Agree, and being biracial/bilingual would work to his advantage, he’s already a respected mentor to both young Latino and non Latino players

Interesting and good point. I doubt though with the past steriod history that it would happen in NY...good points though.. never thaught of him.

Much more power, imo. Olerud was a 20-25 HR guy in his best years (actually, 24, I just checked). I think that Bird could easily be a 30 HR guy fairly often. Of course, Olerud hit .350 or so a few times, so there's that.

I think he'd be a good instructor, now. He'd need time to learn how to be a manager, but as far as knowing the game, he knows the game.

Girardi deserves another 2 years to see this through either to a championship or his dismissal. Unfair to toss him out this year for one poorly managed game when the team under his stewardship exceeded all expectations by getting into the division series

I think Girardi has run his course. 10 years is a long time in one place especially NY. I wouldnt be upset either way though.

Not exactly fair since the team was in a slow-motion rebuild from 2012 to now. In years where he had a championship caliber team (2009-2011) he won a ring and got to an ALCS

Good point. I was mulling the rain or no rain point and yeah Tomlinson vs Bauer is a no brainer. The Yanks will have a rested Green, Kahnle and Betances for tomorrow. I think that getting pushed tonight has taken Chapman out of the game tomorrow.

If he's right, he can match anyone. He'll be 100% rested against Bauer who will be sailing in uncharted waters for him.

I'd like to see Bird slotted up to third between Judge and Sanchez.

That's because folks are so ready and willing to play the blame game. You know, like our fearless leader.

Booing Girardi tonight is an insult to intelligent fans. Fuck everyone who did so. I hope that each one of them isn't judged on one mistake they make, with folks saying that THEY should lose their job, or their spouse, or whatever else is meaningful to them.

Get off the soap box. Girardi blew it and blew it badly. He deserved to be booed, just the way it is. A chance to beat Kluber and he doesn't look for the replay when Sanchez is telling him it was a foul tip? Getting beat on a pitching change is one thing, not asking for the replay when it costs nothing is a terrible mistake.

section, no soapbox here. You ever made a mistake?
yatqb : 10/9/2017 12:08 am : link
Would you want people who are supposed to be in your corner to boo you, especially if you've had a "season" like Girardi has had? Thanks for everything, close the door on the way out? I think it would have been classy to cheer him rather than boo him, and it would have actually picked up the team more if the fans did so. But perhaps that's more classy than you are.

Bill, I'm just so tired of the blame game that so many of us engage in. Perhaps politics has a big part in my discontent, but to boo a guy who puts everything he has into his job and once in a while fails, but succeeds far more often, seems classless to me. Look in the mirror, folks.

It's good to see you post. This place misses your sanity. Bird will be a big part of our young core. His start this season was not as expected but he has had some clutch at bats and big homeruns. Many wanted to quit on Severino and Judge last year. It takes time for a young player.
Let’s hope they are drilling the hitters...

Kyle in NY : 10/9/2017 8:15 am : link
What a night. That stadium sounded like the old place. The way this team had energized the fan base is so cool. And to see the emotion from the players, guys like Bird, Judge, Chapman who are normally so even-keeled, is such a blast. Win or lose, this is already one of my favorite Yankee teams ever.

Now for tonight: On paper I like the matchup. I've seen Bauer get rocked too many times to fully buy into his revival. However, the hitters have to go to school on their game 1 ABs and adjust to that breaking ball. Easier said than done, but hopefully he's not as sharp on short rest.

First inning is going to be huge for Sevy. If he gets through that clean I think he gets on a roll.
