Have never seen him. Going in with no expectations. Anyone else's going? I know he's a shell but perhaps the best ever -- have to do it
Couple of my family members went
Route 9 : 10/11/2017 11:55 pm : link
and they were mild fans always liked his music. They thought he was " trash and one of the worst shows they ever seen"

This was 2007, maybe they saw him at the Borgata or something.
He's not really

a shell but he certainly doesn't sound like his records so don't expect that. I've seen him probably two dozen times since the mid 80's. He is the consummate artist, always playing with arrangements, phrasing, etc so there will be songs you will barely recognize and that won't sound remotely like you think of them. Also, you have to remember if you are going to see his "hits", they were recorded 50 years ago in most cases and NO ONE is the same as they were 50 years ago. If you go looking for a good night of music (his current band is very good) then you will enjoy it but again, "Like a Rolling Stone" isn't going to be even close to the same. Have fun!
when you get to see or hear a legend

it is always worth it. Some people are just that great.
Exactly

He's music royalty and years from now you can tell your grandchildren you saw one of the all time greatest. How cool would it be to be able to say you saw the Beatles?
My brother and sister in law walked
giant24 : 10/12/2017 12:49 am : link
out of his show at Bethel Woods last year. They said he was horrible and you couldn't understand anything he was singing. They go to shows regularly there and this was the first time they ever walked out because the performer was bad.
Past his prime

You have to go, to say you saw him.

I've send him 5+ times over the past 25 years and he is terrible now, but still important to check the box.
Last time I saw him, if you didn't know the song, you wouldn't recognize it by his singing and playing. Stayed to the end out of respect, but it was sad. The backing band is solid.

Go and enjoy knowing you are seeing a legend.
I've seen him twice

first time at a large stadium with the Dead many moons ago. I thought to myself at the time, that maybe he would be better if I saw him in a smaller venue.

I got the chance to see him at our fairly small local amphitheater a few years ago. I knew his voice wasn't what it used to be and it was never great. I prepared myself for the show thinking that I like guys like Howlin' Wolf, Tom Waits, Dr. John, so maybe raspy Dylan could be enjoyable...

The only song most people knew was "Tangled Up in Blue" and most people didn't even recognize it until it was almost over. I figured it out about a minute into the song and said to my wife - most people here don't even know he's playing Tangled Up in Blue. About a minute or 2 later, the crowd caught on and cheered.

I don't regret going, but my wife said it was the worst show she ever saw.

he went from
Dr. D : 10/12/2017 9:39 am : link
being a guy with not the best singing voice, to possibly the worst singing voice ever.

And I'm not sure if he even gives a rats ass if people like his show or not.
I just googled the setlist of the show I saw
Dr. D : 10/12/2017 9:50 am : link
besides Tangled, he did play Simple Twist of Fate. Those would be the only 2 songs most casual fans would know - if they recognized them.

Maybe he'll play more "hits" this tour, but maybe not.
Dylan has always been an acquired taste

that being said while I did see him many moons ago with the Band, I couldn't imagine paying to see him now.
I see the appeal

But I'm not wasting my money to hear a god awful concert just to say I saw him. Hope he's better than expected though, enjoy
Saw him years ago with Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers

I am a Dylan fan, but could barely understand a word coming out of his mouth and it was often hard to tell what song he was singing. At one point, Dylan took a break and TP stepped forward and played some hits. The crowd went wild. Then Bob came back and mumbled through the rest of the show.
my last time

probably 15 years ago and yeah what little voice he had is shot. My wife has gone to a cuple more since, taking one of our sons with her but I think she's gone to her last as well.
There are 2 good things about any Dylan show no matter how old he gets. He has good opening acts and his band, although diffrent each time, is always one of the tightest touring outfits you'll hear.

It just occurred to me how similar this is to a Van Morrison show my wife and I just attended a couple weeks ago. Van has lost a big chunk of his upper register but he's still a great musician and his band rivals Dylan's.
That's funny.

I was just about to comment that Dylan and Van Morrison are both terrible live these days. But the point about having good backing bands is valid. For me, it doesn't make up for them being bad. Morrison doesn't even face the crowd and plays strange versions of his well-known hits. I understand the guy's an artist and is tired of playing "Brown-Eyed Girl" over and over but that song (and a few others) is the reason you live in mansion and people care about you.
Maybe he will play Tweeter and the Monkey Man....

....in honor of Tom Petty.
