Did Anybody Catch Romo's Announcing Yesterday?

Go Terps : 9/11/2017 6:56 pm
He was fantastic. Very often he correctly called the play before it happened, spotting audibles, hot routes, etc. It was actually educational for someone like me that isn't an expert in identifying things pre-snap.

If he continues as he did yesterday, he's the best color guy by miles.
Didn't hear him
bceagle05 : 9/11/2017 7:01 pm : link
but the reviews from the critics have been overwhelmingly positive.
What game

Was he doing?
Don't worry, give the TV producers some time
jcn56 : 9/11/2017 7:02 pm : link
and they'll fuck him up the same way they did Simms.
He did Titans-Raiders

I was @ bar & game was on in the corner, but on mute. I read good things though.
He was great
Mkdaman1818 : 9/11/2017 7:31 pm : link
There was one moment where he correctly called a safety blitz pre-snap, and when it happened I was in awe. His energy was also a great contrast to Nantz. He was surprisingly good.
Yeah I just watched that compilation...

I loved it. He did a great job with what I saw anyway. The guy will have a long career in broadcasting if he can continue that.
I had no idea
Jerz44 : 9/11/2017 7:42 pm : link
his voice sounded like that, until I just watched that youtube video.
Sounds like what we do

watching a game: playing football psychic.

Romo sounds comfortable up there.
Al de Rogatis used to do that all the time

As impressive as that is

I don't know if I'd want plays called before they happen. I watch the game so that I can see plays develop live. Then again this does add an extra wrinkly.

P.S. How did the network ruin Simms?

That's pretty impressive.
He's fantastic in that role
dpinzow : 9/11/2017 8:03 pm : link
Also glad he's on CBS so he gets to be neutral (not a lot of Dallas games on CBS anymore)
We should hire him and pay him double whatever CBS is paying him..
EricJ : 9/11/2017 8:13 pm : link
and he can sit up in the booth and speak directly to our MLB calling out the plays.
I mean even a dead parrot would have been better than Simms
Stan in LA : 9/11/2017 8:28 pm : link
That said, Rome was good except for his occasional Namathian "He's a helluva guy" comments.
Heard he did well
BlueHurricane : 9/11/2017 9:42 pm : link
Unfortunately he is now out for 4-6 weeks with strained vocal cords

You basically stole that from a meme on Facebook.

He will only get better. Should be fantastic at it after this season is under his belt. I was pleasantly surprised.

Yeah I was getting kind of annoyed by it. Like I want to see shit happen. He was like drawing shit as the play was happening. He can go back and show it after the snap.

If they're smart, they will just have him dial it back a little. The swami act might wear thin over time anyway. I think it's more effective to share those insights during a replay, e.g. "Carr sees the free safety showing blitz pre-snap, so he etc., etc...."

He's good. I'm sure he will do well if he keeps his preparation level high (which I think has been a big part of Phil's decline).
I really liked him calling the plays out beforehand

I found it to be more educational than any other color guy I've ever heard in football.
Newly retired players, especially QBs, often do well

They're still wired in and know the inside details. The key is 4-5 years down the road when they're less of an insider. Hell, I thought Simms did quite well his first few years. Let's see if Romo has longevity.
