Spoke to Justin Tuck yesterday

GMAN4LIFE : 10/10/2017 8:55 am
Justin went to the game on sunday and was rooting for our boys to win it. "Just get the W " he said on instagram..

well afterwards i asked him, I cant put my finger on what is the problem with the team. I mean is it Eli, is it the coach.

he said "one word- LEADERSHIP."

i guess i can agree.

your thoughts?

Perhaps, but many of these former Giants "greats" have selective memories when discussing leadership. I remember Strahan and Armstead ripping Fassel after a loss right after Fassel's mom died. I remember Coughlin having to tell Tuck to get his head out of his ass during the 2011 season (granted Tuck was dealing with injuries and personal losses too, but Tuck admits he was sulking).

Long story short... these type of accusations ALWAYS appear during losing streaks. Expect more of them.
I love Tuck
Chris684 : 10/10/2017 9:02 am : link
but as noted above it took TC almost a full season to reach him in 2011. Rolle had to call him out on to the practice field that same season.
Strange answer from Justin
BBelle21 : 10/10/2017 9:04 am : link
Considering how Antrel had to call him out during the 2011 season.
well Tuck may have been guilty but
I Love Clams Casino : 10/10/2017 9:07 am : link
it doesn't mean that he's not on to something....

who better than an ex-alcoholic to tell you who is an alcoholic?

He’s right and it speaks to the culture present
Dave on the UWS : 10/10/2017 9:11 am : link
But he shouldn’t be calling the kettle black. It hasn’t been his strong suit.
He’s not wrong...
bradshaw44 : 10/10/2017 9:13 am : link
There was no Rolle to call out anyone this year. Or a TC for that matter. All I heard was BM (which is what I am calling him from now on) call out our HOF QB for not being great behind the worst OL in football.
takes one to know one
mattlawson : 10/10/2017 9:18 am : link
he's been the recipient and bestower.

Huh?

1. Strahan and Armstead showed a lack of leadership. And it was reflected in the team's performance.

2. What Coughlin did to Tuck in 2011 was leasership. Antrel Rolle also called him and others out in public. Leadership.

I've given up on this team as
That’s Gold, Jerry : 10/10/2017 9:21 am : link
it is currently constructed...in the front office as well as on the field. In fact, I actually hope things go down the tubes completely.

I hate to say that but I think that is the only way action will be taken to get rid of this general manager and several of those in the personnel department who seem to believe they have jobs for life and produce nothing.

I'm not sure anything else but a complete and total disaster will force a change. Even that might not do it.

I have absolutely no words of optimism to offer.
He's right
AnnapolisMike : 10/10/2017 9:27 am : link
No one outwardly appears to be stepping up. Is there anyone on the locker room? This was a common complaint during TC's tenure that none of the players were leaders.

This is just a team that looks rudderless. And with the WR corp decimated . . . engineless as well.
Leadership is easy to point out as a missing ingredient
JonC : 10/10/2017 9:39 am : link
and difficult to obtain in quality, this team clearly lacks it.
Yea we're missing a little leadership
Jeever : 10/10/2017 10:07 am : link
But more importantly we're missing a ton of talent.
it's the offensive line
PaulBlakeTSU : 10/10/2017 10:08 am : link
and has been the offensive line. We can't run the ball and we can't throw the ball and defenses have the easiest jobs in the world against us. It then hurts our defense by not giving them enough of a breather, especially when dealing with the humidity the last three weeks.

It is a fatal flaw.

Leadership
Thegratefulhead : 10/10/2017 10:25 am : link
I think leadership to football players means go out and make a play when it matters. The Giants could easily have a winning record if someone could make a play at the end of the 4th quarter.(looking at U D)
so he is also blaming
SHO'NUFF : 10/10/2017 11:59 am : link
Eli...
Bah
Gman11 : 10/10/2017 12:01 pm : link
It's a WR that drops balls. It's an OL that can't block. It's a defense that can't tackle. It's a defense that can't cover a TE.

But, all they are lacking is somebody to yell at other players. Yeah, that's the ticket.
You know who is supposed to lead the team?
RobCarpenter : 10/10/2017 12:15 pm : link
The coach. Who has his head in the Greek diner menu instead of checking on Odell.
And this is where I add
NikkiMac : 10/10/2017 12:21 pm : link
Tiki Barber much to everyones dismay was right about Eli ....... many people don’t want to hear this but usually the leader on offense is the QB not always but usually and Eli is not a rah rah guy and OBJ is trying to cover that deficiency but he’s been a fool nobody has come close to being a leader on offense a leader on TE or OL or RB would make this a more physical team ....... last guy we had here for that was B.Jacobs ........ Defense Landon Collins should probably be the leader there and Snacks ......
I saw Justin at the game
djm : 10/10/2017 12:31 pm : link
he was sitting about 10 feet up and 20 feet away in that lower section of mezzanine. He listens and acknowledges EVERYONE. The guy is great. A true ambassador of this franchise and the NFL. Before the whole lower tier knew where he was, one fan at a time, including me, called out his name and got the eye contact/nod from Tuck. I'm talking dozens of lunatics lol...Tuck loved it...before too long everyone saw him and started chanting his name.

The rest of the game sucked but the fans and vibe were great as usual.
Tiki Barber
BBelle21 : 10/10/2017 12:49 pm : link
Was never right about Eli except when admitting he was totally wrong about Eli. Anyone who thinks Eli isn’t a great leader isn’t paying attention to what a great leader does. He shows up and gets his men ready and more often not not does it most when the cameras are not around.

No, coaches.
It's easy for former players to say stuff like that.
Matt M. : 10/10/2017 1:41 pm : link
But, how in touch is he with the current locker room? He doesn't have many teammates left in there.

That said, I think he's right because I don't care for Reese, McAdoo, or the rest of the coaching staff. In terms of player leadership, Eli is about the only one to be trusted. JPP has not stepped up. OBJ is a great player, but not a leader. There is not really anyone on the OL that can hold much weight. Collins and DRC and maybe Jenkins way be the only other potential leaders.
Not getting the shots at Tuck
LakeGeorgeGiant : 10/10/2017 1:53 pm : link
Where did he say that HE was a leader? He. Said this team lacks leadership. He is correct
There are plenty of signs the head coach
allstarjim : 10/10/2017 3:05 pm : link
has already lost the team.

OBJ saying publicly that Bucs' players told him they knew what routes they were going to run.

Eli Apple saying it's not one guy, it's the "whole culture."

Janoris Jenkins leaving the field early.

So many of the top players, particularly on defense, not performing up to quite the same level as last year, which could be indicative of a motivation issue.

To me, there are more signs like this, and if the team displays a lack of the will to fight through adversity, then there is no choice but to fire McAdoo either during this season or immediately after, and Reese must be evaluated as well.

The Giants are certainly at a crossroads, and how they navigate the next 6 months or so could determine the fate of the franchise for at least the next several seasons if not much longer.

Maybe he can call the kettle black because he has been on both sides of that equation; so he is in a unique position to understand the issue.

Tuck obviously knows that he got called out by Rolle. Who is calling out OBJ? Who is calling out the O-line? Who is calling out the D for not stopping anyone? I would say that is what he is referring to.
Remember when
DaveW2 : 10/10/2017 6:50 pm : link
Tom Coughlin was in trouble early in his time here, and everyone was writing him off? He got the message that he needed to change his approach. He did and it was successful. Hopefully the same scenario will happen with McAdoo. Remains to be seen, but I think we need to give the guy a chance. He's only been a HC for what a year and five games? And they did pretty good the first year. Geeze!

On the other hand, the guys who have been picking their draft choices seem to have mostly been missing the mark for a few years now (with a scant few exceptions).
