#LSU deputy AD Verge Ausberry confirms the school has learned of the passing of former QB Y.A. Tittle.
“Y.A. Tittle, a member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame and LSU’s first T-formation quarterback, died Monday, according to LSU deputy director of athletics Verge Ausberry.
He was 90.
Known as “The Bald Eagle’’ for his lack of hair — which he began losing in college — throughout his 17-year pro career with the Baltimore Colts of the All-American Football Conference, the San Francisco 49ers and New York Giants of the NFL, Tittle was a two-time NFL MVP and a seven-time Pro Bowl quarterback...” Link - ( New Window )
I grew up with the Giants of the early 60's....they went to the Championship game 3 straight years....should have won it it in '63, but Del dropped that pass, and a dirty play took out YA's knee...
Commanded the best offense ever. The only thing that could beat them Â
Met him at one of the giants functions back around 1990. Great guy, very nice and very generous with autographs. Too bad it was on a football they were giving out and not even visible any longer...
ever Giants game. YA throws for 7 TD passes as we beat Washington, 49-34. A terrific memory. My dad who took me and is now 94 still remembers that game as well.
I have the photo from his last game on my man cave wall, Y.A. despondent, huddled on the bench. He was one of greatest of all time, MVP at 37, classy, tough, one of the best pure passers ever to play. His daughter, Dianne Tittle DeLaet, wrote a poigant memoir, "Giants and Heroes," about growing up with her father during the Glory Years. R.I.P. Y.A. Gifford, Rote, Conerly, Rosey, Big Red, and the other guys are waiting for you.
I got to see several games on TV with Tittle throwing TD's. My love of the Giants began at 6 years of age and Tittle near the end of his career. Yet he was terrific in '62 and '63. That man took a pounding. Then the wilderness years began.
He was at the very end of his career . My Father took my
sister and Brother to watch the Giants they got to meet many of them coming off the Bus . Somewhere I think we still have
slides of Ya and Don Chandler dressed in suits of course .
But he was the first QB that I knew as a young Giant fan .
Was'r right along then they had a kid from Cornell right
up the road from me in Gary Wood also I think Glynn Griffing
The 36 TD passes stood for a very long time as well .
Can this week get any worse ...
I was partial to Charley Conerly and he played his last year along with Tittle in his first year. But Y A Tittle will always be the Giant's best quarterback.
I watched both Giant QBs growing up and more often than not listening to the play by play on the radio.
Memories of that combo resonates in my mind like it was yesterday. Sad day for Giants fans, but it was good to see that he led a long life and was highly respected by all that knew him.
October 28th, 1962....I'm a 7 year old and was taken to my first

Me too, as a 8 year old. Years later I picked up a program from that game and had him sign it to me and my dad. A class act
