NFT: Today's Yankees update

Beer Man : 11/8/2017 12:17 pm
1. Glove glove winner were announced today. No Yankees were selected (Judge & Gardner were finalist).

2. Interviews have started for the Manager role. Rob Thomson (Yankees current Bench coach) is the first candidate to sit down with Cashman.
I always wonder why.....

there are Yankee updates right after the season ends but the baseball offseason goes so fast. We will be turning the clocks ahead and eyeing opening day before you know it.
Gardner was robbed!

Alex Gordon won it on reputation - Gardner's numbers were better than his.

Granted, there's reason to take fielding metrics with a grain of salt, but Gardner was terrific.
Judge is the best OF

on this team. Range. Smarts. Rocket of an arm.
Yea Gardy absolutely got robbed

I know we are biased, but I think we are all pretty fair here when it comes to evaluating league talent. I dare you to find a better all around LF in baseball let alone the AL...
Judge was up against tougher competition, though

Mookie Betts is a legitimately great RF.
The Yankees

outfield is tremendous defensively. Hicks is a superb center fielder. Judge is good (but perhaps a tad overrated by the surprise at what he can do at his size), and Gardner is excellent as well.

No shame in losing to Betts, Buxton, or Gordon. All three of them are excellent.
The Yanks will be running

a transparent process -- all their interviewees will be announced.
Gardner didn't win?

He is 3rd behind, Hicks #1 and Gardy #2. Hicks has better range and the better arm. Gardy has better range and a more accurate arm. Still a damn good fielder.
First candidates

interviewed are either the prime or among the least wanted candidates.
Which one is Thomson?
In other news ....

The Yankees did not give qualifying offers to CC, Holliday, & Pineda

Thompson is getting a courtesy interview for being with the organization for 30 years. I'm 35 years old, I have his autograph on his profile page in an Albany Colonie Yankees program from like, 1992.
Heard this morning that both Cone and Flaherty expressed interest
jcn56 : 11/9/2017 9:23 am : link
in the job - but the story didn't mention whether there was any interest on Cashman's part.

Cone would be interesting - isn't he big on analytics?
he is
Greg from LI : 11/9/2017 9:25 am : link
I can't see Cone as a manager though. Pitching coach, though, would be a different story. Pitching coaches have the latitude to be goofballs.
See, that's where this model of GM heavy management
jcn56 : 11/9/2017 9:27 am : link
throws me. If you're the manager - but the GM is making all the calls, how often do you really have to be the heavy down there?
on the other hand
Greg from LI : 11/9/2017 9:40 am : link
If the baseball decisions are being driven by the front office (and I'm not sure how much I believe that anyway), then doesn't the manager's primary responsibility become running the clubhouse?
Next year

Hicks will be a finalist too.
Aaron Boone reportedly a candidate for manager
Dave in PA : 11/9/2017 10:34 pm : link
Not sure how he’s qualified other than being a baseball lifer.
Pretty wild candidates list.
bceagle05 : 11/9/2017 10:45 pm : link
Flaherty, Coney, Boone, Hairston, etc. Wouldn't have guessed any of them if you'd asked me a month ago.
