How does Tuna get credit for him he was on the Giants staff before Tuna and remained there until Tuna took some time managing guy and recommended him to be the next Giants coach after Belichick left for Cleveland. You want to give him credit for Belichick during those days the Giants were all about defense nice if the offense showed up something Belichick is know for. Tuna was and will always be overrated and a born liar day in day out.

Tuna had success on his own turning around the Patriots and Jets and to a lesser extent the Cowboys. Like him or not, he knew how to coach.
Where does this stupid nonsense come from? George Young had zero use for Bill Belichick and much less use for Bill Parcells. George Young hand picked Ray Handley and told Bill Belichick before he left for Cleveland that he would not be considered for the Giants head coach. Any Giants fan that doesn't understand what Bill Parcells did for the Giants in the 80's is totally clueless.

Thank you. GY had his heart set on Handley. He didn't think Belichick would be a successful HC.

I think Parcells was a great coach in his own right - but with two of the three teams you mentioned there he had Belichick by his side.
Young and Parcells didn't get along, that much was established fact. I wonder about Belichick - the rumor was Belichick was running around with one of the secretaries inside of Giants HQ and had run afoul of Wellington. I know we hear that Young said that Belichick didn't have the personal makeup to be a HC, but I wonder whether he was blacklisted internally by Mara.
I can't say I know what the demand for Belichick was in 1996
But he took a position coach job (DB coach, although with an associate head coach title as well) with Parcells and the Patriots, which does suggest that he wasn't offered a DC position.
Just a reminder that once a Giant, always a Giant.
I'm sure when George S. Patton Jr. and Douglas MacArthur shoot the shit in the big West Point in the sky, it's similar.....

See Lombardi and Tom Landry years before them
