We all know how big of a deal it is firing Pitino. But Jurich has been at UL for 20 years as the AD, and built that school from a nothing in hoops & football to national powers in both. Wow...

This is a naive question, but what's the crime actually committed here? I get the NCAA violation but even if coaches funneled money from Adidas to bribe them to go to a certain school, recruits, why is that a criminal offense? How can there be corruption by private or corporate people; they're not in the government.

Bribing officials of organizations that receive federal grant money (IOW, colleges) is illegal.
I mean something like research grants, college aid as distinct from athletics? IOW, any company that receives fed money at any part makes it fall under the law?
this will sweep to college football as well stay tuned
I'm sure the money in football dwarfs the money in basketball, but it won't come out of this investigation. This was all tied up with the shoe companies, who aren't nearly as big a player in college football.
RE: this will sweep to college football as well stay tuned
They go from being a clown program to landing 4 and 5 star recruits? Oh, ok. Must have been Jim Laranaga's personality and the Miami basketball history.

At least Larranaga can coach and Miami has a fantastic campus. Explain Leonard Hamilton at FSU first - he CAN"T coach.

for 5 years... yeah, its not an ugly campus... but i wouldnt call it anything special either.
Was the poster's point that because there are some hot girls there (I wouldnt over-sell this point either.. its not as good as most SEC schools, for example) and its near South Beach -- it can conceivably be an enticing spot for high school athletes? That would make more sense.
Also, it's not as if Miami having a lot of good-looking chicks is new
South Beach and the girls have always been there, yet they couldn't recruit for shit in basketball before the last 5-6 years. So, what changed in that time where now they're hauling in 5 stars left and right?
They're gonna have more people singing than the Morman Tabernacle Choir once the Nike and Under Armor people get dragged in, and their affiliate schools along with them.
This is going to be MASSIVE.

Agreed. This is going to be ginormous.

assistant coaches who was arrested called him last night and said he's flipping for the feds and is going to open up the whole thing. Crazy.
They should sing. Otherwise they'll be the fall guy. Even though this is the DOJ/FBI and not the NCAA, they know it won't end well for them if they pick the school/coach in the matter.
They have subpoena powers. They can get these shoe execs under oath. Coaches that have operated in a murky gray area (which I suspect is how Calipari does it at Kentucky) aren't going to be able to fall back on the Mr. Magoo defense when Nike people are testifying under oath that Calipari had implicit knowledge of this.

Rebuilt with respect to basketball
They're also saying that Jurich has not been fired.....yet.
Funny on Mike and Mike this morning:
Pinto's response to the prostitution scandal [parphrse] "I'm SHOCKED and APPALLED that this was going on"
Pinto's response to the FBI investigation of paying recruits "I'm SHOCKED and APPALLED that this was going on"
You really can only play that card once

T-minus 6 weeks until Petrino starts entertaining offers from other schools now that his benefactor and enabler Jurich is out.

Eventually. About time. Thst this has gone on so long is what's amazing. Hope they nail Nike and UA too.
Notre Dame better hold their breath. They are one of the few Addidas teams I know exist.
Oh, University 7 will get theirs

News conference in 1 hour. Maybe they fire him then.

Both on administrative leave, not fired (whatever that means).
"Jay, what do you make of this scandal?"
"Well, Bob - we need to be really careful calling this a scandal. This has been going on for a really long time now."
Oh really, Jay? DOESN'T MEAN IT'S NOT A SCANDAL, YOU HACK!

Isn't the first time and definitely not the last time he'll say something stupid.
Yes, the women are smokin. But the campus is underwhelming to say the least.

Kinda what I meant is that Miami the city itself is the attraction.

ND is now Under Armour school. Signed a 10 year deal with them a few years back.
Scratch that, the article I read was old. Michigan went back to Nike in 2016.
