It's hard to root for losses

crick n NC : 10/9/2017 11:40 am
During the chargers have yesterday I felt it was in the giants best interest draft wise to lose the game, however I couldn't root for them to lose, I got excited when they took leads, and was once again disappointed in the outcome.

One good thing is, in expecting losses it does take away some sting.
I'll never

root for losses - especially when the team is talented. We should continue to root for these guys and see what they are made of this year. Even if they start to play well, we should still be in the top 10 of the draft.
agree

I have seen it all in my 54 years.
If we're 1-14, I'll be out there in the cold rooting for us
Mad Mike : 10/9/2017 11:50 am : link
to kick Washington's butt to get to 2-14. As you say, it takes the sting out of a loss when we're non-competitive, and moving to better draft position is obviously a benefit, but I always want to see the team win.
This team finds a way to lose

like the last year with Coughlin.
I don't root for losses

but the Giants have managed my expectations, to use a business term. I'll be going to all the home games the rest of the year. I've always believed that you can't fully enjoy when a team is winning until you feel the pain of losing. Well...here we are.

This is worst than TC's last year. You have to go back to the 60's & 70's teams for a Giants team that looks this bad.
ehhh I need a break anyway
well...bye TC : 10/9/2017 11:57 am : link
btwn the shitty giants, NFL politics, CTE and assorted wife beaters/stars, Im done with it for now
I'm not rooting for them to lose.

But I'm not pounding the table after a bad play or shedding tears when they lose. Does that make sense?

Same here.
I get it. It makes it difficult to feel like a real fan
GiantFilthy : 10/9/2017 12:02 pm : link
if you root for your team to lose. Sometimes though you have to look at what would be best for the franchise and for you as a fan going forward. Just as we timed our awful season at the perfect time with Eli/Roth/Rivers coming out, we may luck out again if QBs for this upcoming draft live up to the hype.

We got really, really lucky with OBJ in 2014. Really lucky. However, depending on how you feel about him as a player (many here want him gone), those useless wins in the second half of the '13 season when we were already a dead team probably cost us Khalil Mack.
The fact that our WR corps is decimated
Don in DC : 10/9/2017 12:05 pm : link
makes it easier to accept losses. We WILL NOT be competitive this year with the assortment of UDFAs we will be rolling our at WR.

What I would like to see is some growth and progress on the D side of the ball, improvement in the running game, and maybe get Davis Webb some playing time to see if he has potential.

Agree 100%. I'll take it even further... During a game I wouldn't ever actively root for failure, but if they squeak out a win, after the rush of getting that win wears off, it'll hit me that they would be better off losing.

During these few pitiful years, I basically go numb to the Giants, and watch out of force of habit, but I'll start turning my attention to the rest of the league. This year may be tough to do that, with how un-enjoyable the NFL product has become...
I never root for a Giants loss.
Frank from CA : 10/9/2017 1:32 pm : link
the team will 'earn' their spot in the draft due to their lack of competitiveness. I also never root for Dallas or Washington to win (in a NFL context). Like Mad Mike stated above, I will root for a Giants win regardless of draft especially against a divisional foe. I just hope the players and coaches that remain do not gain bad habits from this type of futile season. The Ownership and Front office better get their ducks in a row this off season and make better decisions on personnel, coaches and scouts.

Very much agreed with this.
Not for me

I’m tired of picking right after the “cut line” from blue chippers to red. If it’s a lost year, I’d root for 0-17 if it were possible.
I'll never root for an Eli-quarterbacked Giants team to lose.
bceagle05 : 10/9/2017 3:43 pm : link
He's sure as hell earned that much from me, and a lot more. If they start working Webb and Geno in - sure, tank away.
not rooting for losses but I did laugh when Eli fumbled

and was over this one before the final whistle. This is a bad team with a awful coach, shit needs to change before I can be reinvested.
