NFT: Boxing: Canelo Alvarez vs. Gennady Golovkin

Motley Two : 9/12/2017 4:25 pm
The fight boxing fans have been waiting for. Man, if this fight can live up to even half of it's potential...

Who's planning on watching?
Who do we like?
What's your prediction?

Lot's of pick for this one to go to the cards, but I'm going Golovkin with a later round KO or TKO/Stopage 9th or 10th round.
Woops

I really like both fighters..

Both guys are old school fighters that like to scrap and for the most part let their fighting do the talking. Both have also shown they will fight anyone put in front of them...although GGG's opponent resume doesn't look as good because he has been dodged so much. However I feel like GGG could be tailor made for Canelo if Canelo can stay in the pocket and be patient. Canelo is an excellent counter puncher and we know GGG likes to attack. Maybe Canelo chin checks him into next week. Kudos to both guys for taking the fight with much to lose!
Gonna be a great fight.

Ggg didn't look good in his last one! Think Carnelo takes it.
I'm a big GGG fan

I've been following his career for years and it's great to finally see him get a fight like this.

My household is torn as my wife loves Canelo. Perhaps the fact that she's Mexican has some influence.

Both fighters are that "Mexican-style" more or less, although I think GGG is more of a brawler. GGG has shown the ability to eat jabs in order to gain position and set-up combos. But has he faced an opponent that can punch as hard as Canelo?

Should be a great fight and I'm looking forward to it.
I find everyone is leaning towards canelo

Souring a bit on ggg as Jacobs was able to almost beat him.

What I don't understand is that canelo received favorable scorecards on several fights (not his most recent but against trout and Lara) and nobody seems to care

For me it's a toss up but I think ggg is being overlooked a bit
GGG's camp has said he purposely

Kept his last match close in an attempt to draw Canelo as opposed to dominating and getting ducked. I still like Canelo in this fight but simply because I have been a fan of his since the first time I saw him fight but GGG is truly a great boxer and presents both with there biggest challenge to date. Can't wait.
Agree with the sentiments above.

I find both fighters to be extremely likable, easy to root for and well rounded boxers. I think both do everything you could ask of a fighter above average. Youth/speed edge Canelo. Reach/power edge GGG.
Hoping it just lives up to the hype

Its a shame that tbhis fight isn't getting more pub because of the bullshit Mayweather/McGregor fight. This has all the makings to be a great one. Love watching both fight, although I will be rooting slightly harder for GGG.
So my brother has trained in the past

and is friends with Kermit Cintron. It's just one guys opinion but as a former IBF title holder and opponent of Alvarez you'd have to figure his opinion holds some weight. My brother said Cintron told him he expects Canelo to win based on his counter punching and his power. You can argue Golovkin has the heavier hands but he's right in pointing out that he hasn't fought anyone with Canelos power.

As a GGG fan I hope he's wrong, but he didn't look unbeatable in his last fight. If Canelo didn't duck him for the better part of 2 years and the fight took place in 2015 I think GGG would've rolled him.
I'm leaning Triple G. Today.

I go back and forth. Should be the fight of the year.
Ggg

Fought Jacobs who is one of the best middle weight in boxing now. Jacobs was allowed to beef up, prolly was 15-20 lbs heavier in the fight due to a clause in the fight contract.
Canelo time...

In what should be a great fight I am rooting for Canelo. Couple comments to some posts I read above..

1) Canelo did not duck just like Mayweather never ducked Pacquiao. Its called economics. They make more money in 2017 than in 2015. You want to blame anyone blame Golden Boy for prolonging the fight from being made bc he had his fighters best interest at heart

2) Abel Sanchez saying GGG carried Danny Jacobs to entice Canelo to make the fight is pure bullshit propaganda not to mention selling Danny Jacobs who is a hell of a middleweight short

Agree on 2015. Canelo should now be entering his prime and GGG's long path to big fights and exposure makes it hard to even know exactly where his prime began.
