1. Jacksonville Jaguars acquire quarterback Eli Manning from the New York Giants for 2018 first- and fourth-round picks The case against such a trade is easy to make, but if Giants ownership decided a franchise reset were needed following a 1-6 start, and if Manning wanted no part of a rebuild at this stage of his career, all parties could come out ahead on paper, at least. The Jaguars, with former Giants coach Tom Coughlin as lead football decision maker, could justify the deal by saying Manning is the final variable in their championship equation. Manning, though reluctant to leave the Giants, could increase his chances for earning a third Super Bowl ring by winning big with a second organization, which would also enhance his Hall of Fame credentials. Coughlin's Hall credentials would also improve if he suddenly got the Jaguars over the top. The Giants could use their own first-round pick to target Manning's successor while adding draft capital for a rebuild. Manning has a no-trade clause in his contract, meaning he would have to give written permission for any deal. The price would be whatever it takes to get a deal done -- not necessarily what I've suggested. |
Love Eli but the Giants would be fools not to make that trade.
Unless he ASKS out, he's retiring a Giant.
Unless he ASKS out, he's retiring a Giant.
Did you miss this part?
They don't have the cap space to trade him without reworking his deal. He's due 19.7 million this year. Why would he restructure anything?
there's obviously a chance he says no - and he's said he wants to be a NYG for life, but also a chance he says yes if a deal to a contender can be reached, so in fact as unlikely as a trade involving Eli might be:
"no trade clause, end of story" is ignorant of how no trade clauses work.
Would make sense for the Jags.
It would also make sense for Giants if in position to draft potential successor to Eli and let him sit behin le Eli for a bit.
Even though this is a tough year, this is a great organization to play for and there is a great history and tradition of playing for the Giants. They are a pretty classy organization as well, just like Eli is all class.
I'd also be stunned if anyone was willing to trade a #1 and a #4 for Eli. He's 37, and completely immobile. The NFL wants mobile QBs who can scramble and make "off schedule" plays, especially given the decline in OL quality. That isn't Eli.

But why would the Jags do that deal? They are not one player away, and Eli's window is closing quickly. They have a young and improving team and should be keeping their eye on the longer term, not overpaying for temporary fixes.

+1
Unless he ASKS out, he's retiring a Giant.
He clearly states that and a no trade just means he has to say yes. Will it happen? No, but it isn't impossible!

haha... nice Dumb and Dumber reference :)
Because if we get an extra 1st we could get Saquon Barkley AND maybe a QB (Jackson, Allen, Mayfield) or an OL (McGlichley, Nelson) or maybe even a FS (Minkah Fitzpatrick). School. Maybe we trade down either the 2nd 1st ang get more picks!
That's why as it's been said on the thread that if a team is willing to give you a 1st/4th for him, you take it and don't ask questions.
If you are actually going to rebuild this back up a bit, and starting out you have 3 selections in the top 35 to 40 in the 2018 draft, that is a very good place to begin.
Seems like a win-win.
2nd and 4th is much more realistic.
LOL :)
Seems like a win-win.
GIANTS won't trade Eli and Bills won't trade Glenn.
Never gonna happen.
That's a joke.
All time great Giant, but moving his salary would do a lot for this rebuilding team.
First response in this thread that makes any sense. Reese will be washing Eli's jock strap by hand before he wears any other jersey but the Giants. You people are all morons.
But I know calling everyone a moron makes more sense.
I agree in principle, but I can see valid reasons for making the case by Jacksonville.
They have a great defence and running game and are in strong contention for a play off shot. They are not sold on Bortles, I can see how they could make a case for adding an experienced, proven veteran leader like Eli to what is otherwise a young team.
It would increase their chances of getting into the playoffs plus the change of making waves should they get there. The Jags actually have the ground game and defence that Eli ideally needs around him.
It has been a really long time since their last playoff appearance. I can see a case for maximising their chances.
Having said all that, it has to be a move that Eli wants to do and he has made no indication that it is something he wants to do.
In a second. And Denver is in even more desperate need of a QB than Jacksonville.
