Marc Bergevin was hired as the General Manager of the Montreal Canadiens in May, 2012. I draw this comparison because the Canadiens' major problem in 2012, just like the Giants major issue-the offensive line, have been similarly left unaddressed since that time.
The Habs biggest issue has been the lack of a no. 1 centre. In fact, I would argue they don't even have a no. 2 centre. Bergevin has done virtually nothing to address that situation. In fact, many times, and publicly, he has said it is too hard to make such a trade even though other teams have done so or too expensive to sign a free agent. At this writing, the Canadiens no. 1 centre is Philip Danault...no one's idea of a no. 1 centre.
At the same time, the Giants have had offensive line problems during this period and one could argue Reese has not done nearly enough to fix that situation. In fact, at this writing, I would say only one of the top 3 picks Reese spent on the offensive line have worked out. And that is Justin Pugh. Richburg has gone backward, did not have a good game Sunday and, of course, we are well aware of the issues surrounding no. 74. In addition, the best FA addition has been John Jerry. 'Nuff said
In both cases, we have examples of two very stubborn ownerships and two equally stubborn GMs who refuse to believe their work has been inadequate. To me, the comparison is very timely. In fact, if you remove the big FA spending spree last year, what kind of shape would you think the Giants would be in based on Reese's drafting and the player development of this team?
At the same time, as Bergevin moves into his sixth year as GM, there is only one player on the Habs' current roster who is a draft pick of Bergevin...Brendan Gallagher.
I continue to be amazed that these two men have these high paying jobs.
Reese is coming off of a successful 11-5 year that was largely due to hitting home runs in free agencies. Let's let the season play out.
I'm not saying Reese is beyond criticism, but the comparison is poor to say the least.
I'm sure you'd be George Young if only someone in the NFL recognized your expertise and gave you a shot.
1) Management believes the talent on the team is poor
2) Management believes the GM is the reason the team isn't winning it all
Put those two points aside, and I'm not sure that management should believe that Reese can't win another SB. I mean people revere parcells around here, yet once he left he didn't win another SB and didn't go particularly deep in the playoffs.
Does that make Parcells a hack?
Wake up people.

Parcells made it to the SB? how much deeper in the playoffs did he have to go?
Second, Bergevin has more than just Gallagher, since Bergevin was in Chicago when Gallagher was drafted.
he was GM for Galchenyuk (a 30 goal scorer as a 21 year old), Lehkonen, a legit two way top 6 forward, and many of Bergevin's other picks are just now reaching 22 - 23 years old. Many still 21 or under.
Additionally Bergevin traded a drafted player to get Drouin.
Lastly, there are about 15 #1 centers in the entire league. You don't just say I'm going to draft or sign a 1C, it's like saying we need a franchise QB in the NFL, we need to "just get one". Ask the Bill, Jets, Dolphins, Browns, 49ers, Jaguars, Redskins, and other teams how that works.
Quote:
void in logic in these situations is twofold:
1) Management believes the talent on the team is poor
2) Management believes the GM is the reason the team isn't winning it all

He also made it to the AFC championship game with the Jets,
with Testaverde as the QB.
who regularly replace GM's and coaches....with an organization like the Giants, who rarely do. I would say,
A)not the best of analogies, and
B)in general, not really a good idea to compare different sports. It just doesn't work well, like oil & water.
I mean I am a B's fan, the coach gets fired in
mid-season last year.
A week later he is hired by the Habs, that crap wouldn't happen with the Giants as a case in point.
Anyone bashing Reese for "not addressing" the OL is much better off questioning (1) our OL talent evaluation, and/or (2) our OL coaching -- those seem to be the real problems.
