that plays its home games at Yankee Stadium, has a game this weekend, and I assume thats why the Rays series wont be played in the Bronx. They wont be able to get the field prepped in time for baseball after a soccer game Saturday."
It will obviously be more profitable than moving it to a truly neutral site, but that should factor into it. Moving it for weather is a necessity, but the yanks shouldn't get such a competitive advantage as having it in NY, even in Queens. (For the record, I thought it was extremely unfair when the Saints game was moved here),
Apparently the league did try to find a true neutral site, but couldn't find enough hotel rooms anywhere for both teams. Given that, it seems more like a lucky break for the Yankees than really unfair. You can only do what you can do. I'd certainly be pissed though if this happened for a team we're competing against for a playoff spot.

Maybe this is the Red Sox punishment for stealing signs. LOL!
And we'll boo them to give the Rays back their home field.
After this year, and the announcement by Mr.Coupon that the Mets would be cutting payroll, trying to pitch Harvey on 3 days rest off an injury and raising ticket prices for next year are there any Mets fans left in NY?
for the Yankees are like playing in Citifield anyway. 40% of the fans for the subway series games are Yankee fans.
plus the Rays have the worst attendance in baseball at about 15K per game - and that's tickets sold, not necessarily gate attendance. The Mets still average a respectable 30K per game or so, despite being awful this year.

Rays get the gate receipts, correct? Probably be their biggest pay series of the season!
I actually think this is pretty unfair to the rest of the AL.

Apparently they tried to move it to Baltimore, Pittsburgh and I think 1 other city but none of them had the hotel rooms available to accommodate both teams.
Not saying Yankees did anything wrong but just shows how ridiculous and immature Houston GMs demands of Texas were when his thoughts should have been with his fans and community, not with his owners gate and need to get 81 home games.
Yet Texas got raked for something exactly the same as this NYY/TB situation.
MLB moved TB-NYY series Citi and not Baltimore or another neutral site due to hotel issues, source says. Only need rooms for one team in NY.

Hmmm...if only they had a subway line that had a stop within 200 yards of the stadium...
Great point, will likely look at tix for one of those nights myself

Absolutely the reason........even though the Yanks would be the "away" team and bat first, playing at home would still be considered an advantage.
But, they'd get more revenue I think from playing in Yankee Stadium, and working out some sort of revenue share.
