Playing LG. I would like to see Pugh at LT, Flowers LG Jones at RG and Wheeler at RT. Lord knows they can't do any worst! But please stop this insanity with playing John Jerry. this kid has no clue how to pick up a line stunt. He just doesn't get it. get him out ASAP.
Pugh played RT for 2 years. Why not move him there? Flowers-Jones-Richburg-Fluker-Pugh with Jerry as backup for both Guards. 3 positions changed but nobody out of position. Of course they should have been experimenting with this stuff in camp but good lord, are we going to go with this current configuration for 16 games and just hope that they jell all of a sudden?
The results are far from guaranteed.
A huge change would be:
Flowers-Jones-Richburg-Fluker-Pugh
It would have been nice to see that during preseason.
If that is the strength of the OL then it has been proven not to matter. And it's not like we're running between C and LG for 10 yards a clip so I feel pretty confident that we're not losing much in moving Pugh.
Now, we all know the Giants can't go and entirely revamp the OL in Sept. At best only a few tweeks can be made now. Perhaps playing Jones over Jerry. But no major reconstruction can happen now.
Offseason is a different story. Pugh is heading to FA and Guards have been getting crazy money lately due to the lack of OL talent in the league. I think the Giants should keep Pugh at LG for the rest of this season (can't change now). Then sign him to a lucrative LG contract, and then move him to OT. He is the best OL the Giants have, he can play three positions on the OL. I understand that he won't be cheap, but get him at a high OG salary and then move him to OT, then you have a reasonably priced good OT.
Sub Jerry in on passing downs. When it's 3rd and 5+ it is not like this is tipping your hand.
Might improve the running game.
Perhaps they revisit trying him at tackle, but it sure seems like going backwards to those in control.
The fact that he was moved off the edge tells us 1 of 2 things.
Either the staff is totally incompetent and therefore anything that is done is going to be the functional equivalent of re-arranging the deck chairs on the Titanic,
or
Whatever he is, Pugh is not an NFL OT.

I don't disagree, but the sad fact is he might be the best OT on the team
Want to change one guy? Maybe....but wholesale changes are too late....
We don't have a single Pro Bowl caliber guard or Tackle on the roster.
We're already at the point where the personnel groupings and playcalling look predictable, bringing in a specific line for running plays would be the equivalent of holding up a flash card that says 'Hey, we're running now!'.
Last year was Solari's first year. Giants don't hire and fire coaches like disposable parts.

Unbelievable. No team has ever or will ever do that. It'd be like saying every time the Mets want to throw a fastball bring in DeGrom and a curve bring in Matz.
