He pissed the vets off because he didn't want to give extensions to 34+ year old TEs (Olsen - currently injured) and Thomas Davis.
To me, that is called protecting the franchise and salary cap.

Well yeah, he pissed them off because he had the balls to cut overpaid, aging, oft injured vets and they didn't like that. Some of these players were the owners favorite players. And when Gettleman wanted to move on from Olsen, that was the final straw.
I don't see Gettleman coming back at his age though.
Naming him GM would be one reason to cease,rooting for this team. I don't see it happening. If Reese is canned, why go with his protege as his successor?
