as ugly as it appears in text, it's far worse than that when you watch the video, where you can observe his facial expressions and hear the dismissive emphasis he puts on the word "female."
Happened to catch Francesa's reaction on my way home. Â
It was predictably tone deaf - the guy never disappoints. Basically compared it to him being challenged by players when he covered NCAA basketball - happens to all media folks who never played, he said. Completely ignored the blatant sexism. His producer tried to help him, but to no avail.
are you guys seriously outraged by that comment or being sarcastic? i can't tell
i get what he's saying.
i'd have the same reaction if i took my car to the shop and they had all female mechanics. i'd be like "this is a trip, kinda funny to hear a woman talk about cam shafts and drive trains"

Bad analogy. A better one would be: you're the mechanic, and your customer is a female who's trying to explain a problem by providing some information, using a car term like "engine" in the process.
Find it hard to believe that someone in Cam's position Â
would be THAT outwardly sexist while on camera. His words are indefensible, but gotta believe that it wasn't his intention to offend that woman who asked the question.
He provided a pretty thorough and serious response after his initial offensive reaction, so it was probably a poor attempt to make light of the fact that a woman in the room asked a well thought out football question (as opposed to the non football related questions I'm sure he gets pretty regularly).
But again, there's no defense for him saying what he did, he needs to apologize.

just saying...yall sensy
If he never heard a woman ask a football question Â
like that before, maybe it was odd to him. This did not equal him saying that she should not be there asking the question. That would have been sexist. In fact, he answered it seriously. If he really were being sexist, he would have refused to answer her question. His actions were not sexist. You guys are getting your panties in a bunch over something a nothing. Now that phrase is sexist.

yea i'm with you. to be honest, i don't think i've ever heard a female reporter mentioning "physicality of routes"
How unusual it is for a reporter who asks questions about football to be female. He laughed at the entire premise. I mean, I'm going to guess that if your mom were treated this way in a store while asking about a hammer or something, you probably wouldn't just high five the clerk in agreement.

but he didn't say "its funny to hear a female talk about football"
the reporter asked about the "physicality of routes" meaning, catching balls over the middle. getting off the defender at the line of scrimmage. things that Devin Funchess was doing Sunday (not sure if you watched the game)
so, with that context. yes, it was kinda odd (in a funny way) that she asked that question. because you have to admit, 99% of questions from ALL reporters are super generic and bland
"what do you have to do to turn the season around"
"how do you keep your team motivated"
"what do you say about Eli and his leadership skills"

I kind of agree.. the way he answered the question makes me think he was kind of impressed by her asking that question.. I hope thats the case otherwise he is truly sexist..Either way he comes out looking pretty bad in the video..
Never liked Cam. Don’t like the Panthers. In fact, seeing the Panthers and Cam Newton get turned out in the Super Bowl may have been one of the most enjoyable non-NFC-East games I’ve enjoyed watching.
I wonder if there would be any outrage if - say - Aaron Rodgers stood at the podium and and answered the same question the same way: “Yeah, it’s just funny to hear a Puerto Rican talk about routes”. John Lennon wrote a song called “Woman is the [N word] of the World”. He was right then and he’s still right.

After the news conference, Rodrigue wanted to find Newton and talk about what he said. She did catch up with him briefly. The conversation, according to Rodrigue, was not taped but went something like this:
She asked the quarterback if he really didn’t think a female could understand routes.
Newton said she wasn’t really seeing specific routes when watching the game, she was just seeing if somebody was open. She argued that he didn’t know what she saw nor how hard she had studied football, and that maybe the two of them needed to have a deeper conversation.
Newton said that maybe he should have said it was funny to hear “reporters” talk about routes and that, if she actually did know about them, then she knew more than most reporters. Then he gestured toward the locker room, still filled with her colleagues.
Rodrigue ended by asking Newton – whom she had introduced herself to on the first day of her employment with The Observer in October 2016 – if he knew her name after she had covered the team almost every day for the past year.
Newton said he did not.
“Jourdan Rodrigue, Charlotte Observer,” she said, and then walked away.

She really told him.. Sounds like this is being blown a little out of proportion.
Not sticking up for his poor choice of words but you really can't say anything anymore. Everyone is so sensitive. You're bound to upset someone.
It isn't just about the words. This is one of those cases where a picture paints a thousand of them.
I'll just put it this way. if a co-worker of mine acted exactly the same way Newton does in that video after I asked a question about something technical, I remove that person from the list of people I want to deal with.
If she came back with "it's funny to hear meathead quarterbacks try to form sentences and show an inability to use adverbs correctly. Mr. Newton I believe you meant that 'Fun is from Detroit and we know he wants this win extremely badLY
Everyone step out of their PC responses for 2 seconds... Â
Sure, male football fans outnumber female football fans, probably by a ratio of 50-1. That doesn't mean a female sports reporter asking about routes is so absurd it's funny.

"Maybe he's right and I don't know anything about football, because he's been my fantasy starting QB and killed me for 3 out of 4 weeks"
but that strengthens Cams point. cause if your wife was knowledgeable about football, she wouldnt have made Cam her starting QB. knowing he was coming off a late shoulder surgery and hadnt practiced or played in the preseason.
I think female reporters in the lockerroom are still at least somewhat stigmatic. I think most of us would be surprised if many of the women we know asked an intelligent football question, but wouldn't it be a really pleasant surprise? To be so dismissive and shitty about a question that is probably more well thought-out than about 90% of the questions these guys get based solely on gender really says a lot about Cam Newton.
Maybe she can be psychical on her routes with route 9
(But yeah, in all honesty that was a pretty dumb useless question she did ask)
I didn't think so. Especially if the player in question has been struggling with physicality in routes (she's a beat reporter, so there may be a theme that's developed since camp, or more recently - we don't know).
And sometimes questions are somewhat flat, and even dumb. But! As a reporter who's been in locker rooms after college and professional sports teams, an occasional dumb question may lead to additional talk that helps a story, or even spurs a different one.
Again, as a former sportswriter, it's mind-numbingly tough with many pro athletes to get them to say anything outside the Bull Durham bus ride tutorial, so anything that helps break them out of that mold is a start, at times.
I know zero about this reporter, but on its face, the question doesn't strike me as incredibly outlandish.
like using this reasoning when people fuck up, don't you?

Who call Cam Newton a scum bag, even bothered to research all the good deeds on this guy s resume in regards to reaching out to others.
Guy makes a politically incorrect statement, and all of a sudden that out weighs all the good he has done.
What a world.
I think I heard something similar about JoePa. You know, that guy molded so many football players into great men, but aid a serial pedophile and that outweighs all the good that's been done.
What a world.
RE: Everyone step out of their PC responses for 2 seconds... Â
More right if referring to most beat writers not understanding routes, route trees, etc. Many of these guys and girls are more concerned with getting entertaining blurbs for online blogs and gaining likes and clicks. Just the way it's become.
It's why BBI salivates at the first sight of an actual article posted here that goes into great detail about anything "inside" the game. Myself included in that crowd.

How many times have we heard that Ted Bundy was a "nice guy."
can't make up the fact that a whole segment of Central PA still worships a man who implicitly (and possibly expicitly) allowed pedophelia to occur. Why? Because he was a football coach?
I hardly think getting a smacked back a little in the press because you make an idiotic comment is outrage.
Exactly.
I don't see much outrage. Just a lot of heads shaking at what an idiot he is. OH WAIT! He's a millionaire who spends money to help people and causes. I may not be able to say he's an idiot.
using his platform to protest inequalities in the country (Cam put his head down and raised his fist after one of his TDs last week... after doing his superman celebration, of course).
Yet he goes and does this?
He's a fraud and everything he does is motivated by getting attention - not out of the goodness of his heart

He answered her question in a thoughtful manner so was not dismissive of it at all. If he were dismissive, he would not have answered it or he would have given a non-answer. Not sure how his answer was either shitty and dismissive.

which is why i have been saying this for weeks now... these players that kneel and sit don't really know why they are doing these actions. Colin K knew why and stood his ground. these guys are just doing this ala "The ice bucket challenge"

How does that strengthen his point given that one is a casual fan the other's job is to know Football? You really going far to try to justify your argument here
RE: Cam gets all bent out of shape by someone judging his work as a QB Â
Everyone knows what a route is in football. My grandmother could tell you what a WR route is. My 8 year old cousin could tell you. He's surprised a female reporter is talking about routes? What an asshole. That's like saying "hmm it's funny to hear a female talking about zone vs man coverage." It's not like it's fucking rocket science.
Everyone knows what a route is in football. My grandmother could tell you what a WR route is. My 8 year old cousin could tell you. He's surprised a female reporter is talking about routes?
Exactly! I mean, if I'm shopping for cars with my wife and she asks the salesman if a particular model is a four-cylinder or V6, and he responds exactly like Cam does in this video: "That's funny, a female talking about cylinders. That's funny," I'm going to be overcome by a strong temptation to punch that fucker.
that's not to say that there can't be a sense of legitimize, impressed surprise when a female exhibits knowledge in an area women typically don't. Shit, movies have been mining the whole "that person's knowledge of a subject is surprising because you underestimated him/her" since the dawn of time. We've all seen My Cousin Vinny and Good Will Hunting.
Typically, the person doing the underestimating in these scenes is not the person you sympathize with.
that this reporter was talking about routes - how about the dozens of other male reporters who don't know shit asking stupid questions? Did he call them out too? No, he didn't.
Just because he does some charity work to enhance his brand doesn't mean he's some great guy like the Paterno apologist claims. He's been filthy since his college days. He's a low character, me-first player who put his foot in his mouth again.

I'm still waiting for him to reach "icon" status. He sort of promised that day would come.

Eh, I think he's been a smarmy douchebag from day one. The good deeds are outdone by the pouting, self-aggrandizing and wholly inappropriate comments. He remains a douchebag.
Maybe I'm confusing you with those who said he was an asshole or mentally not all there (personal attacks). If you did not share that opinion I apologize.
comes off as an adult stuck in 13 year old cool-dude, big man on campus, exploiting or at least cannot talk to women type, mode. i.e. at that age now, a sociopath scumbag.
sheesh, what he 'donates' is not at all relevant, that's like 'indulgence payments', which I though was over a long time ago.
You don't think the situation generally makes him look like a dickhead?
Not just treating a reporter like they're a no-name, but treating someone with whom you have had interaction with in the past (very likely more than once, or twice, or three times...) like you have no idea who they are?
I'm not saying he needs to have everyone's names memorized (though not out of the question for a group of people who cover the team throughout the year), but I think it gives a small window into how he carries himself on a day to day basis at his job, with arrogance and his nose in the air.
ethically its -exactly- the same as if he had said Â
Has been a complete phony from the word jump. All the way back to when he arrived at Auburn under sketchy circumstances. I’m glad he didn’t apologize cause the fraud wouldn’t have meant it anyway.
He had a rare moment where he dropped the phony facade and let you in to his true nature, cause that’s what he thinks and he didn’t think it was wrong to say it, he thought he was being cute which it was he was kinda chuckling when he said it.
This isn’t something that will help him in th long run financially with endorsement , Dannin is the first they won’t be the last after the fallout from this.
He has got a history of immature behavior and at this point he’s at that age where he is what he is and is going to be which is a phony fraud on a number of levels, don’t be surprised if stories start filtering out on what a dispicable human being he truly is from the press
Cam is 100% wrong to say it, however the backlash is a little high but totally expected these days and warranted to a degree.
The reason why it's not extremely serious is because Cam Newton did not Genuinely try to insult that female reporter, he did it out of complete and utter childish, immature, studipidty, then followed to answer the question eloquently.
Guy will never hear the end of this, he's very stupid, but I don't feel bad for the female reporter at all. Also I don't consider Cam Newton to be a bad man at all, in fact I believe outside of a handful or two of dumb petty childish things, he's been about as outstanding a professional citizen as you can find in today's NFL

RE: just found out she had racist tweets 4/5 years ago... Â
There are so many issues on here to be "wow" about, too.
No, I don't think it should be surprising that a woman asked an intelligent football question. Or watches football and can speak intelligently about it. BBI has plenty of female posters. I am surprised that, in this day and age, Newton was thrown off by it. Have the Panthers really not had any other women beat writers?
It should not be surprising that a woman could explain in detail what she is looking for in a car in terms of specs and performance. Or what seems to be the problem when bringing it into the shop.
I don't see what's happened as an extraordinary amount of outrage. It was a stupid remark. He did lose his Dannon endorsement and it was because he did offend women who do make up the majority of the shoppers of yogurt. I actually find it more surprising that people are taken aback when women like, follow, write and read about sports. I would take watching sports any day of the week over stupid reality TV - sports are the ultimate reality TV, IMV.
My father raised a tomboy and I have spent my entire career in the construction industry so perhaps my experiences differ a bit from other women but I certainly know enough women who talk sports, intelligently, all the time, that I am genuinely surprised by Newton's response.
racist things does not excuse Cam from his comments, or his obligation to issue an apology.
Sure... you're right.
But she sure should lose a lot of sympathy. After all, she seemed pretty proud of her racist father who was being 'super racist' as they passed through some Navajo territory.

Two of them are about driving through a state with her dad, who is "being super racist." Armed with a general sense of how humor and sarcasm work, I can tell that she's not exactly admiring her dad's racism as much as she's rolling her eyes at it.
The NASCAR tweet looks like a quote of said dad, to provide an example of his eye-rolling racism.

Why? So one's racist past can't catch up to them? So that Cam can be slammed for his sexist remarks... but she can't because no one would know about her racist tweets?
Back when it was all about slamming Cam dozens of posters were participating in this thread? Now that the reporters' past tweets have come out... *crickets*.

But since you asked, it's actually the opposite, a. so people didn't have the ability to say all that stupid sh-t to the masses, and b. so the social media PC mobs couldn't rabble rouse major companies to take away endorsements or get people fired over fairly minor sh-t.

Regarding a, as has been said many times lately, I'd rather people get their stupidity out in the open for everyone to see so that I can KNOW whether your a racist POS (like her and her family) rather than not know.

racist things does not excuse Cam from his comments, or his obligation to issue an apology.
Sure... you're right.
But she sure should lose a lot of sympathy. After all, she seemed pretty proud of her racist father who was being 'super racist' as they passed through some Navajo territory.
Agreed. And if Cam Newton were smart (which as of now is a bit in doubt), he'd use the opportunity to take the higher road and make an apology without any equivocations. It would go a long way in fixing this mess for himself, and maybe even create some productive dialogue about both sexism and racism.
You're really more inclined to read that thing as actual admiration for her dad being racist the whole ride home, instead of being an "oh, out-of-touch dads" observation? I'd stay away from all Facebook posts, tweets, Yelp reviews, etc. from 20 and 30 somethings if that's the case.
I already noted that it's not a good look and that it makes me sad that people suck, but if you'd like a more explicit sound bite, sounds like her dad is a complete asshole and she should be ashamed of herself for condoning/applauding that stuff.
Actually I'm looking for some of that name-calliing that Cam was subjected to on this thread. I want to hear some 'That BITCH!', 'That cumbucket POS!'... ya know.. the good stuff!

Yeah.. I don't see that happening. And truth be told, I don't want him to if he doesn't truly feel that way.
this is just kind of how wry sarcasm works these days Â
Put it this way: have you honestly seen very many posts from people that express an earnest admiration for someone being racist? "I hung out with Joe and he's the best... I love his racist jokes!" "Good times driving with my friend, one of the funnies racists I know."
I can't even believe I'm trying to explain this shit.
The out of control PC culture of the country, as well as the power of social media mobs.
Eh... it's my opinion that people always talk about the country being too PC or not when it suits their purpose. Some of the very same people who are slamming Newton for what he said are the very same people who yell 'The Pussification of America continues!!!' for instance....

Truth be told... I can't believe it either. Again, guess it's a matter of perspective.
But to answer your question... yes, I have... and usually it's because that person is racist too.

to talk about themselves and other people? Usually they gussy it up with terms like "Un-PC."
Whatever... I'll just maintain that knowing how people tweet about everything they see these days and often do so with sarcasm, I think it's pretty fuckin safe to assume that it's in the spirit of the eye-rolling tweet, and not literally "Having fun with my dad! Racist jokes all the way home!"
work and all... it's just funny to me how a certain person can pass off something ignorant he said about women as 'locker room talk' and a sizable segment of society is ok with it... but let Cam Newton express surprise that a woman is knowledgeable about football routes... and he's an asshole that should lose endorsements!

and speaking of not going for fumbles, and since Boomer Esiason was ripping Eli the other day...
I'll never forget when they were doing the halftime, or postgame, show when Drew Brees tore up his shoulder going for a fumble.... But after showing the highlight and Boomer clearly said, "Yeah, I might have gone for that one"... there was a long post and all of them were looking at him, and maybe it was Marino said "did you just say you MIGHT have gone for it?!" Cut to commercial.
Pardon my typos in that last post, I was distracted. Â
Just a curious question. What was the score when he didn't go for that ball? For some reason I think that was in the final 20 seconds of the game and Cam just thought "fuck it"
being fired from Dannon is pretty harsh and probably unnecessary. They probably assume a lot of their customers actually watched the video, where he comes across far, far worse than just the words present. I doubt many did see it.
How many victim points does she lose here? It's hard to keep score.
She's really not... she wrote articles expressing support for players kneeling, which I doubt a racist would do and certainly is more meaningful than "hey guys, get a load of my dad" tweets.
DeMarcus Ware, a stand up gentlemen and hall of fame player who was literally fighting off Kalil to dive onto the ball, get a hand on it and keep it alive for Denver.

You can be in favor of 1st amendment rights and still be a racist.
The difference to me is that Cam is coming from a place of immaturity. Like others have said, it's like he thought he was being cute by pointing out how a girl could like football. I don't think it was out of viciousness or cruelty that he said what he did. But, it does reveal sexism of a kind that is almost elementary to get oneself grow beyond.
Her tweets on the other hand are a little more complicated because they deal less with stereotypes and more with language. I agree with santacruz that she was being somewhat sarcastic referring to her dad's racism. In some ways, it sounds like she's pointing out her dad's racism in order to separate her father - a person she seemingly loves - from his language and sense of humor - which she abhors (thus calling it racist), so that she can condemn the racism without having to confront her father directly. Instead, she posts on social media. Not a bright idea, but understandable.
On the other hand, using the n-word is virtually indefensible. She really needs to apologize for that. She used it in a joking way rather than a demeaning one, which makes the mistake of a certain kind rather than another - worse - one, but she should know better than that.

Yeah, it's definitely a questionable tweet. The thing is though, it's so starkly different from the other random tweets of hers that it looks like she's quoting someone else, especially since it follows an account name and a :. I mean, it doesn't even make any sense. What the hell does THATS 10 TIMES TRILLER mean?
Why? So one's racist past can't catch up to them? So that Cam can be slammed for his sexist remarks... but she can't because no one would know about her racist tweets?
My post was in general.
Regarding b, do you feel like Dannon unfairly removed their endorsement from CAM? You didn't seem to have a problem with that (or if you did I missed it and apologize in advance) then. Not to mention, racist tweets are anything but minor shit if you ask me.
It is an overreaction by Dannon but maybe they were just looking for an excuse to go with someone else. He should have been more careful with what he said but he gave her a real answer. He didn't answer her question in a condescending manner!
Are trying to protect/maximize.He's a paid spokesperson, and this is negative attention. I don't blame them at all. I don't fault companies at all for being quick to sever these relationships.
If Dannon was found to be treating female employees unfairly and Cam decided that he no longer wanted to be associated with them, we'd be applauded for that decision.
Thats a knee-jerk reaction IMO. The US is PC crazy.
I called it this morning at around 9am. Also, this is not knee jerk. He has not been the best ambassador and he is not bringing much to the table from a brand perspective and if anything having the brand hitched to him now could do more damage than good. Think how many new consumers they may get because of the swift action and position they took on this. It is actually a marketing win
he clearly meant to belittle a woman asking him an honest question, one that he would have answered normally if a man asked it. He's a moron, it's on him not the media.

well, I understand all day media channels need something to fill space, at least this is real news and you don't need any journalism skill to report on it.
and when times change and the joke is dated then it stops. I don't get the indignation as if someone killed their child. Everyone is trying to be perfect.
Can someone point me to all of these beautiful women Â
Who can break down a route tree? I'd marry them in a heartbeat. Seems like the "fans" you find at games just wanna look cute and don't know whose jersey they're wearing...
I've noticed the trend where a lot of women young girls tend to wear away jerseys at games because I guess they like getting yelled at and degraded by men. Sexist comments mostly, I guess it turns them on for whatever weird reason they seek out any attention.
RE: Men make fun of women and women make fun of men Â

Yep. Like men don't get ripped on out in the open by women ever lol
ask why are they all over Cam Newton's one-off bullshit faux pax, yet nary a whisper on Harvey Weinstein, the Hollywood scumbag who actually sexually harrassed women.

he was suprised how well a woman knew about computers, I would not care. If she told me that the owner of the company, asked her to come massage his naked body, that would anger me. You twits should worry about real issues not stuff that has ZERO impact.
Better than answering what the ratio of away fans Â

WHy does it have to be one or the other, you twit? Why can Weinstein be a creul horrible man and Newton a moron?
Some of you people are ridiculous.
RE: So now Cam is being punished for one off the cuff comment Â
he was suprised how well a woman knew about computers, I would not care.
Well, as usual, it depends.
I attend meetings with our engineers and developers all the time, and sometimes I utter a technical term that registers a bit of surprise on their face. Usually, there are several layers of subtle humor involved, some of it even self-deprecating on their part: "Wow, someone else actually knows about our nerdy shit!" Everyone departs from the meeting just fine.
What has never happened to me is an engineer acting exactly like Cam, smirking as I'm still talking after uttering a technical phrase, and then laughing: "That's funny. A documentation writer talking about OAuth tokens. That's just funny." In that case? Again, I'd want to punch that fucker.
to locker room talk seem misguided since probably more than half of the country disapproved of that behavior.
I'm fairly certain the number of people in the USA offended by the "bus talk" vastly outnumber those upset at Cam's.
By probably at least a magnitude of 20.
LOL! Yeah... ok.
I won't go any further since I don't want either one of us to get banned. I'll just leave you with the last word on it.
Are you rally implying that more people are offended by Cam's comments than those offended by a truly racist comment? Not crap that she tweeted. That's stupid crap that hinted at racism.
I suggest you move to a more enlightened part of the Country if that's the case. Come to North Jersey where culture, tolerance and open mindedness thrive.
the whole N word thing to me is complete nonsense Â
Black people have had a huge huge positive impact on pop culture. They have left a mark all over music and Hollywood. Some of the funniest, innovative and inspiring stand up comedians are or were black.
And they ALL USE THE N WORD! All the time! And not only do they use the N word, they use in ways that lessen its derogatory nature. Black people with influence have gone out of their way to vault the N word. They use it as a term of endearment. They use it as a term of brotherhood. They use it comically. They use it often. They use it publicly.
I just don't get it. The word gets thrown around so often these days in so many innocuous ways, yet it still angers, and surprises black people when a white person uses Ni**A --which in and of itself is NOT Ni**ER--and still everyone gets up n arms about it.
Here's an idea.... stop saying it. Everyone. Just stop. MAybe then the white chick trying to sound cool won't say it anymore.
the word is awful. It's very existence conjures up the very worst moments in mankind's history. It's ignorant. It's hurtful. It's evil. But the word has been softened over the last 20 years or so. White people want to say ni**a because it's "kind of" cool --it's hip. I know it's a slippery slope but I think there can be some room for interpretation--or maybe not.
It's just another one of life's many double standards. I just can't label someone racist because they tweeted ni**a. I'd say they are pretty stupid at the very least.
Are you rally implying that more people are offended by Cam's comments than those offended by a truly racist comment? Not crap that she tweeted. That's stupid crap that hinted at racism.
I wouldn't even say that. What she tweeted was stuff that referenced the word racism.
oh, and she re-tweeted this from a parody account Â
can we stop giving people so much credit for heart felt apologies while we're at it???
Not to shit all over you, Santa, but we have morphed into a society that places wayyyyyyy too much credence on saying the right things at the right times. It doesn't take much to fake nice. IT doesn't take much other than an ability to lie. Cam is or isn't a dooshbag--who really knows. His body language doesn't endear himself to many, but that apology video should be stricken from the record when we write the book on this guy's character many years from now. Follow the fucking money. Wow he said sorry...big deal. I've said sorry before too...and I didn't mean a lick of it.
Cam will hopefully be judged on his actions. Not some horse crap video that he only made when the backlash hit him right in the face.

Geez... try to leave shit alone...
Look, all I know is Cam has lost endorsements and been called every name in the book... despite the good things for charities he's done in the past. I'm not the biggest CAm fan in the world, but I also know realize that sometimes even good people says dumb things. Which is what he did. Meanwhile, the reporter has been found to have tweeted racist comments and all I've been seeing are excuses as to why what she did isn't all that bad. I don't have to move anywhere to see the double-standard. What Cam said was stupid... what she tweeted was stupid... but only a few want to see it that way. If you ask me, her tweets were much worse than what he said, but by the insults hurled his way by so many, it appears my thoughts are in the minority. Meanwhile the very same people who are condemning Cam for his words are some of the same people who still voted for a guy who had the 'bus talk'. Go figure.
As for your rant about the 'n word'... it's just amazing to me why it pisses some off that there's just ONE word that black people do not want be called by anyone of ANY race and yet it appears that it's that one word that everyone feels like they either should be ok to say or that no one should say it. How about this... it's not up to YOU to decide what's ok for me to be called. Period. In some cases, some black people seem to have no problem with someone they know and trust using that word with regards to them... but if they say it to another black person... prepared to face whatever consequences may arise from that decision. There are plenty of black people who won't tolerate being called that word no matter how or who (even other black people) calls them it. So it's not just universally accepted that it's ok to use by all black people despite what you may think.
You can say you 'get it' all you want... but it doesn't appear to be the case. I hear women all the time refer to themselves and other women as 'bitches'... and yet if someone else where to call them a bitch, they're ready to throw hands. Not the exact same thing I know but, IMO, it's close. IMO, black people have started using it as a way of taking 'ownership' of the word. WE have decided that if another black person uses it... as long as it's a term of endearment (or just not as an insult)... it's fine. Like Chris Rock once said, "I love black people, but I hate niggas!".
Fact is you don't 'get it' because you 'won't get it' as to why I have more of a problem with her tweets than what Newton said.
if you don't mind, I'd like to go ahead and leave this topic alone as they've both apologized and as far as I'm concerned I've moved on. Maybe you can too?
This site is jumping the shark with its constant pissing matches Â
What do we specialize in rudeness here? Go judge your mother or father the same way. The cyber bulling and hypocrisy is nauseating .
We can't discuss politics because of the ugliness that it brings. Now we can barely talk sports
Meanwhile, the reporter has been found to have tweeted racist comments and all I've been seeing are excuses as to why what she did isn't all that bad.
Not from me... I've been denying that her comments aren't actually racist at all. Shit, she didn't even talk about a race in any of them. She just typed the word "racist" and forwarded a tweet from a parody account.
Again, if that's the standard for what exposes a racist these days, I'm fucked for having spammed all my friends with Onion shit like this.

If that’s what you choose to believe, fine. I don’t really care to try to change your mind. This has been a very petty ‘story’ to begin with and am not really interested in continuing on with the topic. As far as I’m concorned they both said/done some dumb shit and have both apologized. So I’m done discussing this topic and would like to move on... please?
That's a stupid interpretation of her words. Like, really... saying the word 'racist' doesn't make the speaker of a sentence racist, unless this sentence is also an example of me being a racist.
Are we really taking tweets from years ago as any kind of relevant Â
I used to try to shift blame off me when I was a kid if I did something wrong by ratting out someone else for misbehaving. But that was when I 8 years old. Why are adults doing this?
After careful thought I understand that my word choice was extremely degrading and hurtful to women and, to be honest, that was not my intentions.
If you are a person who took offense to what I said, I sincerely apologize to you.
I'm a man who tries to be a positive role model in my community and tries to use my platform to inspire others.
I take ownership to everything that comes with that and what I did was extremely unacceptable.
I'm a father to two beautiful daughters and at their age I try to instill in them that they can do and be anything that they want to be.
The fact that during this whole process I've already lost sponsors and fans, I realize that the joke really is on me.
I've learned a valuable lesson from this. To the young people who see this, I hope that you learn something from this as well.
Don't be like me. Be better than me.
To the reporters, to the journalists, to the moms, supermoms, to the daughters, sisters and the women all around the world, I sincerely apologize and hope that you can find the kindness in your heart to forgive me.'
The one thing I can't stand when famous people make public apologies is when they say the words "I made a mistake". Cam didn't do that, which is why I thought it was a sincere apology. If he says something offensive like that again we can all kill him for it, but I think it's time to move on.
Where the hell have you been? It's 2017, bro. Making up excuses and finger pointing is what is acceptable and everyone has an excuse in queue for their mishaps or and when they're called out on their bullshit. Who the hell exactly owns up to anything, when you clearly never have to anymore? The key is to deny and blame others for your woes.

Scam Newton at it's again
Grow up.
America. 2017.
He quit in the Super Bowl. That should follow him forever. I wouldn't want him on the Giants for free.
LOL, that was Joey Nickels.
I was at a Super Bowl party hosted by a big Panthers fan when that Cam fumble play happened. I thought the dude was going to have a heart attack.
We are talking about routes.
Marshall on Montana. Or MOM
i get what he's saying.
i'd have the same reaction if i took my car to the shop and they had all female mechanics. i'd be like "this is a trip, kinda funny to hear a woman talk about cam shafts and drive trains"
thats just me tho
i get what he's saying.

You should show yourself out now. It's for your own good. You don't seem very bright

Bad analogy. A better one would be: you're the mechanic, and your customer is a female who's trying to explain a problem by providing some information, using a car term like "engine" in the process.
Doubling-down.
What a jackass.

i have a masters degree. so i'm somewhat smart, maybe.
just saying...yall sensy
yea i'm with you. to be honest, i don't think i've ever heard a female reporter mentioning "physicality of routes"
speak english

So his take here is less than surprising.
Sadly, I think he might be in the Charlotte area, too.
but he didn't say "its funny to hear a female talk about football"
the reporter asked about the "physicality of routes" meaning, catching balls over the middle. getting off the defender at the line of scrimmage. things that Devin Funchess was doing Sunday (not sure if you watched the game)
so, with that context. yes, it was kinda odd (in a funny way) that she asked that question. because you have to admit, 99% of questions from ALL reporters are super generic and bland
"what do you have to do to turn the season around"
"how do you keep your team motivated"
"what do you say about Eli and his leadership skills"
So his take here is less than surprising.
Sadly, I think he might be in the Charlotte area, too.
boy you ALWAYS have something negative to say. ALWAYS
why are you like that?
and stop lieing
why are you like that?
I detest fucking idiots. Especially ones with a masters degree who can't fucking spell lying.
I kind of agree.. the way he answered the question makes me think he was kind of impressed by her asking that question.. I hope thats the case otherwise he is truly sexist..Either way he comes out looking pretty bad in the video..

riceneggs supported Greg Hardy and pretty much blamed the situation on a money-grubbing woman.

Probably shouldn't be talking about a Master's degree if you can't spell "lying" correctly, hombre.

i thought it was master's degree (with an apostrophe)
no?
I wonder if there would be any outrage if - say - Aaron Rodgers stood at the podium and and answered the same question the same way: “Yeah, it’s just funny to hear a Puerto Rican talk about routes”. John Lennon wrote a song called “Woman is the [N word] of the World”. He was right then and he’s still right.

ehhh. thats a stretch
can i ask you this question....
is it funny to hear a female talk about the physicality of certain routes?
(But yeah, in all honesty that was a pretty dumb useless question she did ask)
What an idiot Cam is.
Also, got to love him celebrating when he is winning and pouting like a little baby when shit doesn't go his way.
“Jourdan Rodrigue, Charlotte Observer,” she said, and then walked away.
but he didn't say "its funny to hear a female talk about football"
Lol that's true, he just said -- twice -- that it's funny to hear a female talk about routes, laughing and smirking the entire time.
Touche?

She really told him.. Sounds like this is being blown a little out of proportion.
Not sticking up for his poor choice of words but you really can't say anything anymore. Everyone is so sensitive. You're bound to upset someone.
I'll just put it this way. if a co-worker of mine acted exactly the same way Newton does in that video after I asked a question about something technical, I remove that person from the list of people I want to deal with.
Sure, male football fans outnumber female football fans, probably by a ratio of 50-1. That doesn't mean a female sports reporter asking about routes is so absurd it's funny.
Good for her.. Cam is a douche.
but that strengthens Cams point. cause if your wife was knowledgeable about football, she wouldnt have made Cam her starting QB. knowing he was coming off a late shoulder surgery and hadnt practiced or played in the preseason.
(joke)
What did you do with the old FakeDannyHeep?
Someone call security.
Guy makes a politically incorrect statement, and all of a sudden that out weighs all the good he has done.
What a world.

I think I heard something similar about JoePa. You know, that guy molded so many football players into great men, but aid a serial pedophile and that outweighs all the good that's been done.
What a world.

How many times have we heard that Ted Bundy was a "nice guy."

bahahahaha ... you're a tool. And probably a "nice guy" too.
LINE DRIVE, CENTER FIELD. Over his head!!!
Isn't everything, these days?
Exactly.
I don't see much outrage. Just a lot of heads shaking at what an idiot he is. OH WAIT! He's a millionaire who spends money to help people and causes. I may not be able to say he's an idiot.
But in true bbi fashion, you and beezer, not really having any legitimate comeback to my original point, do what you do so well:
Yell real loud, call names, change the subject and attack the integrity of a person you know nothing about.
For a guy who often makes some good points, your response to my post is just stupid and typical.
You want to defend a comment relating Newton to Bundy, but attack me for pointing out the fact that he has done many good things.
Well thought out my friend.
america is fucked.
Yet he goes and does this?
He's a fraud and everything he does is motivated by getting attention - not out of the goodness of his heart
That you still defended him even after the most recent evidence?
Am I getting that wrong? Is that attacking your "integrity", or is it pointing out something that is pretty well evident in your posts about him?
Please enlighten me.
He then goes and judges a reporters work due to her sex.
Brilliant on Cam's part. Absolutely brilliant

You really going far to try to justify your argument here
He then goes and judges a reporters work due to her sex.

Excellent point. He plays the "you judge me by my color" while judging someone else based on gender
No matter how hard you try to spin it, it won t.
I should know better than to ever make a counter pt to some of you guys. You can t seem to handle opposing points of view without making it personal.
Weird.
Today: Cam is misunderstood and does charity.
K.
That's a good point.
Hooters requires women to dress skimpy, which is degrading in itself, right?
fellas, lets all eat lunch at Hooters today and tell these managers to make these girls put some clothes on
Typically, the person doing the underestimating in these scenes is not the person you sympathize with.
Just because he does some charity work to enhance his brand doesn't mean he's some great guy like the Paterno apologist claims. He's been filthy since his college days. He's a low character, me-first player who put his foot in his mouth again.
Weird.
Really? Who is?
One has nothing to do with the other.

I'm still waiting for him to reach "icon" status. He sort of promised that day would come.

Hasn't he walked out of some press conferences when asked a tough question and done some with a towel over his head when answering tough questions?
Considering he just insulted the gender that makes up the majority of their customer base...
Guy makes a politically incorrect statement, and all of a sudden that out weighs all the good he has done.

Eh, I think he's been a smarmy douchebag from day one. The good deeds are outdone by the pouting, self-aggrandizing and wholly inappropriate comments. He remains a douchebag.
In fact I have stated repeatedly the Giants are not better without him.
On this thread Newton has been called a scum bag. I just felt it would be fair to point out for a scum bag he has been pretty generous.
If you can't see that these two subjects have nothing in common, well there is just not much point in discussing the matter further with you.
and he is losing endorsement deals over it.
we are truly a soft nation if this is where we choose to put our energy.
sheesh, what he 'donates' is not at all relevant, that's like 'indulgence payments', which I though was over a long time ago.
Its exactly like that.
The reporters ability to understand the game has ZERO to do with her sex, and in this day and age one should know better.
She may well understand the game better than many of us...including staff members! ;-0
Just as your' shade or hair has ZERO to do with your language of choice.

I realize she likely didn't mean it derogatorily but that word has no place in her vernacular.
Sure... you're right.
But she sure should lose a lot of sympathy. After all, she seemed pretty proud of her racist father who was being 'super racist' as they passed through some Navajo territory.

Ha, I just looked at her scandalous tweets.

Agreed. And if Cam Newton were smart (which as of now is a bit in doubt), he'd use the opportunity to take the higher road and make an apology without any equivocations. It would go a long way in fixing this mess for himself, and maybe even create some productive dialogue about both sexism and racism.

Feel free to hold onto that opinion santa....
As you can already see... not many.
And with that... I'm out.
I'm fairly certain the number of people in the USA offended by the "bus talk" vastly outnumber those upset at Cam's.
By probably at least a magnitude of 20.
I don't care if you throw for 500,000 yards and 5,000 TDs in your career. There is no getting over that.
They were down 6 points with 4 minutes left. Unimaginable.
Just a curious question. What was the score when he didn't go for that ball? For some reason I think that was in the final 20 seconds of the game and Cam just thought "fuck it"
Compare that effort to Eli Manning's on the Tyree play, where the circumstances were more dire.
She's really not... she wrote articles expressing support for players kneeling, which I doubt a racist would do and certainly is more meaningful than "hey guys, get a load of my dad" tweets.

You can be in favor of 1st amendment rights and still be a racist.
Before getting labeled on one side or the other, both parties are pretty dumb for their comments/tweets.
Lastly, found out this morning there is a definition of "routes" on Urban Dictionary that I never knew of.
On the other hand, using the n-word is virtually indefensible. She really needs to apologize for that.
You can be in favor of 1st amendment rights and still be a racist.

It is an overreaction by Dannon but maybe they were just looking for an excuse to go with someone else. He should have been more careful with what he said but he gave her a real answer. He didn't answer her question in a condescending manner!
When will we stop looking for reasons to crush people, and just let things slide and try to get along.
If Dannon was found to be treating female employees unfairly and Cam decided that he no longer wanted to be associated with them, we'd be applauded for that decision.
I called it this morning at around 9am. Also, this is not knee jerk. He has not been the best ambassador and he is not bringing much to the table from a brand perspective and if anything having the brand hitched to him now could do more damage than good. Think how many new consumers they may get because of the swift action and position they took on this. It is actually a marketing win
stupid thing said by a man-child, but it was on the news the whole day and when it wasn't it was scrolling on the bottom?
well, I understand all day media channels need something to fill space, at least this is real news and you don't need any journalism skill to report on it.
I've noticed the trend where a lot of women young girls tend to wear away jerseys at games because I guess they like getting yelled at and degraded by men. Sexist comments mostly, I guess it turns them on for whatever weird reason they seek out any attention.
Yep. Like men don't get ripped on out in the open by women ever lol
I always yell to Kim at games, I'm like what the hell was that? For the Lions game. She shook her head in disgust.

What the hell is this?
WHy does it have to be one or the other, you twit? Why can Weinstein be a creul horrible man and Newton a moron?
Some of you people are ridiculous.
When will we stop looking for reasons to crush people, and just let things slide and try to get along.
And that's what I meant in regards to social media. It's lame.

It's just another one of life's many double standards. I just can't label someone racist because they tweeted ni**a. I'd say they are pretty stupid at the very least.

I wouldn't even say that. What she tweeted was stuff that referenced the word racism.
Which is sort of like me being called a racist in the future when someone finds out how frequently I forwarded The Onion's Herbert Kornfeld columns.

We can't discuss politics because of the ugliness that it brings. Now we can barely talk sports

Oh, I definitely agree. I'm simply saying that he surprised and impressed me. It's the only time I've seen him talk into a camera with repulsing me.
It would be like if Trump suddenly regales his TV audience with an eloquent, improvised dissertation on Voltaire.
It's a common practice. It's culturally good. The offending group having to hear it and not be able to say it is the world's smallest payback.

If that’s what you choose to believe, fine. I don’t really care to try to change your mind. This has been a very petty ‘story’ to begin with and am not really interested in continuing on with the topic. As far as I’m concorned they both said/done some dumb shit and have both apologized. So I’m done discussing this topic and would like to move on... please?
nope, threads over.
I used to try to shift blame off me when I was a kid if I did something wrong by ratting out someone else for misbehaving. But that was when I 8 years old. Why are adults doing this?
