So is Eli still done....

Britt in VA : 10/1/2017 7:19 pm
You idiots? Or are you finally willing to concede the complete organizational failure? Eli put the team on his back today.... Drops, horrible tackling, a 15 yard punt....

Tell me all about 11-5 again. I love that story.

Yeah, keep blaming Eli you fucking idiots. Run him out of town. You deserve the next guy, just like you deserve McAdoo.

a fan of eli but you people that defend him are so blind. he has played better these last two games but to not acknowledge that he has been part of the problem is plain biased. the giants organization is too loyal, i think we agree on that. (not firing when a unit sucks for multiple year, etc) i also think the giant fans are too loyal as well. while i love this team i can keep personal feelings out of it. eli has sucked, the coaches have sucked, and yes the fans have sucked, myself included. most of us loved macadoo last year and now the same people are saying he is a joke, so theres why we suck as fans. it seems like we only support the ones who have won for us and the people thhat come in just get a little room for error
Just a lot of dumb dumbs on this site talking about Eli

If he’s not done yet he doesn’t have too much time left, and I don’t think even his most ardent supporters would claim Eli is as good as he’s ever been. We have seen some decline. Hes not the problem, but he’s also not the solution at his age for this team long term. If the Giants have a top 5 pick and are in range to strike on a franchise talent at the position it’s a move they have to make without thinking twice. Not doing so would be negligent neglect at the most important position.
I think Reese could be out

For years, many of us have signaled that we want him gone. Nothing happens. He is a cocky putz. And his coach is Handley without the tranny (NYers will understand the latter). We know the jints don't make changes during the season, but if I were either of these guys, I'd be listing my house now. I remember when Bruce Mahar was the best guy on the team. We have much better now, but they are clearly mismanaged. We need a real coach, in the Parcells mold, not a milquetoast with foam in his hair. We need a GM who favors character, intelligence, heart and excellence. Players like Eli.

He'll be the QB at least 1 more year because they can't do a thing with his salary until the end of 2018. They take a huge cap hit if they release him before the 2018 season.

I suspect they'll pick a QB high and have him sit behind Eli with a clipboard for a season

Third day of the league year, this offseason, he can be cut and the cap hit won't be so bad that it shouldn't be done.

This season needs to be it, for both sides.

He put the team on his back? That's what qbs should so. Winston played better. His team won.

Everyone on this team fucking sucks. 23 points?? And we're saying an offensive player deserves adulation??

Eli was ok today. Great. 5-11 here come.

Wake me when Eli plays like a fucking bad ass qb. I haven't seen that in years. Years!

But congrats on scoring over 20 points today. We have something with the jets in common? Actually we don't we are two back of them.

Look he's a great giant but not HOF. It's ok. Cowboys and eagles have been better regular season record with about.10+ guys at that position last decade. Is what it is. So proud of all those offensive fumble recoveries in 2011 though. (Look it up)
And can we start a game off strong ?????

What do you want Eli to do when the first 2 basic running plays result in a loss of eight yards? How the hell is he supposed to start strong when his first pass is on 3rd and 18?

$18.6 million in dead money if they cut Eli then, so that's virtually impossible. They could do a June 1 cut which will be $12.4 million. Remember, Eli still has 2 years on his contract after this so all of that bonus money accelerates to the 2018 cap

To say that Eli Manning was ever the problem ignores the basic fact that the Giants have not had a rushing game worth a shit since February 2011.

Like plenty of mouth breathers want, get ready for some dark times. The issues on this team run a hell of a lot deeper than the QB and a top 5 QB pick won't solve that any time soon.

Eli deserves better honestly. JAX makes a ton of sense and I think he'd compete for a championship there.

Wake me when half the site doesn’t blame Eli because he dares to throw a 4 yard pass on 3rd and 10 when no one is open. Or perhaps when they don’t blame Eli for a tipped play by an Eagle linebacker.

You know for sure we’d have been treated to an “is Eli done?” thread if the offense didn’t score on the last drive.

So it isn't the QB's fault when he doesn't see the LBer and throws it where the LBer can get a hand on it?
Whose fault is it then?

To the larger discussion in this post, Eli has played generally well the past 5 quarters... but we are 0-4 and playing .500 ball over the last 140 games or so... not exactly awe inspiring... and the QB needs to take some of that blame. Though he can certainly share it with the GM, HC(s) and several of his teammates.

he is an average QB at this point, IMO (not great, not bad)... there has some good this season but an awful lot of bad too. fortunately today was pretty good so hopefully he is hitting his stride and the Offense can continue to be somewhat effective while the D gets their asses in gear. Maybe we can win a couple of games.

It’s no one’s fault when the other team makes a play. He is not an average quarterback. He’s a guy that’s given us two Super Bowl winning drives when he’s been given a supporting cast worth a shit. Please stop talking about Eli like he’s Brian Fucking Hoyer. The guy accounted for 300 yards and 3 touchdowns today. He threw for over 4,000 yards with plenty of touchdowns and you call him average? Eli has been on the bad end of personnel decisions since the last time he won a SB.

Is he good enough to lead a team to a championship? I say yes based on how he looked in the playoff game last year and the plays he's making this year. That should be all that matters.
He is average now
LG in NYC : 10/1/2017 9:10 pm : link
not an average career.

this is the problem trying to have a calm, realistic debate about Eli.

Everyone immediately yells about the 2 SB's.

I am talking about 2017... this year he has played 5-7 decent quarters of football out of 16. He was dreadful int he first 2 games, came on late in Philly and was good enough to win today. But he isn't doing anything exceptional as a QB.

Take the emotion away and most people would rank Eli in the 13-18 range for QB's IN 2017. I consider that average.

none of this is to say he is the biggest problem this team has... and with a better OLine and a Defense that could hold a lead, we'd likely be at least 2-2.
Eli isn't free of blame though..
Sean : 10/1/2017 9:13 pm : link
It's taken him until the 12th quarter of the season to get going & he has contributed to this poor stretch of football from mid 2012 onward. It's been a total organizational failure from Reese to Coughlin to McAdoo to Eli, etc. No one is free of blame. 33-43 in their last 76 regular season games.

Tell me 12-17 quarterbacks better than Eli Manning in 2017.
I’ll give you Rodgers, Brady, and Brees. You can argue Big Ben, Ryan, and Russell Wilson if you like. Give me 6-11 more. Please.

Also, 4 of the quarters he played without his number 1 weapon. You know what Matt Ryan did without Julio in the second half? Lost to the Bills in his dome.

The other game, his special teams gave up a punt return and his shiny new wideout dropped a 40 yard pass in his hands when the game was within 7.

Average is fucking laughable. Especially when you consider supporting cast. What other Qb is putting up points with this offense?

Only on BBI is 2012-now anywhere near Eli’s fault. From 2012-2015, his defense was atrocious. His offensive line is somewhere between pond scum and decidedly mediocre. It took 200 million dollars and a soft schedule to make this defense presentable. Give Eli Leveon Bell, Antonio Brown, the Steelers weapons, and their defense and we’re talking Super Bowl.

LG in NYC : 10/2/2017 8:34 am : link
This is a somewhat subjective exercise depending on what metric you want to use but certainly the following are up for debate (and I would suggest if you asked most football people they would give the nod to the below):

Cam Newton
Stafford
Wentz
Carr
Goff
Alex Smith
Cousins
Dak

To be clear, I have not watched any of the above as much as I watch Eli and certainly not with the same level of scrutiny... nor I am saying WITH CERTAINTY that the above are all definitely better than Eli.

But this idea being bandied about that Eli is certainly a top 7-8 QB in the league just doesn't pass muster with me. He is not terribly accurate on anything over 5 yards, can't extend plays with his legs (yesterday's TD scamper notwithstanding), throws too may INTs and until late last week was skittish in the pocket.

That's a problem - it isn't the only or the biggest problem but it isn't nothing.

By the way,I didn't come away from yesterday's game thinking badly of Eli, didn't consider him to blame for the loss... but when I see a barrage of threads like this after another loss it makes me shake my head and I feel compelled to chime in (which is my fault, no one elses).
He should stop throwing the ball right at his WRs though

He put the team on his back? That's what qbs should so. Winston played better. His team won.

Everyone on this team fucking sucks. 23 points?? And we're saying an offensive player deserves adulation??

Eli was ok today. Great. 5-11 here come.

Wake me when Eli plays like a fucking bad ass qb. I haven't seen that in years. Years!

This is an awful post.

Why? We scored 23 fucking points and all I read here is how awesome Eli was...gimme a break already. He was good. GOOD. Not great. Can he be great just once this season?

I remember a time when Eli would play and look like Goober and display poor body language and the fans and media couldn't wait to take the guy's temp every week and THAT TEAM scored 30 pts every 3rd week. Well over 20 every week. Now? Now we praise Eli when the team scores 23 fucking pts against an average team in a must win game.

I can't fucking stand this offense anymore. And any fan looking to sing the praises of anyone associated with this team is fucking lost.

Maybe we score 30 pts just once in two years. Maybe then we can sit around and praise Eli. Until then he's ordinary..
I just don't get

how any NYG fan can sit here and proclaim he's right. No one is right at this point in time.

You're gonna use yesterday as some sort of excuse to praise Eli and condemn the fans that questioned how good he is?

You're lost. He was ordinary yesterday. Not bad by any stretch. Maybe even good. Take these fucking bs stats and wipe your ass with them. I mean that in a nice way. Better yet, I will wipe my ass with them. Fuck Eli's stats. We lose. We lose and we lose some more.

You are rapidly becoming a bore with your incessant bashing...

If you think he was ordinary yesterday you need to watch more football...
Maybe it was the excess beer

But I thought Eli was pretty good yesterday?
'So is Eli still done....'

Rumors of his demise were and for some are greatly exaggerated.

...and McaDon't is a fool. Passed up yet again on an early FG. Will he never learn? You don't chase points until you have to. Same goes for 2 point conversions. How many games does he have to lose by less than three points before he gets a McaClue?
