Tight End Evan Engram

Postgame vs. Chargers, October 8, 2017

Q: Have you heard anything about wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr.’s injury?

A: No.

Q: Is 0-5 shocking?

A: Yeah, it’s disappointing.

Q: How difficult was the final drive when there was only one wide receiver available and the tight ends are basically playing wide receiver?

A: Just rolling with the punches. Just had to do it, had to step up.

Q: Have you ever been in a game like that, where so many receivers got injured?

A: Not like our top, top receivers, no. I’ve never seen that before.

Q: How tough is it mentally to try to forget about the injuries while you’re trying to come back in the game?

A: I mean, it ‘s tough. A lot of people, our guys, the three tight ends, got thrown in the fire. We had a shot to win, so we were ready to go. It just didn’t happen.

Q: How close were you to Beckham when he got injured?

A: I was on the other side [of the field]. He went down and I knew it wasn’t good. Just the other team waving for help. I was on the other side, so I just dropped and prayed for him.

Q: Did you hear anything, or could you just tell the injury was bad by players’ reactions?

A: Yeah, I didn’t hear anything, I wasn’t close enough to really see. I just knew it wasn’t good.

Q: Did you hear Beckham yelling?

A: Yeah, he was upset. He was in pain. It was tough.

Q: How tough was the Beckham injury, after having three receivers already get injured before him?

A: Sucks. I’ve never seen that before, I’ve never been a part of that. It sucks.

Q: How much have you worked at wide receiver before this game?

A: We have packages where I’m split out wide and we have certain plays and I’m kind of familiar with the offense enough to know what’s going on up there. So, it wasn’t that much of a difficult adjustment. There were just some small things that I just kind of had to go and roll with it. I felt comfortable out there. The next guy had to step up. We were trying to drive down there with the guys we had.

Q: Was it difficult to go back out there and know that you still had to try to win the game after Beckham got injured?

A: I mean, yeah, it was tough. It was really tough after that play, right after. Yeah, I mean, it’s tough, we lost a soldier, we lost our brother. It’s tough, but the game there, had to try and keep winning.

Q: The last drive, though, you got the ball in Los Angeles territory and still had a shot, right?

A: Yeah, I mean, had a couple of penalties that hurt us really bad. But we were moving, we had a shot. It just didn’t happen.
