#NYG should:
Play Darkwa. Make OL changes. Tell Geno 2 B ready. Pray Odell can play Monday. Activate Travis Rudolph if King is still hurt.

yup
We have a 3rd round pick in Webb
PatersonPlank : 9/11/2017 11:38 am : link
who has shown well. IMO he was better than Geno in preseason. The way to build a team is not to cut bait on a top draft pick with potential one year later, simply because he's not the starter. We'd waste another top pick, not to mention making the 3rd pick last year a waste, and then what? That QB shows promise but doesn't start, so we draft another in 2019? You need to give the kids you have, who are showing good things, a chance. Otherwise you will be in constant re-shuffling. In addition I don't think all those QB's are good, the Wyoming guy looked awful for example. What is the hit rate on QB's something like 30% to just stick? We have a guy who has shown promise at the NFL level, albeit in preseason, but preseason experience is certainly preferable to someone 1 game into their senior college season. If Webb didn't look good then I would have a different stance.

If Fluker is better in the run game, but equally bad at pass pro, then he should be playing. At least we'll get some run blocking out of it. Jerry has always been a terrible run blocker, and now his pass pro is just as bad. Sit his fat ass down.

a good idea to hire Mike Sullivan to coordinate a west coast offense with a rookie HC... when he completely bombed in Tampa under Schiano and HAS NEVER RUN A WEST COAST OFFENSE...

It's a fn disgrace... and goes against all reason and common sense.

And for the love of god sit Jerry and start Jones.

Last night was unwatchable and the o-line is an embarrassment. I'm not usually a fire Reese or overreaction guy but he is ruining the final third of Eli's career with this dog shit o-line and never addressing it... Preseason the offense looked exactly the same as yesterday... then they bench Jerry and install Jones in the Jets game and 75 yard drive for a TD... The right side of the line is horrific and Jerry is mostly the cause of it and needs to sit... At least Jones' averageness is better than a turnstile. He locks his guy and even though he gets pushed back a little he is smarter and doesn't give up the QB and coach killing plays. Pocket is always collapsing, we need FIGHTERS up front.

Giving your franchise QB a terrible OLine the last handful of his prime years is/was a pretty shocking decision by Reese. Wonder he feels about that decision today.

Reese speaks in a very condescending tone whenever you question the direction or decision making. It is as if the video is not telling the story and they know more than we do. Some secret inside info on some of the players that never materializes on game day.

This morning, Ross Tucker was talking about our OL. He said that he understood it was a poor draft class for OL and that there wasn't a glut of free agents available. However, he said there were a few out there and we did nothing. He could not understand why we thought going into this season with the same group of guys was going to yield different results.

You can't argue with that
I think Darkwa can play more
mikeinbloomfield : 9/11/2017 12:01 pm : link
but I wouldn't say he should take over as the starting back. And I hope she means Eli is going to get hurt, so Geno should be ready, because come on. If Eli is going to be replaced by anyone, it should be Davis Webb, who has a future with this team.

And I don't get what Eli is supposed to do. He literally has half the time he would need to get the ball down the field. Dallas was getting pressure rushing 4 and dropping 7, which means that there are fewer places to go with the ball.
The Geno part is only acceptable if the goal is trying to get
shockeyisthebest8056 : 9/11/2017 12:10 pm : link
Sam Darnold in the draft in 2018.

Otherwise, I agree with the rest of it. I thought Darkwa should've played more last night and I'm honestly ready to give up on Flowers at LT. I'd switch him and Pugh ASAP. Bobby Hart was even worse than Flowers... I just don't know what the answer for replacing him is unless they moved Flowers to the right side.
To me the offense feels like the D did a few years ago
PatersonPlank : 9/11/2017 12:11 pm : link
Always look out of synch and confused, massive communication breakdowns, and just embarrassing. Then we got a talent infusion and a new coach, we need to do the same with the offense. Get Jerry to the bench, get a new OC, change the attitude of the team.

Also if I play another QB its Webb, not Geno. Playing Geno does nothing for us. He is not the future and offers no additional chances to win this year.
Kim clarified that what she meant by the Geno comment
NYGmen58 : 9/11/2017 12:14 pm : link

Re Jones' size
Dr. D : 9/11/2017 12:16 pm : link
Call me ignorant, but why is 6'2" considered bad? You always hear that leverage is key and OLmen have to get low. It's not like he' 5'9". It seems girth is more important and he has that. Imo his height shouldn't be a factor and maybe even help w leverage.

But just the eye test indicates he's better than Jerry. I don't care how tall he is.

Eli is not playing well and has not for over a year. the idea that it is just going to magically change isn't necessarily true. right now he is a middling QB on a team with a great defense and weapons at the skill positions.

if this continues, I personally would endorse a change - if only to see what else we have and what it might mean for the offense.

Every time he plays the offense looks good. McAdoo and the other OL seem to have zero respect for him but he's the only guy who actually blocks and his man STAYS blocked. He latches on like a pitbull. That's what we need, I couldn't give a sh#t he's small, he's the only guy who plays with any intensity up front. And we sit him.

He's smart & he plays with intensity. We have no need for that.

Because Richburg is a #2 pick and did look good his second year. Same reason Flowers plays. He was a top pick.

That's not just the Giants. Fluker started all four years with Chargers because he was a top ten pick or thereabouts. Now that he does not have that going for him, he can't even get on the field on a team with shitty OL.

Richburg looks to be heading down the Fluker path. I still hold out some hope for Flowers because LT is tough to play and he should really be at RT or G.

Your QB list for the upcoming draft is a little specious. Mayfield and Jackson are not NFL QBs. They are great college QBs but neither is likely to be a starter in the NFL for different reasons. Browning does not look to have the necessary arm strength or, possibly, the durability to succeed at the next level. Allen, Rosen and Arnold have intriguing potential but none are there yet. Falk is another with ability but lets see how he does this year. Webb deserves a shot to replace Eli when the time comes -- but not now. Eli will come around.

section125 : 9/11/2017 2:29 pm : link
I thought Eli was awful last night (not enough practice in preseason games???). The line wasn't good early, but Eli repeatedly passed up quick passes to open receivers underneath and then by the time he went back to them they were covered. He caused a penalty for ineligible receiver (Richburg) when he had Engram right in front of him wide open (would have been a minimum 6 to 8 yard gain), held the ball looking for who know what downfield, then dumped it to somebody.
Despite 75% completion percentage, he missed a wide open Marshall badly which would have been a 20 yard gain minimum, got picked off on a double covered Lewis, got sacked on 2nd and goal at the 3 instead of throwing it away, threw passes to receivers well short of the 1st down line all night and had happy feet even when the protection was good - which it was for most of the second half. It might be time for Geno.....(blaaaach).

Agree on Darkwa - Perkins is easily brought down and misses holes and looked slow.

Please get John Jerry off the field - this is imperative for Eli's (or Geno's) life.
Yeah, Carl says a lot of weird shit.

Nothing wrong with criticizing Eli's play last night, but I'm curious how he is responsible for Richburg's penalty? Unless it was a blown up screen play, Richburg has no business going downfield, regardless of how long Eli hangs on to the ball.

Carl did not say Eli is not tough. He said Eli gets rattled. We all know it is true so lets stop pretending that it does not happen. You can fucking see it! You can see Eli's clock shorten. You can see him stop looking to the 2nd and 3rd options. If you don't see that, then you just don't have "the shine"... LOL

Now, people here can criticize Carl all day long. In the end, I think he knows just a little bit more about this than we do.

Darkwa showed he can play in 2014 when he had a nifty run against the Rams that year to score a TD. He also trucked over Greg Hardy in 2015.

Yet, for some reason he was buried behind guys like Rashad Jennings and Andre Williams. Literally every time I've seen him carry the ball, he's been impressive. He is a decisive runner and that isn't something we've had since Ahmad Bradshaw played here.

He's always produced, albeit in small sample sizes. Not sure why he doesn't get more burn. Perkins looked very indecisive yesterday.

As others have pointed out, Banks talks like a typical defensive player - everything's about toughness, quitting, getting rattled, imposing your will - things that are impossible to actually quantify or explain. Go back to 2007 and you'll hear the same shit said about Eli. It's tiresome.

Eli scrambled to the right, maybe Richburg thought he was going to run. Maybe it was a screen(IDK), but if Eli had thrown the ball to Engram when he was open, there would have been no penalty. It was like Eli didn't want to hit what was open and just held the ball.

I suspect the issue with him is a matter of versatility. He runs well between the tackles, but they don't seem to use him for anything else, which suggests to me he has demonstrated the ability or grasp.

Eg, does he struggle with pass pro, can he catch passes out of the backfield and be effective, is there some aspect of his game outside the tackles that stinks, etc.

He also hasn't demonstrated the ability to stay on the field, which has put him in something of a Catch-22: He can't shake the injury-prone tag without a lot of reps, and the staff may be reluctant to give him the reps because he has been injury-prone.

Eventually, Perkins will probably get dinged - or flop in the lead role - at which point Darkwa will get another chance.
