Will public opinion sway the Mara's to clean house

EJJ : 10/9/2017 3:36 pm
They have ignored bad draft picks and fielding a shit O line for 5 years. Jerry and the scouts get a free pass. They hire an inexperienced Coach to head their franchise with no Head coaching experience.....EVER!
The talking heads are having a field day with this mess its "comical". Season ticket holders should make some noise. Paying to watch this shit show is sad.
What I'm afraid of is the injury excuse after yesterday. This team came out of the gate unprepared to start the season. The GM , coaches and players as well contributed to a lost season of mega proportions and we as fans have to suffer they still get paid.
This is the type of situation where ownership needs to step up and CLEAN HOUSE! Get a competent GM and an experienced Head coach. We the fans deserve better!!
Moderate bad press/public opinion

will lead to a Mara statement at the end of the year, which will include some very strong words and an ultimatum. I very sincerely doubt Reese gets fired and Mcadoo gets to stay on, so in this scenario, both will remain.

Extremely bad press, a winless season and people not showing up to games, booing, wearing bags could conceivably get Mara to act and fire both.

While the latter is probably needed, if I were a betting man, I'd say the odds are more likely of the former actually happening.

Can’t imagine any justification for keeping JR,

not at this point. The owners opinion and the public opinion are most likely one in the same by now. Plus, the team had no wins before the injuries.
I dunno

Ultimately, I think changes and decisions like these are best done independently of public opinion, by an ownership team that has justifiable confidence in its processes and priorities and is willing to take calculated, rational risks.

I don't know if we've got that ownership team in place.

I think about the laughing stock the Golden State Warriors were, for years... to the point where your average fan didn't even mind if the Warriors were going to post another losing season as long as they were entertaining on the court while doing so. Joe Lacob may be a douchebag, but he and his staff deserve a ton of credit for the complete turnaround of a moribund franchise from top to bottom. They took a lot of risks but they were ultimately smart risks, and they seemingly nailed all of them. And they were greedy for more success, firing Mark Jackson after two consecutive playoff appearances for a franchise that had not seen many of those in 30 years.

As someone who likes the NBA but not nearly as much as I like football, I'd transfer the Warriors recent success to the Giants in a second if I could.
I'm

also afraid the injuries will be an excuse. Not sure it will make a difference, but I'm hoping the Jets win some games.
Don't see why Jerry

Well, that recommendation has met reality and McAdoo is a quarterbacks coach. He needs to go.

Reese, Ross, Mara - need to go now so we can get a fresh perspective in here.
they survived a 0-6 start in 13'
larryflower37 : 10/9/2017 4:22 pm : link
Mara didn't say anything during that mess. I don't anyone that should say be able to say they started 0-6 twice and kept their job.
Does anyone on this board want Reese or McAdoo
Mike from SI : 10/9/2017 4:24 pm : link
to stay? This is being discussed across 20 threads and it's hard to keep track. I wish Eric would set up a poll or something....

You sure Mara didn't say anything? No, he's not going to say anything during the season. But he'll have his say when it's over.

I hope not...

the day the Giants start following the opinions of some of you mouth breathers is the day I turn in my fan card.
Mara and Tisch
Big_Pete : 10/9/2017 4:50 pm : link
Mara and Tisch will be publically supportive of Reese and McAdoo.

What goes on behind the scenes could be a very different story.

Even after 2015 ownership were supportive of Coughlin, yet after a meeting with owners and Reese, Coughlin "chose" to resign, note Coughlin wasn't fired.

The real question is whether Mara and Tisch put the hard word on Jerry Reese to get things sorted.
Much remains to be seen
WideRight : 10/9/2017 4:55 pm : link
In 2013, the Giants somehow finished strong. That saved TC's job.

If McAdoo can do this, he's probably OK. If he loses the team, he gone, and Spags probably takes over.
I hope so
Marty866b : 10/9/2017 4:56 pm : link
It really is time to blow this up and bring in a new GM,coach and quarterback. Last year was a fluke if you look at the last six seasons. This team sill be fortunate to win more then 3 games,if that. How can you not change everything? I don't want to hear about the injuries. This team is awful without any injuries. They have shown that. Time to turn the page.
If changes are coming
12aob : 10/9/2017 5:06 pm : link
- and I hope they are - I'd like to see JR go first (and soon). Bring in a new GM and give him time to evaluate the current roster and establish his scouting department. With all the injuries, see how the young guys play. Use that info to create a draft board that fits the greatest needs of the team. Once the season is over bring in a new coach who fits the new GM's approach and the "talent" the team has.
I'm in the minority on this one
LakeGeorgeGiant : 10/9/2017 5:12 pm : link
but if the downward spiral continues, I think Reese gets canned. I think a scenario in which Mac goes and Reese stays is less likely.

Reese gets fired, a replacement is hired. The coaching decision is made after a GM is in place.

If Macadoo gets fired
NikkiMac : 10/9/2017 9:21 pm : link
That will be the end of Eli , I don’t think he’s really into learning a new system in his last 2 years and he does have a no trade clause in his contract ...... that could get interesting but I get the feeling Eli wants to finish his career here
I don't think ublic opinion will factor in
Matt M. : 10/9/2017 9:58 pm : link
But, I fear that the injuries that are mounting are going to buy Reese and McAdoo another year, which will set the franchise back another year or two.

I see it the other way. Keeping McAdoo will ruin Eli by wasting his last years. Firing Reese and McAdoo, assuming they hire the right guys, saves Eli's late career with the Giants.
