Here we go ladies. Huge game this afternoon. Absolutely huge. Win and it's all tied up. Lose and the Yankees are playing the elimination game.
Great call by Mr. Shock with the Romine insertion. He'll be behind the dish for Gray and Sanchez will DH. I like it. Here's the pitching matchup - no lineup out for Houston yet - but it's time to get it the fuck on.
2.) we haven't had any DH production anyway
3.) Sonny throws in the dirt a ton
No excuses. This team can take down the Astros. Let’s get it on boys. In Sonny (and B) we trust!
no day off in the Bronx today - ( New Window )
Going back to Houston all tied up.
Going back to Houston all tied up.
That's not possible.
And while it might be nice to give Sanchez a break in July, they just had an off day in a playoff series. And what if Romine gets hurt? Then Sanchez has to go in and they lose the DH. Don't like this.

Thank was great!
"His slider is actually his primary pitch now. He throws the low-80s slider nearly 40 percent of the time. He’s cut down significantly on his four-seam fastball usage (52.6 to 27.2 percent) and utilized his sinker more (24 percent). He’ll occasionally use his curveball and changeup, but he’s basically a fastball-slider pitcher.
Thanks to the slider, he’s become a significant strikeout pitcher. He was eighth among pitchers with at least 100 innings in strikeout rate with a 29.5 percent mark. The guy ahead of him? Clayton Kershaw. The guy behind him? Luis Severino."
Brad Peacock may be Astros’ secret weapon in Game Four - ( New Window )
First 15 starts (healthy): 2.69 ERA (2.72 FIP), 29.1 K%, 7.1 BB%, 63.9 GB%
Last 7 starts (dealing with back trouble): 8.53 ERA (4.41 FIP), 18.4 K%, 9.5 BB%, 56.1 GB%
Let's hope that back is acting up
That means the Yanks should be into their Houston bullpen by the 5th inning at the latest.

Oh shit. I forget the WS is 2-3-2. What a dope. I've only watched it for 200 years. Slow learner.

Should be LCS AND WS

In the off-chance that Romine gets hurt, Girardi will use the likes of Headley, Ellsbury, and Holliday as pinch-hitters and treat it like a National League game. The odds that Romine gets hurt, and gets hurt early such that the 9-hole batter has to be occupied by a pitcher for multiple attempts is very low.

Lose the DH? Lulz. Who would notice? We could put Chapman up there to hit and he wouldn't perform any worse than our DHs have this postseason
Need Gray to get 6 and not be a batting practice..time for him to show up better
Yes sir. I'm on the road in Philly and my hotel doesn't get FS1 apparently so I had to head to the bar. Gonna be a long night
pretty painful to watch
pretty dp
BUMBLEBEETUNA?
Why did you type this when it didn't even happen?
What the fuck judge?
Yeah, I think so. Pretty smart move on the Yankees part since I'm sure someone told him to try it.

Girardi told him to go..smart
lmfao..true
Haha. What a complete shit show that explanation had to be. Two mental patients trying to explain astrophysics.

Because you know John and Susan had no fucking clue what was going on there.

Hehehe no doubt
And his third time through the lineup. Gotta imagine there will be a quick hook if he runs into trouble.
I was saying earlier, Sanchez has even looked better this postseason behind the plate. He's fine and his gun of an arm adds a ton of value to his defense.
I agree. Yeah, he walked Springer but was 2-2 to Reddick when Romine committed his blunder.
One mistake that forks us.
Stupid walks. Beating themselves again.
Robertson doesn't use his fastball enough anymore
Stupid walks. Beating themselves again.
Only 1 hit in the inning and they score 3. Can’t win playoff games that way
Robertson doesn't use his fastball enough anymore
The Astros are the best fastball hitting team in baseball
Giradi can't win. If he leaves him in and gives up a 2 run double he's blasted for leaving him

He gave up one hit in five innings

From a Met fan no less. When did Met fans start posting in Yankee playoff threads?
Lol. And two straight walks to lead off an inning

Girardis made plenty of moves worth questioning, but that isn’t one of them. He went with his best guy, Robertson’s been great. They just got one big hit

Robertson throws one bad pitch and 3-0.
Huh?
Or a defensive ace. Romine is neither. Hes like sending the pitcher up and is nothing special defensively.

Ignore your initial biases on the trade and assess his actual performance. He was fantastic
lmfao
me me me me I will!!
101
3 errors tonight. Insane.
You literally have never had a take on any sports topic that's been correct. Never. Not once.
We have guys who will learn and a team with guts and calm.

I don't like Gray because he takes for ever to throw. He wastes far too many pitches, seems always behind in the count and you look up in the 5th inning and he has thrown 80 or 90 pitches. His waste pitches are nowhere near the strike zone so batters know they aren't strikes, there is little enticement to swing at a pitch a foot outside.
He pitched a very good game up until the 6th but you just cannot walk the leadoff guy with Altuve and Correa coming up.
The Astros pitching approach has been the same as the Indians...seems like about 80% breaking balls, and they’ve been giving our offense fits.
We were good enough to get past Cleveland still, but may not be against Houston.
Getting pissed off about our offensive approach at this point of the season seems a bit of a fools errand - we’re playing against one of the 2 best teams in baseball and getting exposed. Hard to expect the Yanks to suddenly turn into a 98 Yankees type offense (.364 team OBP) all of a sudden in the ALCS.
In the end, it’s up to Cashman to find one or two more guys to put this team over the top (2B and/or 3B), but that’s for the offseason, not going to help us now.
We have guys who will learn and a team with guts and calm.
Yep, hopefully Torres is up for the challenge of batting second, with Judge, Sanchez and Bird behind him.
Judge!!!
Robertson also walked the next batter and gave up the penultimate double to some fat guy.
And let's not forget the bats have been watery shit.
All rise.
Nice to see the big fella go that way!!! Let’s go!
His defense let him down.
A big difference in this series has been base running. The Yankees have been thrown out at home on what should have been an easy score if Bird took a proper-sized lead. Gardner was thrown out at third for the third out of an inning, though it took one of the beset relays you'll ever see to get him. Didi was picked off first, and Judge got tagged up.
Meanwhile, we couldn't even get an easy relay home to get Altuve in Game 2 because Sanchez couldn't field a hop.
2nd of the night, Castro with the brain fart game people were worried about...
Even a walk, but we all know that’s asking a lot from Starlin...
Haha yup.
He's not smart.
At this point I'm convinced that this is an act
Cue PhiPsi.
Gurriel isn't a scrub. He's the kind of hitter the Yanks had at the bottom of their order in the dynasty years
Musgrove I agree on

keep sticking with your Bill James approach to the playoffs see where it gets you and Joe. Every batter in that inning except Didi was swinging for the fences. Castro should have been taking a strike. That ab let Musgrove off the hook.
Keep scratching your ass moron, oh wait, that's not your ass, looks like one though. You keep wondering what it takes, just like Joe.
(Trust me, the power of positive thinking can overcome anything.)
keep coming back at me with the bunting shit. When my argument is that it's their entire all or nothing approach that has them in this offensive hole. It's a shame because this is the best pitching staff they've had in a generation. As I type this Headley swings for the fences.
sweet

HHahaha I think he meant runner
easier to hit?
took out dh, need pinch hitters in case of extras
Gary
Gary
this
Amen, after all our angst, one time through the order with a great approach from everyone. They finally stopped swinging from their heels against breaking balls
in the 90's I used to sit under my desk watching an old b&w tv. Stay on that couch!
I imagine so.
i think they showed the graphic for that earlier, not sure if its 100% set though

The next few years is going to be fun..
Let's go assholes!!
Judge and Sanchez starting to hit.
Control your anger and wait for your shipment of magic eyedrops.
Give that man a box to stand on when he's interviewing Judge.
2009 World Series, has to be
What an awesome game...I know I, at least, continue to underestimate the guts this team has. At their best when it counts the most
Great thread again boys!
Hate to say it, but I'm leaning that way, too. Cashman said Torres won't be up out of spring training, so don't know who plays 2nd base.
Judge and Sanchez starting to hit.
They were good. Then they got to October. It's a joy to see our kids thriving under the pressure.
Game 5 next.
Man, and I thought the football gamethreads were bad. Sheesh!
Please, please, PLEASE beat Keuchel. So sick of that guy.
Very impressive- using the whole field- sitting on curve balls early in the count.
If they apply that tomorrow, I see them scoring some runs.
also - that appeared to be a hit-and-run on Gary's double, with Did running from first - if that was Girardi's call, it was a good one.
Quote:
Credit where due - pinch hitting Headley worked like a charm, he came through (barely avoiding a major screw up when he fell down going to second, but still)

Yup great point
Thanks!!

You're on a streak. Going for the trifecta?
I bet they loved it! Hehehehe
Without internet access, hopefully?
That said...
If the Yankees can steal a win against either one of them, I like their chances in a Game 7.

B to close this out, ill see the next two games then I'm outta state for 3 weeks

lol you silly goose! Only if it's games 5-7 of the WS I would not have internet access, however I might have access to the game lol go figure
Agreed, they really seem to love and really get emotional about this thumbs down gig..
Reminds me of #Allin Giants 2011 on roids

Just huge fricken stones on them. I just might have to make the 2 hour trek to the Bronx tomorrow and cheer them on against the bearded douche

And I will be the first to admit I was not a fan of bringing Frazier and his .207 batting average here. Man was I wrong. "Thumbs down"
You are on a roll. Denny is in the on deck circle. I'd stay the course, but that is one vote. Just cannot have RP start it..;->
You know what reminds me the most of Jeter: How his individual futility never shows up on his face and therefore never affects the team. You cannot tell if this guy is on a streak of 10 hrs in 10 games or has struck out 20 times in the playoffs. All he cares about is winning. He and Didi carry that same attitude and it fosters that never say die attitude that Jeter had. How can Sanchez get down on himself when he sees Judge constantly moving forward. That's true leadership.
You end up with the Astros, and how they have no holes in their lineup, so the bullpen is going to be front and center early and often. Instead - the starting pitching has been phenomenal.
I very much agree with the overall tone of your text but find it somewhat ironic that you note that he can run and has a very high baseball IQ after last nights game
They have critics complaining about Judge's K's, Sanchez's D and Joe's use of challenges or bullpen selection. And each time Judge gets a ball at his ankles called a strike or a ball 4 inches off the plate, he trudges back to the dugout without saying a word. When Sanchez has a passed ball, the guys in the booth rip him, but he shrugs it off (and I won't even mention that Romine had the only ever catcher's interference and it cost them a lead).
This team doesn't get down - they just band together. When they blow a lead at cleveland and are on the brink of elimination - they win. And they do it without being the hated team Yankees of the past were.
I'm thoroughly enjoying them, especially Frazier. Guy just looks like he enjoys the moment. Tough to tell because we're constantly looking at shots of Altuve, but hey - that's OK.
Like I sad, I agree just found it ironic
But this group continues to overcome the doubts. This could be something special.
Get close to winning the division - miss by a couple of games, and people are pissed that some blown saves cost them the division.
Get into the playoffs - and we'll be happy to do well against Cleveland. Go down 0-2 after a managerial brain fart, and people want Girardi dead. All anyone wants at this point is to see some fight.
Team roars back from 0-2, and it's house money. Houston's a tough customer, but we're all just glad to be here, right? No chance given against Keuchel, why aren't we trotting Sonny Gray out there. The Yankees play two close games, and people are pissed that the bats go silent and that two possibly winnable games are lost.
It's not just us, it's fan psychology. We lose track of how hard it is to win sometimes.
This is true. More pressure on the Astros' starters to be great because they know how shaky their pen is.
Old people with a computer should be outlawed
Likewise if your approach is to take the ball the other way you stay on the breaking ball a lot longer and square it up more often. The pitchers will adjust by coming inside more and you know what happens to mistakes made on the inside part of the plate. Judge, Didi and Sanchez lose them for you.
Starting with the sac fly, it looks like he began to anticipate the sequence. The fastball he hit the double on was a bit low and over the plate, but it came after two low curves just like all series.
I'm sure they will change up thier approach to him now, but the youngsters are starting to key in on Houston's pitching.
All this time I was blaming you. I'll rethink.
The smart money might just be on the Yanks.
Judge has an OBP of 333 in the postseason. Not great but not god awful and is 2nd in RBIs with 9. Not bad for a guy that many have labeled as lost at the plate. 9 rbis is 9 rbis no matter how you slice it. LAst night's HR was huge. The RBI double even bigger.
Judge has shown me so much in this postseason. First time ever in the playoffs facing the best pitching in the world and he's shown an ability to adjust on the fly. Not easy to do. He's a legend in the making in my opinion.
Love baseball too! What a turnaround!. Judge goes from invisible K machine to completely taking over the series with his bat AND his glove in 2 days. Sanchez goes from zero to hero and finishes the game behind the plate.
44.2 IP, 166 total batters faced. And he has given up 0 HRs. .188/.218/.234 split
It seems that since Joe mentioned the poor umping on Judge, that he has gotten better calls on the low pitches in this homestand. If that continues, hopefully he fares better against Keuchel.
If I'm Girardi and Cockrell, I'm telling this team that they have nothing to lose by changing their approach with Keuchel and to focus on those low pitches and look to take every pitch the other way.
I'm betting Headley. He started hitting the ball harder the previous few games and delivered last night.
Styles make fights and Keuchel is a bad matchup for us. The Yanks were 8th in fly-ball percentage and 24th in ground ball percentage He is one of the best at not giving up HRs and led the league in ground ball percentage.
While I'd like to say it's an easy fix of just strategy, hitters for the most part are who they are. They make adjustments, but they don't just suddenly become a different type of hitter.
