Defense

BigBlueJ : 9/11/2017 3:30 pm
I did not see the game due to the hurricane. Saw the score and press clippings as well as our BBI freak out. I just finished watching the 10 minute highlight reel and did not realize we held Dallas to 3 points in the second half. Was that more of Dallas trying to control the ball and run the game down or were we stout throughout the game?
Defense played fairly well throughout considering Dallas held big....
Simms11 : 9/11/2017 3:34 pm : link
advantage in TOP. We sustained a few more drives in the second half as well and that also kept Dallas off the field, but when they had the ball they ran quite a bit in the second half. Our D was worn out by then too.
Thanks Simms11

Maybe this was overplayed in the highights but our Oline look liked the worst position group in the league.
The D played pretty well
81_Great_Dane : 9/11/2017 3:39 pm : link
but gave up some big plays and had trouble getting off the field. It wasn't like the teams were trading 3-and-outs. Part of the reason the D wore down is that the D was giving up sustained drives.

They got no takeaways, either. But they at least looked formidable. Snacks is still a beast. Jackrabbit is still Jackrabbit. Goodson shone. But Witten was still Witten, El
That BS PI

on Jack added 4 points they wouldnt have gotten without that gift.
D did alright, not stifling, but good. JPP caused a lot of havoc, Snacks disrupted shit, and Goodson was all over the place. Vernon got some pressure but was contained by Smith. Prescott moved well. Nothing surprising about Dallas' offense, about what was to be expected. Who knows what might have been if the Giants could have scored a TD or two. Defense with more rest, more motivation to close the gap, they didnt have much momentum to feed off of.
Thats the state of things.
I'm not giving the defense a pass in this one
ZGiants98 : 9/11/2017 3:46 pm : link
They couldn't get off the field. They played a "bend but don't break" game but it allowed Dak to chew up the clock and own the TOP battle. Sorry. Way too many third down conversions they allowed for a supposed top 5 defense. They also did little to disrupt Dak.

We 'may have seen a few more drives like the one we put together in the beginning of the third quarter if the defense was ever able to get off the field.

This isn't to say they were bad. I was expecting a lot more.
The D played well against a great OL
Beer Man : 9/11/2017 3:48 pm : link
But there was a lot of bend, only a few (if any) three and outs, and the DL had a difficult time mounting a pass rush. But that is expected against Dallas. Holding them to 19 points is respectable. Before last night, I think most would have thought the Giants-O would have scored more than 19 points against a very porous Dallas-D. They didn't play lights out, but kept the game close enough that had there been a decent effort by the O, the team could have easily won.

The offense had no life, no energy. The Lions are going to be a handful.
field position

Field position was a big part of this game. The cowboys were always able to move to mid field and force DH to fair catch punts inside the 10
D Played Well
djstat : 9/11/2017 4:21 pm : link
They did not generate turnovers and gave up more yards to Zeke then Ideal, but they also were gassed. Best defense is your offense and our offense gets an F- for the game. No sugar coating, not praise. The entire offense gets an F-.

Held Dallas to under 20. Held Zeke to 104 yards. More then I'd like but considering the TOP Dallas had the ball for. D was fine.
I thought JPP

was controlled pretty well by Kal-El's brother....

I think the Giants were surprised that Dallas went no huddle so much ,that is something that they have not done in the past and it helped wear down our defense and in turn took away our no huddle offense because now we had to allow or defense to rest by slowing the pace on offense.
Think our defense is very competitive
TMS : 9/11/2017 5:13 pm : link
and Spags will sort it out. Tomlinson for Bromley for starters. Brom never makes a play or beats his man, just dances with him, despite always having single coverage. Goodson looks like the real deal, Harry Carson like performance in this game. MO
Without the bogus PI call, we held Dallas
CT Charlie : 9/11/2017 5:29 pm : link
to 15 points on their home field. If the offense had any juice, we could have -- should have -- won. Also, OBJ alone is worth 10 points. A lousy game by the offense, but not a disaster.
You keep a team to under 20 points (like the Giants Defense did)
Blue21 : 9/11/2017 6:32 pm : link
and a decent offense wins that game. Keep in mind I only said decent not great. It's amazing that game wasn't 42-3. And as a previous poster mentioned a couple calls that I thought were(a bogus PI penalty on Rabbit being one) that Dallas score could have been even less.
Good Call NYBEN1963..
Bluesbreaker : 9/11/2017 6:37 pm : link
They studied us thoroughly the no-huddle and they made some
adjustments like they spotted some tendencies .
DRC was kept on the run all night and LC made no impact .
Apple was terrible and Thompson looked lost and I am gonna say this right now I wanted a fast rangy hitter at FS
Thompson is none of these . When the Cowboys pulled left it looked like they had nine O-linemen coming . Goodson made some great stops he was an animal out there . Bromley 1 tackle Dalvin Tomlinson a quiet 4 tackles . Kennard virtually invisible 3 assist ...

The Cowboys scored 19 points and were lucky to get their only TD. 19 points is tied for the fewest points the Cowboys have scored at home with Dak Prescott, which was also by the Giants in last season's opener.

They weren't the '85 Bears, but there's a good chance that's the fewest points Dallas scores this season at home.
it may sound like a small thing but

the first down that wasn't on the first Dallas third down was big. I was hoping McAdoo was going to challenge the spot. Who scores first in these games is big.
The defense is playing well - holding Dallas to 19 pts in Dallas,

I think he might've challenged it, but the camera angle wasn't straight. He didn't make it to the yellow line, but it probably wouldn't have been overturned. Also, just like in last season's 2nd game, Garrett might've gone for it anyway.
A college level offense would've helped our defense out

by giving them time to catch their breathes. 19 points allowed, with this embarrassing offense and a bogus PI call is an amazing job.

Agreed it was big especially when you look at the field position situation.
