They cant. Nobody to piss off as they will own the franchise. They can put as much crappy talent or ignore their AAA gm and fans all they want (all reasons other spots ended poorly). All kidding aside they can do as they please. Oh yeah and if Tebow is still playing you can bet your ass hes in Syracuse

So how did this happen? All the discussions we had about this you (and others) would say there's simply nowhere "local" for them to move.
I know some of us differed on the impact, but they harped on it many times during Mets broadcasts how a) LV was poor for player evals (pitchers and hitters), b) it was not convenient for shor-term injuries or short notice of injuries and c) it was not convenient for scouting.
and they always brought up the Braves who I guess have all their teams close by - as do most clubs.
They'd bring up the fact the Mets were by far the team with the most distance between the big league club and their AAA team in the majors.
Now it would be nice to see them put some money into a real manager not one who had a lifetime losing record when he got here and no one else wanted but was signed because he only cost a million bucks.
granted they shouldn't have screwed up Norfolk after 35 years there and then they should have found a way to make Buffalo work, but this is a good thing.
Pleasantly surprised that they did something that had to be done
around a 4 hour drive (I think) in the same time zone.
Who gives a shit about the rest.
this should mean the days of playing short-handed in the bullpen or with a short bench because they just couldn't get someone to NY are hopefully over.
maybe the W/L impact was nothing, maybe it was a small impact, but it's over (after next season).
But why were they ever in Vegas to begin with? Isn't proximity to the major league club the goal? I've been to two Triple A games (Sacramento River Cats/ Triple A affiliate of the Giants, Gwinnett Braves, Triple A affiliate of the Braves). Both of those teams were a stone's throw away from the major league club.

No other options. As noted above they pissed off Norfolk, landed in NO where they also had a falling out, then Buffalo who 1. Didnt like the talent the Mets gave them 2 wanted to be tied to the Blue Jays due to Geography. Their issues with AAA span over a decade. That will finally be over with as franchise owner
Most AAA teams are affiliated with a big club whose city is a reasonable distance. But there's been this constant churn of odd matches in recent years. The biggest one now is the A's affiliate being Nashville. If they took Vegas leaving Nashville to the Nats, things would be pretty square.
The Dodgers (OKC) and Astros (Fresno) swapping affiliates would make some sense too.
This is odd they are building a new facility in Summerlin
Any rotation with Thor and Degrom at the top has a chance to be tough, especially in the postseason
I can definitely see this team squeaking into the postseason with 88 wins and then going deeper than expected
Quietly hope you are right, but I would like some of what you're smoking! Watching the playoff teams this year all I can see are lineups that are VASTLY better than the Mets AAA lineup. Unless they are bringing in some FA's I don't see them competing for anything next year, sadly.
that the Syracuse Chiefs are currently owned by around 4,000 shareholders and controlled by a 13 person board of directors. I wonder if the shareholders are making a nice profit. Shares were reportedly worth ~$125.

Good move for once.

How did Syracuse become available?

LV is bad for many reasons, including that the stadium there is far below even minor league standards.

It's currently the Nats franchise. So the Mets top rival now has to s rable to find a club. Hopefully get stuck with Vegas!

Really great news

Not odd. Some MLB team will end up affiliating there.
It's gonna be the dark ages when Fred dies and Jeff is the sole owner.

He single handedly fucked up the whole minor league setup to begin with and is 100% capable of doing it again.

hopefully he will sell the team because he cant handle it
I'll write to B in ALB and ask if he can put us up. He loves me, so answer will probably be yes

Pass

Gotta non-tender him and then you can consider trying to bring him back. No way is he worth that to this team.

I don't think the new stadium in Summerlin is a sure thing yet.
So the Mets gave up a real prospect for the right to pay $9M to the mediocre Ramos? What a terrible idea.

Not officially done, but it will get done. Lets just say they have huge plans.

We couldve paid Reed half that money to return

Spike,
Reed is getting WAY more than half of AJ Ramos's 9 million. He made 7.75 in 2017 via arbitration.
who may amount to nothing, but why make that trade at all?
Where would Merandy have been on the Mets top prospect list? 5?
First time in a game since June 4th 2016 today #Essssskettttitttttt

I would have had him in the 6-8 range but yeah easily top 10.
