Judge is useless at the plate right now. A lot of people have him destined to spend the next decade in pinstripes. I'll tell you what, if he doesn't fix his approach and pitchers continue to figure him out it will be a shame.

Ah I see the internet tough guy comes out in you. I'd venture to guess you're quite lonely and slow.
Never see anything but a strikeout or a HR (or occasional double).
He needs some random chick dressed in white to stand up.
Haha indeed.
Judge has looked really bad, but he does have a couple big RBIs this postseason too. Playoffs are tough, hes facing mostly top pitchers whove done their homework and are killing him with tough breaking balls.
He has work to do to get better, no doubt, but hes also a huge reason why were here right now

Totally agree. He will right the ship. Patience.
Funny they threw up thst stat of Judge leading the league
first time all game he was missing his spots. No fucking excuse for Girardi to not have someone ready to go there after Bruce got on. None. He got caught sleeping and may have just cost us another game.
Girardi has absolutely no feel for a game....he truly is Joey Binders.
FBs to Jackson I figured he was toast. Joe should have pulled him after the 2nd hit. I know he's seen CC get guys on and then get out of it.
Shame he had total control..
DRob needs to put the fire out.
I would have given him Perez but after Perez got the hit, you go to the pen. It's a good chance that DRob gets out of that situation with a 3-1 lead (overpowers Urshela and gets the groundout from Lindor)
that we'd be heading into the bottom of the 6th at least +1 and the indians had already burned through Kluber/Miller and our bullpen has consisted of 2 pitches by DRob, i'd have signed up in a heartbeat...

all day. Still though, 3 runs is almost certainly not enough.
Cleveland singled for their 1 man on base was pure exhilaration but when a Yankee gets on base its "line shot that drops in"... HATE the F'in Yankee hate! Why not have 1 pro announcer per team to even out the excitement in the calls!!!
Come on Yankees Lets start stringing together some hits and driving in some runs!!!

National announcers ALWAYS sound excited when the opposing team scores or makes a great play, because we're used to listening to our home team announcing crew.
My girlfriend was freaked out and actually started to get pissed at me because she didn't believe it was a commercial and thought I had changed the channel to some fucked up movie.
Drob for 3, Green for 3, Dellin for 3, Chapman for 3.
Evidently after 2 bad batters Green has been moved to Siberia
Will you please stop with this bullshit narrative that Girardi has lost confidence in Green? Green has been overworked and needed a few days. Joe will have no issues going to Green tonight. Just stop. It's ridiculous
The 3-1 was a strike but the 3-2 was easily outside
If outside not by much. Still there was little movement on that last called strike. Don't make the call easier to make. You have to protect the plate. Instead he's praying for a walk.
He is leaving the whole outside third of the plate unprotected. The coaching staff needs to work on that. Also, at this point if they advance he needs to be moved down in the lineup.
they were the ones who did the damage to CC. It's the right move
I'm not saying putting in Chapman was the right or wrong move, but what you are saying is the opposite of true. The bottom of the lineup got to CC (frustratingly).
warming up because that was a really, REALLY long break for Chapman there.
Thank goodness Gardner made it worth it. What great ABs by Gardner and Frazier because not coming away with anything and making Chapman sit all that time would have been hairy.

Kahnle and Green.. I dont give a fuck..get them both up.
last 15 years, football taken over baseball as my favorite sport. I think I'm leaning back to baseball. It's so much more pure. I've missed these moments.
Tip of the hat to Girardi. A lot of us, myself included, thought Friday night was the end of him as Yankees manager. And i've actually liked him for years, just thought it was one of those grady little type games.
But this team didn't fall apart and got stronger. Amazing job
not tag Jackson. He could have run to 1b after arguing with the ump and continued the inning
Wasn't 1st base occupied?
that rule only comes into play with less than 2 outs. Frazier was yelling at Sanchez about it while he was running to the mound. Sanchez lucky Jackson didn't notice.

Once Jackson turned and walked away he gives up that play.
Cleveland hadn't lost 3 games in a row since JULY. During that 22 game winning streak they wiped the Yankees out in the Bronx and made them look non-competitive. The Yanks played at a world championship level to win this series
probably my favorite yankee team in at least 15 years
They are an enjoyable squad aren't they...Great mix of youth and Veterans
this feels far more like the 90s teams than any team that played in the 2000s...and that includes world champs in '09.
and you hit the nail on the head: there's a mix of young/old and the team doesn't just consist of the 5 biggest names on the market.
just a well built and fun team. the farm+ savvy deals etc.
I remember them talking about the baby bombers when they were winning in Sept last year, they aren't use to losing, this group has won at every level they've played at in the minors.
Third star - Brett Gardner. What an at bat to give them some breathing room.
Second star - Carsten Charles. The big man pitched his heart out and did what they needed him to do.
First star - Sir Didi! Game of his life. Two crushed homers off the Cy winner and a sensational double play to end the threat in the fifth. What a performance!

that rule needs to be changed. Awesome performance by the warrior.
Agreed...Im so glad we held the lead for him, even if he doesnt get the box score win, everyone watching knows the job he did tonight out pitching the best pitcher in the AL this year.
The two top offenses in baseball clash. Each team has one established ace (Severino/Keuchel), one older warhorse reliving their glory days (CC/Verlander), and hit or miss starting pitching the rest of the way down.
The key to this series is Tanaka and the bullpen. They have to pitch well to win. The Yankee rotation is deeper when Tanaka is on

can't argue those. honorable mention to D-Rob. huge DP and then a couple of clean frames on top of that. HUGE string of outs.

Yankees have hit Verlander well last couple years.
Can't argue with that. I like Francona...tough night for him.

tonight. When we traded for him I figured he had lost something since he left. He has been tremendous all season and thru these playoffs. Another Yankee binky.
do to Francona for him to lose faith in him? The guy pitched 2 no hit innings with 4 k's. Turning point of the series was Francona bypassing Tomlin to Bauer for the dagger. He knows something we don't about Kluber. My opinion, if he goes with Tomlin in Game 4 the Tribe moves on.
Cleveland has some weak sticks in the lineup - Urshela, Kipnis, their catchers (although they did some damage in this series). Houston is a circular lineup. Everyone can hit - no easy outs.

He doesn't throw that 93 fastball on the corner anymore. 92 mph cutter and 6-12 curve ball and a change.
we weren't supposed to do this....we're still rebuilding. We are ahead of the curve here. Even if Houston sweeps us, it has been a fantastic year of development.
That said, I think I'd be dropping Judge to 6th or 7th.

Eh....on the whole, Tomlin is a pretty mediocre pitcher.

Tomlin sucks. And i'm not sure even if he was good where he should have pitched. The guy had a couple good innings, but it doesn't change the fact that he blows. He bypassed him for Bauer because Tomlin simply isn't any good.

Wasnt clev a top offense?
Cleveland was a strong offense but the top 2 in runs scored were Houston #1 and the Yanks #2
he hit the wall. Some guys just step it up in the playoffs. He had a couple of Kahnle-like innings in this series, crazy not to give him another shot. especially given his playoff track record.
The 3 straight wins most of all, but REALLY LOVING the Yankees fucking up the Cleveland locker room!!! Not only losing the game, but now they'll (stadium maintenance) will have to clean up after the Yanks pollute the room with Champagne!!!
"Keep Playing"... 1 game at a time!!! Sir Didi on O & D!!! CC.... Fraz, Gardy!!! Chappy!!! GREAT WIN!!!!
now lets beat the top-to-bottom best team in baseball.
Can't say how happy I am that we get at least four more games in a year we weren't supposed to make the playoffs.
Any chance we get a series where the strike zone doesn't favor the pitchers? All the yammering about raising the strike zone was implemented about as much as players not being allowed to step out of the box.
I have MLB network on one tv, SNY on another, and YES (which is the FS1 postgame for now) on. YES will show it as soon as the FS1 postgame is over im sure

awesome.....I don't have SNY and I can't get the Yankees postgame on their own channel.
-Robertson comes in for the 2nd time in an elimination game with no margin for error whatsoever and gives us 2+
-Obviously Sir Didi hitting the CY Young winner around like he's was a kid being pitched to by his dad in a father-son game
-The big fella I know he ran out of gas in the 5th but set the tone for 4+ pitching lights out ball
-Gardy with the best Yankee AB in the last 5 years or so (and 3 hits on the night)
-Chappy of course closing it out, I give a big assist to Kahnle too because his 6 out performance in game 4 allowed Chappy that pivotal extra day off to be fresh for 30+ pitches tonight
Gray likely game 1. I'd go Severino game 2 on normal rest especially with Tanaka's numbers on the road. Tanaka game 3, CC 4.
Bingo. I know Verlander is going game 1, but I would really start Romine and let Gary DH. The DHs aren't doing shit and Gray is way more comfortable with Romine. I have zero confidence in Gray pitching a good game with Gary.

Yes I agree with that rotation Mook. Don't want Tanaka pitching in that pinball machine of a ballpark. I like the idea of Sevi as the potential stopper in game 2 if we lose game 1.
He had a hit each game in a series in which both teams hit under .200. For a guy with no rehab, he went from off the DL to starting CF mighty quick.
yup add Hicks to my list too. He was solid all series and in the middle of much of the offense. I wonder if we get the running game going a bit more next series. Maybe we get on base more and the Houston C's don't have near the arms the Cleveland ones did.

Since the 2009 College World Series when he pulled a ridiculous Houdini act to get out of jams repeatedly for 3 extra innings as Arkansas beat UVA in a game they had no business winning. Want to beat that bastard so bad, I can taste it.
BTW, feels sweet to finally pay Francona back for 2004.
Wow....the Yankees reached into all of their bodies and ripped their spines out. Flawless victory, Mortal Kombat style.
Now, if it's schadenfreude you're after, look no further than the continuous pounding that Mr. Lapara is after.. Jose Ramirez - We're 3-0 at Yankee Stadium this year cupcake. - ( New Window )
Love that thread... cocky mofo...
The Yankees Twitter account responded to Ramirez's 'cupcake' tweet:

Very different kind of series coming up. From facing a great pitching staff, now they have to vanquish a great lineup.
Ellsbury likely stays on the roster for pinchrunning and a DH platoon. Much as I'd like to see Headley go, I suspect that the lack of other IF options saves him. There's no way that Torreyes is their only backup infielder.
So that leaves Holliday. Wonder if they give Red Thunder or Austin the nod.
IMO, revenge for that game with Joba and the midges -
Beating the Indians in the '98 ALCS was actually more satisfying to me than even the World Series for that reason. I was absolutely dying for revenge for '97. It was my favorite series win of the dynasty run.
Here's a fun stat - Lindor and Ramirez were a combined 4-38.
Hah! The Yankees' social media staff are going scorched earth
and unlike Judge he did it without the umps fucking half his AB's...
Greg I hear ya on '98. Game 6 was the first playoff game I ever got to go to. It was a party pounding the crap out of them and getting revenge (got to go to game 1 of the WS too) what a great year...back then the Yanks didn't fill the stadium every game and they came up with this promotion mid season that if you bought tickets to like 10 games at once for the rest of the year you could buy playoff tickets to 1 game per series. I had this great friend who organized like 10 of us and we went to ton of games that historic season then the playoffs...ahh good times! got married that year too
We had tickets to game 3 and after reviewgate was praying that we weren't going to see a sweep. Instead, got an instant classic from Tanaka and they pulled the series out.

Before tonight, the last time the Indians lost three games in a row:
July 30-Aug. 1.
Brett Gardner was 0-for-8 in the first 2 games of this series, but 6-for-13 with 2 RBI and 2 runs scored in the last 3. Didi Gregorius was 0-for-9 in the first 2 games of the series, but 4-for-8 in the last 3, including 2 HR in Game 5. Gregorius homered twice on inside pitches.

Thats your series right there. Gardy and Didi did nothing the first 2 games and came on strong at the end, whereas Lindor and Ramirez shit the bed for virtually the whole series. Also after a monster 2 games, Bruce disappeared the last 3.
ARod is fantastic, always liked Keith Hernandez, and it's even making me sort of like Ortiz. He's legitimately funny and the banter with ARod is great.
So fired up by this win so I can't sleep, so I'm enjoying this production

his postgame comments. He dismissed a question about 7 Indians errors and said we didnt beat ourselves, we got beat.
Even a dejected Kluber gave Didi and the Yanks a lot of respect in the locker room after the game.
Francona was customarily classy after the game too.
Fans are fans, not going to spend time worrying about what Cleveland fans are saying, NY fans have been similarly absurd after bad losses in different sports over the years
But you learn a lot about players and managers with how they handle losing a series like that

I agree too. My wife kids and I got a big kick out of the ARod-Big Sloppy banter throughout the series. They mix up the yucks with some pretty good baseball analysis. Sloppy doesn't add much, he could go but I love having him there right now for ARod to beat on...The YES guys are good analysts int he post game, but who can listen to them for 30 minutes straight? you fall asleep.

Yup for sure
One thing about the game 2 aftermath - you can tell Girardi earned a lot of respect from the players with the way he handled it afterwards

Yeah, I kind of liked Papi. I think he had just a tad trouble with his English getting out exactly what he was trying to say. I don't mean this to put him down. It is his 1st talking head gig and to be quick and succinct in your 2nd language is tough - I thought he and ARod were fun. Papi knows his shit.
Big Hurt is a good guy, but very quiet. Hernandez knows his stuff but ARod and Papi were just playing off each other. 5 guys in the booth is too much.
yeah that's what I mean. It's got a bit of a TNT "Inside the NBA" vibe with Barkley and that group.
The analysis is pretty good but you also get that with YES. But the banter is actually pretty funny. YES gets a bit dry and self serious. And I haven't minded Ortiz like I thought I would. Him saying "that's baseball, Suzyn" last night had me laughing.
I think they played the radio call of the final out, and they asked Ortiz for his best Sterling impression. So he did the "theeeee Yankees win" and then just as they were getting ready to move on he goes "that's baseball, suzyn".
ARod and Burkhardt the host lost it laughing. In his broken english too it was great, legitimately funny
His performance the last 2 years has partially mitigated the bad stretch, but this could be a real story changer.
This game will end well after mid night
Will be one for the ages... Let's fucking get it! Our time happens to be now suddenly, let's grab it now ! Let's go! Let's go!!! Woot woot!!!!
Every team runs video loop of oppo SP pitcher in clubhouse pregame, but CLE's on CC was consistent: All hits vs CC, all oppo field/middle.
Win or lose: Greay season
But I want a win!!!
I like that idea , A lot ! Nice creative thinking !
Haha yeah they have a weird dynamic. About half the energy of ARod, and when ARod tries to give them a chance to talk, they mumble awkwardly.
And then theres Frank Thomas, whos got quite a plum gig sitting there in a suit staying mute throughout the playoffs
The pitch count for Kluber is huge tonight.
I have a feeling he's going to be lights out. Gotta make him pitch tonight.

Gardy owes us one of his ABs where he fouls off 8 pitches or so

Kluber is getting calls too. Big zone for both teams.
will you shut the fuck up, dear lord go away
Mommys letting you stay up to watch the game?
How nice
This guy is a dupe that got booted already right?
Please don't post anymore.
that's the way it works in the playoffs, the pitchers spend all their pregame research on pitching the big guys and relax when they get past them.
Yeah they both look awful chasing the curveball. Need CC to stay sharp
Make these guys put it in play.

You're right.
If Judge and Sanchez strike out every time up and Didi hits a homer every time that they do, the Yanks are fucked!!!

That's because Kluber's MO is making righties look silly on sliders. Didi just put 2 immaculate swings on Kluber
thought the same..but he was smiling afterwards

I think they vote before the playoffs, right?
Not fair on a pitcher on a bad team who is the best pitcher in the league in a given year (see King Felix on Seattle)
If the zone is expanding more still benifits CC.

If a Cy Young favorite bombs in the postseason, should that count against him?
CC turned back the clock to 2008 in the first 4 innings
probably because he knows anything in front of the fence is an out

agree. evolution of a pitcher

Sorry. Misunderstood your intent. My bad.

Patience.
He's getting hit pretty hard now.
What's the word Joe?
Jackson and Bruce had hard hits
Dollars to donuts you were one of the people whining about CC getting pulled in game 2.
Girardi has absolutely no feel for a game....he truly is Joey Binders.
Roberto Perez is dogshit. Can't blame Joe for sticking with him there.
Damnit. Solid work by CC though

Agreed. Once Perez got the hit then you have to go to the pen
we need more than 3 tonight.
Shame he had total control..
DRob needs to put the fire out.
Gotta get out of this inning with no further damage, then go hit and get runs.
Come on Robo.
Tough call. Unless he falters back to back Ks it's likely that run scores from third anyway. Even on a groundout.
Wow nice throw...
Hit a homer Bird! We need another run
Shut the fuck up. You're past being annoying already.
Shame he had total control..
DRob needs to put the fire out.
I would have given him Perez but after Perez got the hit, you go to the pen. It's a good chance that DRob gets out of that situation with a 3-1 lead (overpowers Urshela and gets the groundout from Lindor)
Depends how the 6th goes. Getting out of the 5th with only 2 pitches was huge
Yup. Franconas about the best in the business.
it's Headley
Come on Yankees Lets start stringing together some hits and driving in some runs!!!

Or what you said, haha.
An insurance run would sure settle my IBS/heartburn about now.

Will you please stop with this bullshit narrative that Girardi has lost confidence in Green? Green has been overworked and needed a few days. Joe will have no issues going to Green tonight. Just stop. It's ridiculous
Must be harder for Encarnacion to get his HGH in Cleveland. If he were still on the Blue Jays, he probably hits that ball out
Hicks fly out was deeper..but EE is one scary guy.
Yup only 9 pitches for DRob so far. Im guessing the 7th is his

by just walking to the plate is surely his biggest contribution of the series. Miller looked like he had a lot left
ha! Is this Chase Headley finally earning his pinstripes? What a bum
Lol yes. I'd drop him from the roster if we're fortunate enough to advance. Grateful for his hit stretches during the season but he looks done

Yeah I know, Im just being an obnoxious fan
The 3-1 was a strike but the 3-2 was easily outside
Wasnt close
too close to take? It wasn't close. If he swings he doesn't come close to hitting it
^^^
This. CC got a lot of those calls.
As long as this ump is giving us these outside and low pitches, we are good.
Judge is striking out a lot but he's gotten screwed on more than a few
Last one wasnt even remotely a strike
What do you even get out of commenting? Do you have such little going on in your life?
He's lost because he didn't swing at a pitch 8 inches outside?
Quote:
Those last two were right down the pipe.

If outside not by much. Still there was little movement on that last called strike. Don't make the call easier to make. You have to protect the plate. Instead he's praying for a walk.

I'd rather him not swinging at pitches on the black on a 3-1 count. He earned a walk.
The zone has been huge for both teams but that one was the worst of them so far

That pitch was off the plate...guess we cant bitch as the Yanks pitchers have gotten a big zone too

No. CC didn't get calls below the knee. This is a unique problem when Judge is in the box. He isn't playing fucking golf.
Time to bench him?

News at 11.
probably to keep the catcher from framing the pitch, which he did, but didn't matter with this insane K zone.
Frustrating as hell to watch.
my legs are shaking like crazy
I dont... i go green in 8th
i'd only bring him in if a runner gets on...
Right, what the heck is the network thinking. You can't see shit but the umps ass.
Yup.
And this ump is starting to fade.
Changed the at bat
Absolutely agree
Ridiculous.
Thought the same
Shut yer trap, Hoya
Let's DiDio hit a dinger though.
Green if it goes extras (hope not)
gonna need at least 1 more to leave with a W. i'd go Kahnle 8th.
Fuck Clippard
I vote Kahnle, with Chappy ready for a 4-5 out save
Keep Green's length for a emergency / extra innings scenario.

I think there is almost no chance of Girardi yanking Chapman here. Certainly not for Kahnle.
Cannot accept getting beat on anything other than your best pitch

Just threw a sick slider there...
I'm not saying putting in Chapman was the right or wrong move, but what you are saying is the opposite of true. The bottom of the lineup got to CC (frustratingly).

So far so good.
either way incredible run..and year

But this team didn't fall apart and got stronger. Amazing job
But Chapman was not sharp but neither was the umpire...
Great win. Effin amazing. True house money.
They actually would have won 4 games - basically they outplayed the Indians, the best team in the AL and maybe baseball.
They are an enjoyable squad aren't they...Great mix of youth and Veterans
Agreed, lot of fun talking baseball with yall during games like this. Enjoy this, boys!!

Second star - Carsten Charles. The big man pitched his heart out and did what they needed him to do.
First star - Sir Didi! Game of his life. Two crushed homers off the Cy winner and a sensational double play to end the threat in the fifth. What a performance!

Agreed...Im so glad we held the lead for him, even if he doesnt get the box score win, everyone watching knows the job he did tonight out pitching the best pitcher in the AL this year.
The key to this series is Tanaka and the bullpen. They have to pitch well to win. The Yankee rotation is deeper when Tanaka is on

Wasnt clev a top offense?
tanaka
He doesn't throw that 93 fastball on the corner anymore. 92 mph cutter and 6-12 curve ball and a change.
That said, I think I'd be dropping Judge to 6th or 7th.
Gardy, Didi, Sanchez, Bird, Hicks, Castro, Judge, DH, Frazier.

If George were still alive this guy would have front row tickets to every Yankees home game in the playoffs.
He'll start, but I'd start Romine at catcher and let Gary DH that day.
dammit missed it....MLB Network?
Can't say how happy I am that we get at least four more games in a year we weren't supposed to make the playoffs.
Any chance we get a series where the strike zone doesn't favor the pitchers? All the yammering about raising the strike zone was implemented about as much as players not being allowed to step out of the box.
where are these instead of fs1?
What a ride this has already been.
Hope our bats break out against Houston.
Win or lose, this has been a fun year.

Lindor DP might've been the play of the game. Robby got out of that clusterfuck in just 2 pitches.
I thought I saw him, but wasn't sure if that was him or not.
awesome.....I don't have SNY and I can't get the Yankees postgame on their own channel.
On to Houston baby!

Maybe have Gray pitch a short simulated game tomorrow to keep him sharp.
yup add Hicks to my list too. He was solid all series and in the middle of much of the offense. I wonder if we get the running game going a bit more next series. Maybe we get on base more and the Houston C's don't have near the arms the Cleveland ones did.

'Son of Didi' hahahahaha. Amazing.
And Sandy goddamned Alomar and his home run that prevented 5 straight titles from being a reality.
Yep and also going back to '97 Sandy Alomar and that cheap homer cost us a shot at 5 straight titles.

Exactly what I'm saying... What a better feeling this is! Love it!!!!

Sloppy doesn't add much, he could go but I love having him there right now for ARod to beat on...The YES guys are good analysts int he post game, but who can listen to them for 30 minutes straight? you fall asleep.

Fans are fans, not going to spend time worrying about what Cleveland fans are saying, NY fans have been similarly absurd after bad losses in different sports over the years
Don't even have to go back years. Just go back and view Friday's Yanks thread...

The analysis is pretty good but you also get that with YES. But the banter is actually pretty funny. YES gets a bit dry and self serious. And I haven't minded Ortiz like I thought I would. Him saying "that's baseball, Suzyn" last night had me laughing.
oh crap he said that? I missed it! what context was it? thats hillarious
ARod and Burkhardt the host lost it laughing. In his broken english too it was great, legitimately funny
