Our best Tackle on the team is...

Gmen8691 : 9/12/2017 9:49 am
Playing LG. I would like to see Pugh at LT, Flowers LG Jones at RG and Wheeler at RT. Lord knows they can't do any worst! But please stop this insanity with playing John Jerry. this kid has no clue how to pick up a line stunt. He just doesn't get it. get him out ASAP.

That would make it worse....

Has Flowers even practiced at LG? People need to stop just throwing shit on the wall hoping it will stick. Lord knows this is how the Giants got in this position in the first place ;-)

Pugh played RT for 2 years. Why not move him there? Flowers-Jones-Richburg-Fluker-Pugh with Jerry as backup for both Guards. 3 positions changed but nobody out of position. Of course they should have been experimenting with this stuff in camp but good lord, are we going to go with this current configuration for 16 games and just hope that they jell all of a sudden?
Pugh at RT and Jones at LG
ij_reilly : 9/12/2017 10:14 am : link
Seems to me to be the best option, if anything is going to change.

The results are far from guaranteed.

A huge change would be:
Flowers-Jones-Richburg-Fluker-Pugh

It would have been nice to see that during preseason.

Flowers has played ok so far
Torrag : 9/12/2017 10:27 am : link
...progressed slow and steady through camp and pre season and wasn't the problem vs dallas in Week 1. He's no Jonathan Ogden, and will probably never be a star but he's now the best OT on the team.
0-1 is not panic time
AnnapolisMike : 9/12/2017 10:27 am : link
The Giants were 11-5 last year with Flowers at LT and had a top ten offense in 2015 with him at LT as well. The strength of the line (if you want to call it that) is LG-C. Pugh needs to stay put unless Flowers just completely implodes.
Why the focus on Flowers - has has not been the problem
PatersonPlank : 9/12/2017 10:31 am : link
Jerry and Hart are.

If that is the strength of the OL then it has been proven not to matter. And it's not like we're running between C and LG for 10 yards a clip so I feel pretty confident that we're not losing much in moving Pugh.
Ok, so I had the same thought this morning
Emil : 9/12/2017 10:51 am : link
Our best OT is playing LG. I get it, he has the ability to be a pro-bowl LG. But this is cart before the horse thinking. What difference does having a pro-bowl LG make when your OL can't run block and your QB is uncomfortable in the pocket. That's like saying I've got these great racing tires for my Yugo.

Now, we all know the Giants can't go and entirely revamp the OL in Sept. At best only a few tweeks can be made now. Perhaps playing Jones over Jerry. But no major reconstruction can happen now.

Offseason is a different story. Pugh is heading to FA and Guards have been getting crazy money lately due to the lack of OL talent in the league. I think the Giants should keep Pugh at LG for the rest of this season (can't change now). Then sign him to a lucrative LG contract, and then move him to OT. He is the best OL the Giants have, he can play three positions on the OL. I understand that he won't be cheap, but get him at a high OG salary and then move him to OT, then you have a reasonably priced good OT.

A realistic incremental step since we use personnel packages anyway

Start Fluker at RG and have him play run downs and ambiguous downs.

Sub Jerry in on passing downs. When it's 3rd and 5+ it is not like this is tipping your hand.

Might improve the running game.
Pugh has been evaluated over time
JonC : 9/12/2017 10:57 am : link
at both LT and RT, and was inserted at LG, where he has begun to realize his potential.

Perhaps they revisit trying him at tackle, but it sure seems like going backwards to those in control.
As to the noise about Pugh
Bob in Newburgh : 9/12/2017 11:00 am : link
Coaching staff observed, and presumably evaluated Pugh for 2 years at RT.

The fact that he was moved off the edge tells us 1 of 2 things.

Either the staff is totally incompetent and therefore anything that is done is going to be the functional equivalent of re-arranging the deck chairs on the Titanic,

or

Whatever he is, Pugh is not an NFL OT.

I don't disagree, but the sad fact is he might be the best OT on the team
Jerry played mostly right tackle in college. Just sayin'
Ivan15 : 9/12/2017 12:25 pm : link
The Giants have always tried to just sub inforan injured player. Historically, they don't like to make more than one move, but desperate times call for desperate measures.
The time to experiment with the line is

Want to change one guy? Maybe....but wholesale changes are too late....
I also don't understand why the O-line coach
Gmen8691 : 9/13/2017 9:46 am : link
isn't on the hottest of seats. He's developed no one. But here we are rolling out the same exact line that's been terrible for 3 years and counting. And we're all just hoping and praying for miracles here.
Enough with this

“Pugh is a Pro Bowl LG” homer bullshit. Reality: He’s never sniffed the Pro Bowl. Hes an average starter at best, nothing more. Unreal that Giants fans who watched Snee & Seubert all those years would think that. Those were Pro Bowl G’s.

We don't have a single Pro Bowl caliber guard or Tackle on the roster.
Plugging in a different lineman for running downs
jcn56 : 9/14/2017 12:25 pm : link
might be the worst suggestion I've ever read on BBI.

We're already at the point where the personnel groupings and playcalling look predictable, bringing in a specific line for running plays would be the equivalent of holding up a flash card that says 'Hey, we're running now!'.

Last year was Solari's first year. Giants don't hire and fire coaches like disposable parts.

Unbelievable. No team has ever or will ever do that. It'd be like saying every time the Mets want to throw a fastball bring in DeGrom and a curve bring in Matz.
