Josh Gordon admits to using drugs before each NFL game

kelsto811 : 11/6/2017 11:43 pm
Not really a shocker but the article was an interesting read. Says other guys smoke before the game, curious how common that could be...

Also being so open, I do wonder if he actually turned a corner mentally

Quote:
"Football is not who I am. It's what I do. And for me, everything that you may see or read, it's all through one lens, it's one perception. And unfortunately, living in a world where you're in the public eye, perception is their reality. But for me, my reality is entirely different. It's being a father now to a two-year-old daughter. It's being a good friend, a teammate, a son, a brother. The normal things are what I'm prioritizing now," he finished.

That said, hard to believe he could be in NFL shape. He was very talented. Only 26 years old.

All Giants fans should consider following Josh Gordon's example before, during and after watching the remaining eight games this season.
Sounds like L.T.

No 'safe amount' of substance can numb the pain of the next 8 football weeks.
Only thing is to numb the intensity for your interest in wins. Acceptance of loses for me is tempered by the offset: getting a better than or solidifying our current #3 pick position in the draft...and since a loss to SF is quite possible, then #2 pick.
In his defense, he was playing for the Browns.

It would be a surprise if had not used drugs everyday before showing up at work.

about the Giants on Sunday. The entire team must have been passing the Dutchie on the left hand-side before the game.

Good thing he wasn't using an addictive substance

I used to a lot. Part of the reason why I go to meetings 3 times a week.
Seems like it didn't affect
Metnut : 11/7/2017 9:24 am : link
his performance on the field. He was dominating when he played and better than all but a few other WRs. It got him into trouble with NFL testing and suspensions but didn't appear to affect his on the field effort.

I'm rooting for this kid. Turn around stories are the best.
On a serious note

How many times do you hear about guys getting so worked up before a game that they throw up? I wonder if this wasn't a way for him - and possibly other players - to try and regulate that.

Not trying to make excuses for him, and not suggesting that is what it was, just wondering why you would do it before a game rather than afterwards.

He did also mention he was hooked on Xanax and was taking that constantly (before games IIRC).

Pretty surprising, as Xanax is not a drug I'd expect a player to take before a game (or even want to take before a game). I cannot fathom going to the gym on bars, let alone playing an NFL game.

The crazy thing is that he was given a Xanax in SEVENTH grade and got hooked then. He's 26 now, so you're looking at 04/05... Prescription rx abuse is a scourge around the whole country.

Yeah, me neither. Going to work while high or buzzed sounds absolutely un-fun to me.
but
santacruzom : 11/7/2017 12:19 pm : link
playing football buzzed or high in front of tens of thousands of people would definitely be a trip.

I could drink or smoke before work if I wanted to - I don't have anyone to report to and can work wherever I want. I still wouldn't do it. There's literally no appeal. I'd just be less productive and want to do anything besides work.

Anyway, it sounds like Gordon is in a better place mentally now and has grown up a bit. He'll have to prove it, but I'll be rooting for him to be an impact player in this league again free of substance-abuse.
I wait until Lunchtime (usually)

He was reinstated on a "conditional basis". Cleveland is clearly not the place for him though reading that article. The things people did to him was despicable
