I know that yesterday isn't a measure of anything, but he was being used much more earlier in the season. Did he screw up? Did opponents take him out of the game? My sense is that his skill set isn't being used to its full advantage in play design and assignments.
It's only one game.
The OP makes it sound like he got 15 targets the first two games and hasn't caught a pass since.
But I'm probably not seeing something.
I don't know why he didn't see more action yesterday. My guess is the coaches are the problem there.
How do they fail to call several plays to get him the ball in space in every game? There should be screens to him, shuffle passes (like KC does with Kelce), and more of the motion plays we see with Reed in WAS. They have the Reed type plays. We've seen them a few times. They should be called a few times every game. Didn't see it yesterday.
Except Ben McAdoo.
This guy was supposed to be a matchup nightmare for linebackers and safeties.
I'm sure that he is...it's just that his head coach has no idea how to make it work.
His best attribute should be threatening safeties and LBers deep. He should be causing defenses to worry more about him getting behind them and less used as a safety valve target underneath zone coverage.
This is the 1st round TE we just HAD TO HAVE over OL help. This team is truly sickening, it's almost unbelievable how bad they botched everything.
You could see something intensely angry bubbling under Coughlin's skin when he got axed. Almost like it killed his love of the Giants. He knew he was the only guy who knew WTF he was doing and didn't like the parting shots. He knew how ridiculous it was choosing McAdoo over him. He knew how much cap space they were going to have. He bit his tongue....barely. Wouldn't shake Mara's hand though.
