I didn't watch solely him on defense yesterday, but when I did he gave up setting the edge on running plays almost every time I did, and Melvin Gordon took advantage of it.
Players who are getting paid what he is should be the top 5 in the league at their position. He has never been consistent except by playing worse against the better competition. This has been obvious since his second year in the league . The fact that we have been debating how good he is for years proves he is not top notch. Think back to all the great Giant defenders like Strahan. I never remembering any debate at all on him being excellent.
He's right up there in the league leaders for his position in tackles. He's not getting home, it doesn't mean the effort isn't there. JPP is part of the solution...not the problem. There are a lot of reasons why the Giants are winless. Damon Harrison hasn't been nearly as dominant as he was last year and yet nobody is crapping on him daily.
It's the Offensive Line, lack of running game, poor play-calling, poor QB play especially early this season, and on the defensive side, it's been bad plays given up by mostly Eli Apple at the worst possible times and poor play from the FS position...but the defense is last on the list in terms of responsibility for 0-5.
If you are correct in how good he is then clearly he would have trade value. Unlikely you would find someone to take him with his contract. I spent a good deal of the time observing him. He was constantly being man handled and irrelevant. The pass rush and run defense stink for a reason. PFF is far from perfect, but the numbers suggest the tackles are fine. The DE’s not so much.
Snacks is probably the only defender this year that one can claim Â
is playing up to his standard. Well, along with Jenkins in coverage.
JPP isn't, but it sounds like he's banged up again. There's a lot of damage on his body at this point and he may not be able to play through it as well as he did previously.

I aggree he's not getting home on sacks, but his run defense was not so hot. Like I said I watch numerous plays yesterday, where he just took himself out of the play, and didn't set the edge, and Gordon just took advantage of that. Either he was freelancing or he made a stunt inside, but there was no one there to fill in behind him, and it cost us.

Not sure you have that right. They haven't been ableto stop ANY team let alone and 0-4 team. Even when we have been in the lead they can't make a stop. They are the $250 million machine! Make a friggin stop. JPP only plays when its a contract year. The injury he supposedly has now will get 'serious' in the coming weeks and he'll take the rest of the year off.
Awful bs vs the bucs- ok yesterday but not elite and that is what he’s paid to do-
He’s likely dinged up but I’m not letting him get away with that.
I find we basically paid top dollar for 2 defensive ends and then ask them to play a game more suitable to an average player like Kerry Wynn... we don’t let them let lose... they are moving around too much— they are watching the qbs eyes instead of getting into the pocket- and they are dropping into coverage.
Sometimes it’s best to just let your players play... we have bromley dropping in fcking coverage - just let the guys play and be aggressive themselves- We paid the players a lot of money and spags is scheming like he has to outthink the opponent when we have the horses to outplay it
that he and Vernon are at or near the top of the NFL in snap count percentage. And given how little our offense spends on the field, it compounds the wear and tear.
McAdoo and Spags have to do a better job of giving JPP and Vernon breathers to keep them fresh and rested.
The last few games have been in gross humidity, too.
Better yesterday but still not good enough. He's giving up on his pass rush too often. Had more trouble va the run they usual.
First 2 games he was solid.
I didn't see the PHI game.
We still have much bigger problems. I expect him to play better a dbea core guy for a few more seasons.
To think he has made all this money for just one season.....
If you hit him first, you stop him dead in his tracks...
