he's going to surprise a bunch of folks as to just how much impact he's going to have on games this year. He's potentially a better back than Tiki Barber. He has much more natural ability than Tiki had.
Sterling Shepard. He had a good rookie year, but I think he can hit 1,000 yards this season. All the attention that is going to be paid to Odell, Marshall, and Engram in addition to what I think will be an improved running game, Shepard is going to one on one with nickel CB's most of the year, or will be able to exploit zone coverage. I can see a 80-1,000-6 type season for Shepard.
Hard to argue against the players' votes for Goodson, Perkins, Thompson, Apple, and Okwara though. Pretty encouraging stuff regardless.
Man, if he really pans out, the Giants are in great shape at CB.
Hunter looks great in pass coverage, but I've seen him shy away from making a tackles against the run. Maybe that will change, but he's certainly a good one to have as depth, non-the-less.
Is going to be in coverage but I do expect him to rack up a bunch of freebie interceptions. Our line and secondary combo are going to create havoc on on quarterbacks this year and I expect DT to the victor of the spoils often.
perkins to tiki yet or say he had more natural ability? Tiki had all-time great vision, it's hard to teach that. Saying perkins can run faster is one thing, i'm sure he can, but it's the vision that separates tiki
There is something about him maybe he has some Harry Carson in him I think we would all be pleased with that .
I have hopes for Thompson as we have needed a ball hawk centerfield type player who is still an unknown commodity .
Another guy who may not get enough snaps to also make strides is Jerell Adams who has the size and starting to show some athleticism .
To go from a guy mostly a backup at best his first year to league's best in a single off -season and not get a single vote really shows that the players (and Dan, no offense intended) don't really know what "breakout" actually means.
I just don't see the line blocking well enough for Perkins
to breakout as a runner. That being said, I look forward to seeing a full season of catching the ball out of the backfield and in the screen game specifically. We haven't had a consistent screen game since Tiki retired but we've seen flashes from Perkins. (one in particular)
Perkins and Engram being legit threats in pass game will make the Giants tough to blitz and IMO Eli was uncomfortable in the pocket last year and we don't play well when that's the case. Anything the team can do to alleviate the pressure will go a long way. Getting Vereen back is big too. But a threat out of the backfield on 1st and 2nd down is bigger and will make us harder to game plan against.
one voted Flowers or Hart. We badly need at least one of those guys to step up big time.
Yeah it's particularly noteworthy that no teammate voted Flowers because he would be the obvious choice if he had shown any sign in camp of taking his game to the next level.

And Goodson on Defense.

Two very good selections.

Michael Hunter must really believe in himself.

2. A few guys mentioned Engram and Tomlinson, but I vetoed rookies. They don't qualify as breakout players in my book.

If that happened, Flowers became mediocre, and the team was relatively healthy, they win the Superbowl. Bottom line.

That's right. Nonbody voted for an offensive lineman?

That's an interesting exercise and a good article - thanks Dan!
I agree. I think Hart and Flowers could surprise this season and shut everyone up and be mainstays on the OL. I sure hope so!

OLinemen aren't sexy picks...
