A statement from Mara would be nice

Chris684 : 10/9/2017 1:53 pm
In many other avenues, when something goes terribly wrong, you hear from the individual at the top.

I understand this may not be his way but this season is unlike anything we've experienced before. Sure, there have been failures. But not many on this level.

This is a season that carried nearly unmatched levels of expectations from not only within the organization but also among the fan base and talking heads (which is rare). Moves were made with a clear 1-2 year window in mind and now that has completely blown up.

It would be nice to hear Mara release a few sentences so that we as fans can hear what's on his mind.
I think that would be a tough play...
BLUATHRT : 10/9/2017 1:56 pm : link
How do you say anything that will satisfy the fan base that doesn't basically damn the coach and GM at this point? He's in a no win situation unless a move is made to terminate them now, which is completely against this teams MO.
I can’t remember if the owner
Simms11 : 10/9/2017 1:56 pm : link
and GM speaks at the Bye or only at seasons end, but yea something from the owner to quell the rioters would be nice.
I can hear it now:
Unemployable : 10/9/2017 1:58 pm : link
In a low whisper he says, “Obviously we are not where we want to be. You can’t make rash, knee jerk decisions. We have a plan in place and I fully trust Jerry and Ben.”
How about a statement from our GM?
johnnyb : 10/9/2017 2:06 pm : link
This is his team out there, the players he signed and the players he drafted. It is bull shit that Reese only addresses the media three times per year. He needs to come out of hiding and address the issues he helped create.

Mara will speak at the end of the year- actions AND words!
agree with BLU
JonC : 10/9/2017 2:07 pm : link
Not seeing any way he can truly help fans feel any better right now. Quite frankly, I'm not sure his decisions in January will either.
There's nothing Mara can say right now

that will accomplish anything - only will serve the press.

McAdoo is supposed to be a leader, he needs to show it here.
Meh
speedywheels : 10/9/2017 2:15 pm : link
I'd rather the owner keep his mouth shut (in public view, anyway)

During the season. I'm sure he'll address things afterwards...
It's never been ownership's
Keaton028 : 10/9/2017 2:16 pm : link
M.O. to do that. Enjoy the rest of the season for what it is, a chance for the young guys to show something with this new opportunity.
Here s the thing
joeinpa : 10/9/2017 2:21 pm : link
These injuries will not save jobs. Mara has to let things play out, nothing to be gained by talking now.

With 11 games to go he can hardly announce the changes you are so eager to hear about.

on this we agree.

Yep.

And he's going to sink or swim based on what happens the rest of the way, injuries or not.

If he can't control this situation and look like a leader, he's toast.
More empty words?
B in ALB : 10/9/2017 2:51 pm : link
No thanks.
He will probably drop an interview

In December when we're 0-13 and will promise some big changes for next season to make sure angry fans don't reenact the ice bowl of 1995
I've always respected how our owners

stay out of football business during the season. I don't need to hear from Mara.

+1 - you don't care what he says, anyway, you care what he does. And right now, he's not likely to do anything.
What would be the point of that, Chris?
Mike from Ohio : 10/9/2017 3:58 pm : link
Do you expect him to come out and say something we don't already know? Or you just want to see that he is disappointed? Hint, he is disappointed.

Weird.
It's not that weird...
Chris684 : 10/9/2017 4:22 pm : link
He can, for example, talk alittle bit about what he feels he's seen or at the very least start holding people accountable.

The GM, head coach and every player can use alittle lightning bolt up their ass at this point. Make things uncomfortable around there.

Are you serious? They're 0-5. They're uncomfortable. And it's quite possible that Mara has spoken to both Reese and McAdoo. He just doesn't have to tell you - that's not how this team has ever operated.

You're not alone in wanting your pound of flesh for a season gone horribly wrong. Look around; you have plenty of company right here on this board. But Mara is not going to whet your appetite for what level of accountability will be had, nor does he have any obligation to do so.

The amount of Giants fans who act like the team is underperforming just to hurt their personal feelings is staggering.

Out this morning. He's more upset with that result.

Just because you don't see it doesn't mean nobody is being held accountable. Publicly ripping on employees is a clown show and not how you run a business. You're asking to fire and blood because you're unhappy. Fine. He can't act like a fan. They are consistent in how they act. He'll say something at some point and then talk a lot at the end of the year, like always.
Well now that you've said so Ten Ton
Chris684 : 10/9/2017 8:47 pm : link
I guess I'll call it gospel.

Not looking for an owner to act like a fan. Not looking for a pound of flesh either.

I acknowledged it's not Mara's way but this season is not your regular bad season, it's worse than that. There are/were plenty of good owners across different sports who would probably have something to say at a time like this. How about George Steinbrenner?

If he says nothing, so be it, but I as a fan am curious about what his thoughts might be beyond "this is not good".
Mara doesn't get into the purely football aspects during the season...
Torrag : 10/9/2017 8:49 pm : link
...nor should he.
I don't want Mara saying anything at all...
EricJ : 10/9/2017 8:51 pm : link
he is not Jerry Jones. You also don't want him saying anything today that would contradict his actions at the end of the season.
.
arcarsenal : 10/9/2017 8:56 pm : link
People seem to hate Jerry Jones for this stuff and then simultaneously want our owner to act similarly.

I don't quite understand it.
There are miles between Jones and Mara
Chris684 : 10/9/2017 9:07 pm : link
Besides, Tisch speaks his mind a lot so it's not like it doesn't happen with this organization.

It's curiosity more than anything else.

Again, this isn't a regular bad season. This is a 5 alarm fire.

There is nothing he needs to/ or should say at this point.
Matt M. : 10/9/2017 9:56 pm : link
But, the day after the season I hope he announces the GM, HC, and entire staff have been asked to leave.
.
arcarsenal : 10/9/2017 9:58 pm : link
I'm just not sure what people want him to say or how that changes anything. Would it really make you feel better as a fan for the owner to come out and express his displeasure with the team?

Of course he's pissed - I'd rather he not turn it into a spectacle and opt to handle things behind closed doors.

I'm just not sure what he could say that would matter. What is there to get out of it beyond him recognizing that they did a bad job? What would you want to hear? Some of us remember the 4-12 season before the Eli draft. It sucks. Do we think there's even a question as to how John feels about it? And it's not like he can lay out a plan for what he intends to do about it. Nobody has answers right now.
Yeah Mara holds a press conference
B in ALB : 10/9/2017 10:29 pm : link
Or makes a statement.

And you idiots proceed to blast him.

Better to just keep his mouth shut after Week 5.

I realize some of you veal medallions think you're owed something, but give it a rest. It's a business and you're a fan. Relax.
If he comes out and says something...
EricJ : 10/9/2017 10:38 pm : link
it WON'T be that he is disappointed with the coach or the GM (or both) and will be looking for replacements after the season. What you WOULD hear is that he supports them and is looking forward to a strong finish. For some reason, I have feeling that many people here would be unfulfilled by that kind of response.

So, what is the point in saying anything publicly?
