I think you are right. Tanaka is much better at home which is strange since it is a smaller park. I just hate starting Gray at the start of the series as he never seems to get far even if pitching well which then taxes the bullpen right away.
Fuck this team, they are a bunch of fucking losers and they always will be. They have proven now, last year and this year, that they are losers and they will never overcome this.
What good are 102 wins, what good is a 22 game winning streak, what good is another Cy Young if the team folds when it matters the most?
The faces and names on the jerseys change, the managers change, but the results stay the same. An organization of losers. Kluber, Lindor, Ramirez, Urshela, Kipnis, Jackson, they’re all losers and nothing will ever change that.
That team had won 102 games and was on fire since the all-star break, and now they're sitting at home, with their fans questioning their will to live. That's after being up in the WS last year.
Just going to sit back and enjoy this run, wherever it takes us.
i understand Cleveland'd frustration - not only 1948, but they are something like 6-20 in game clinching situations going back 20 years now.
But that post was pretty harsh - i highly doubt that's normal. More like a sub-segment of BBI's reaction after a bad Giants loss (or folks who post on gameday threads in general).
Kluber's series was really perplexing though. I hope for his sake he's hurt, because otherwise that is one fucking choke job.
8th inning, figuring it was all with house money. I was hoping Joe would bring in Kahnle for the 8th because Chappy, in my mind, has not been so great in 6 out opportunities. That walk to start the 9th was excruciating, but when he calmed it down and threw a couple subsonic 97 mph FBs for strikes, I figured he was ok.
The ump was loose with the zone, but loose to both sides and that 101 at the top of the top of the zone to end it was magnificent.
section, I felt exactly the same way...very calm up until inning 9, when it finally became clear that we were SO CLOSE to winning the series, then on the edge of my seat until the final out.

I was very nervous throughout, but I wasn't angry at all the few times things didn't go well like the 5th, and I really had the calm feeling that even if we gave up the lead and lost I'd be strangely ok with it because really Cleveland was a great team this year and there'd be no shame losing in 5 tough games. I was really nervous seeing Robbie in the 5th because I though there was no way he could get us to the 8th. I was wrong...
congrats from a Red Sox fan (pains me to say so). Quite an accomplishment, and the starting pitching really showed up in the playoffs after the Severino fiasco in Game 1. The Red Sox look bad by comparison, but it should be a good competition going forward with a lot of good young players for both teams. But the Sox haven't figured out their starting pitching in the playoffs; if they don't do that going forward, they won't be competitive.
im not a fair weather fan. i had given up on baseball entirely Â
I didnt have faith in Cashman rebuilding the team and starting with the prospects.
I am gladly saying that i was wrong and im back to being a fan. The team looks great and even if they dont win the ALCS, they have a real bright future ahead of them.

I was thinking about this last night- other Yankee playoff teams worried me because if they lost, I was afraid they would buy a bunch of high-priced declining vets and go backwards instead of forwards.
This team is not only built for the long haul- but this team is ahead of schedule- they were designed to be ready in 2018 or 2019.
Here's the really fun part: the rebuild isn't done. Sometime in 2018, the Yanks are going to add Miggy Andujar- maybe at 3B, Gleybar Torres- 3B? 2B?, Chance Adams- who is at least a mid-rotation guy, with the possibility of more, Big Red Clint Frazier in the OF and a whole host of power relievers.
The scary part is that if they can get the right mix of vets and young guys, this team could not only be better in 2018- but potentially a LOT better.

What's amazing is with all that was written about the deadline deals Cashman made last year (add the McCann deal to that mix), none of the prospects we got back are contributing to the big club yet - except for a nice little stretch by Clint Frazier this season.
Adam Warren came back in the Chapman trade, but don't consider him a prospect of course.
Point is, the core of this year's squad was already in the system before we sold at the deadline last year. Pretty remarkable.

I think also having the depth from the 2016 trades allowed us to trade Rutherford and Mateo. Only highlights that Cash has been doing a solid job for a while. It wasn't just last year.
RE: Has Syndergaard encountered any Yankees fans Â
Congrats, guys - at least you've got something to be excited about. Life as a Giants/Rangers/Mets/Knicks fan has been absolutely, positively BRUTAL for quite a while now. Feels like all I've been watching for the last 6 months are losses.
Must be nice to have a baseball team that can field a team capable of competing for more than a year at a time. They did a nice job rebuilding.
Lastly.. still with the Syndergaard stuff? I can't believe some of you guys still care about that.. LOL. Just be happy you have a good team and an exciting future.
Terps and Arc, thanks fellas. It was just two years ago I was watching the Mets run thinking to myself how much I missed that for the Yankees, and a bit envious of how great the crowd was and how exciting your team's play was.
Things can turn around quick. No reason why your team can't be right back in this position again soon.
And the Rangers will get it turned around, even as the coach continues to really test my patience.
It will be interesting to see how this moment ages... IMHO the bottom of the 9th would have been much different if we only had a 1 run lead. link - ( New Window )
Curious that he dropped strike three at the end of the game yet he never tagged the batter. Did anyone else notice that?
About half dozen of us..curious because Jackson stood there arguing and Sanchez picked up the ball and walked toward Chapman The umpire even turned and walked away..Frazier was yelling to tag him. I know once he leaves the batting area he gives up the right to advance. Maybe there is a "time" limit too - either go immediately or you forfeit your ability to go??
I was wondering about that too. Why didn't Gary just tag him to be sure? Seemed odd, but nobody seemed to make anything of it, so I guess Gary knew what he was doing.

We have a core four now, with Sanchez, Didi, Judge, and Severino. This team reminds me of the 1996 team that no one gave a chance to against the Braves. That team went down 0-2 too and came back and swept the Braves to start off the dynasty. I believe the Yanks have the makings of another dynasty!
I would go Gray, Cici, Severino and Tanaka. I think you can go with Cici because he only pitched 4 and 3rds innings. He should be ready and should be expected to give you a similar 5 innings of solid pitching. That's all we need. And I think you want Severino taking the ball for game 7.
I was wondering about that too. Why didn't Gary just tag him to be sure? Seemed odd, but nobody seemed to make anything of it, so I guess Gary knew what he was doing.

If Gray can steal a W, great. If not, you just used him against Kuechel. Better than possibly wasting a quality start by another guy
I have always had that philosophy. Pitching your ace against the opponents can be futile. I'm not saying you should concede the game to the opponent. However, having your ace against the 2nd best pitcher is an advantage.

Funny thing is the last camera shot he is still standing the the batters box squawking at the ump and had not left the dirt circle area...moot point.

His at bat and hustle in the 9th last night was right up there with Gardner's grit.
Sevy came up with a gem when he pitched in the ALDS after that horrid start in the wild card game. A very veteran-like performance.
