NFT: Knicks Chat: THjr high on Dotson

DanMetroMan : 10/12/2017 11:09 am
Tim Hardaway Jr. is guarded by Knicks rookie Damyean Dotson every day in practice. He's been impressed so far: "He's a football player," Hardaway Jr. said with a smile. ".... He's going to give you his all every single possession, strong, athletic, doesn't take anything from nobody…. It's tough scoring against him. He's kind of an aggravating defender. He gets his hands into the passing lanes, deflects the basketballs, really gets up into you when you have the ball in your hand and forces you to do things on his terms." Hardaway Jr. agreed when a reporter asked if Dotson reminded him of Iman Shumpert. The both have "grittiness, that desire to play defense and be good at it," he said. Said Dotson: "It's both ways, making Tim better and making me better at the same time… Every time I run up and down the court, I learn something new."

a Shumpert who can shoot would be a good player

is/was a mid-late 1st round talent that almost certainly fell due to the allegations.
I just hope he can find minutes.
Enzo : 10/12/2017 11:21 am : link
Cut Beasley, bench Lance, and give Lee/Doug the minutes at 3 so this guy can play backup 2. He's sorta old for a rookie but wings who can shoot and play D have a lot of value.
I have to admit

The Knicks have done a great job drafting the last few years it's just unfortunate that they traded away so many picks. Dotson isn't going to be a star but he could develop into a very solid rotational piece.

"plus" side is they should have a high 1st, a high second (from the Bulls), and hopefully the Clippers disappoint. Sucks not having our own #2 however ugh.

"great job"? That's a stretch.
Is Porzingis really a guy they can build around?
gmenatlarge : 10/12/2017 11:34 am : link
He has already had foot issues (the bane of all big men) and now his hip is bothering him. I can't help but feel that while a good player he will be an oft-injured player who ultimately frustrates fans.

has a system in which they "score" players (projections) for the season. They give KP a 7.56 which lands him between high end starter/all-star candidates.

After that is where things get sad... THjr 4.75 (#2 player on the team), high end backup/low end starter

#3 Courtney Lee (4.50)

Just seems like a lot of time missed for something they have been downplaying given the fact he had a sore knee back in June as well.

Jeff Hornacek doesn't seem optimistic about Frank Ntilikina and Kristaps Porzingis playing tomorrow.

a podcast with Begley. I haven't listened yet, but Begley is pretty decent in these spots. Much more tolerable than Isola...and more informed than Berman.

heard some horror stories about Phil in presentation situations with players – unprepared, just disorganized. And sometimes, he’d have Steve Mills in there, who’d try to re-direct him. But I know of a couple players who walked out of meetings in a couple different free-agent scenarios and, “Wow, that was Phil Jackson? That’s not how I imagined he’d be.”

a great fit roster wise but lets pull the trigger on the Lee/Okafor swap!

“I’m unsure if I’m still on the team,” said Okafor, who recently started a vegan diet. “Am I really a part of this process? Am I really a part of this culture? That’s why the guys have been out there on social media, but I’ve just kind of been in the dark. I’ll go to a Sixers event, smile, take pictures with the kids and stuff like that, but I’m still thinking, ‘Am I a part of this team?’”

He already knows the answer — and he wants out of Philadelphia.

“Sometimes I do think it would be great to get a fresh start, be on a new team, new surroundings, new teammates. I think about that often and I think that’s something that could benefit me,” he said.
i wouldnt mind taking a chance
nygiants16 : 10/12/2017 4:42 pm : link
but you would really have to move kanter if you traded for okafor...

i dont see him getting minutes if kanter and willy still here, sounds like kanter will be the starter

I was mostly kidding but if they really want to give him away I wouldn't mind rolling the dice (especially because moving Lee makes sense anyway).

the current state rhe knicks are in they have to look at talent and worry about fit later
Basicallyy
DanMetroMan : 10/12/2017 4:56 pm : link
my thought process as well. If you can get young talent on the cheap you almost have to do it and worry about fit later. Not a particularly big Okafor believer/fan but when situations like this pop up I would like to be involved.
